I'm looking forward to this Dillashaw-Cruz fight. Dillashaw hasn't convinced me yet.

Dillashaw hasn't convinced you? He dominated Barao who was arguably the best p2p fighter in world for 2 fights. Well fight and a half. I think he's pretty awesome, and while Cruz is good, I think it'll be a good fight.

McGregor v Dos Anjos and Holm v Tate are gonna be 2 amazing fights. UFC 197 is gonna be awesome...

Barão was overrated and was fighting in the wrong weight class. He had no stamina in those fights because the weight cuts for him were brutal. Cruz is a natural in the division, so I think it'll give me a better idea of how good Dillashaw is.

I can't say I'm surprised. Whoever the judge was that had 49-46 Dillashaw is nuts.

i was surprised they gave it to cruz. i didn't think he landed enough to win. i thought it was close, but would have given it to dillashaw. they score it round by round. i may have given cruz a couple rounds, but they all were close. i don't think he won 3 out of 5 rounds.

Which rounds did you have for Dillashaw? 4 and 5? For Cruz, I had 2 and 3. 1 was too close to call.

Dillashaw was only able to land leg kicks.

Cruz is only going to get better.

ya. i guess i would have said 1, 4 and 5 to tj, although i didn't make notes of the individual rounds as the fight progressed. i'm relatively new to watching so sometimes i forget to score each round instead of looking cumulatively at the end. if you do that, i think it's easier to give it to tj.

yes, he was only landing leg kicks, especially toward the end, but what did cruz really land? i don't remember him hitting tj more or harder than tj hit him.

He out struck TJ actually. He landed some nice combos and counters. I would agree that TJ's shots were harder. Cruz also took down Dillashaw a few times.

I scored it 48-47 for Dillashaw. Round 1 was the closest and I gave it to TJ but I'm not upset or shocked Cruz got decision. I am shocked that 1 judge had it 4-1 for TJ and another had it 4-1 for Cruz. These judges have to be taught better or explain why because it's impossible for 1 guy to see Cruz win 4 rounds and another see TJ win 4. Just weird. I hope Cruz heals well and they rematch because it will be another battle.

What do you guys think is more impressive from the fight or scored "points": Cruz taking TJ down twice in one of the rounds OR TJ getting up so quickly from take downs? I'd personally think it was more impressive scoring wise for TJ to get out of take down, because even tho Cruz took him down, he didn't get a chance to do anything. Thoughts?

i think you're right about cruz not doing anything with the take downs. for me, a takedown is notable, but it has to be worth the effort to make a difference in the score. if you let your opponent out right away, what's the point?

this was the first time i'd seen either of these guy fight so i'm just going on this one fight, but the commentators said tj had never been taken down before so maybe that held some weight with the judges.

Never really like when a champion loses his belt by decision unless it's completely one sided. If it's close it should just always go to the champ imo.

agreed. I give the champ benefit of the doubt. I could imagine the fight being called a "Draw" as 1st round was so close, in which case it would be 48-48.

Try to find Dillashaw vs Barao fights. He is extremely technical and a very good fighter, those fights put him on the map.

Being taken down scores points, BUT when the defender gets up so quickly I think it negates the takedown. Also, when guys take someone down, but just lay on top and don't do any damage, while they are in an "advantageous position" Im not sure if that warrants getting points for the guy who is in dominant position. UNLESS the judges look for that stuff, in which case both fighters know, so that's on them to defend OR work harder knowing they were taken down and losing in points.

Another thing I saw in boxing a few years back was they announced scores of rounds after every round. So the trainers/fans/fighters knew who was leading in scoreboard throughout the fight. I think that would be beneficial to fighters in say round 3 knowing they will lose a decision, thus making them fight for the win, rather than coast thinking they could win a decision. Might make later rounds more exciting and give chance for a guy who is losing to go for the win, rather than coast thinking he's winning and then lose because of scoreboard. Just an idea...
