To me this is probably the most important offseason to date for SAS.

    1. Sale needs to be decided
    2. FO needs to be changed? Will it and how soon
    3. Player movement who to bring back and whos gone?
    4. Reach out to fan base/community. This year has been a disaster to where I question if I want to renew my season tickets. ( I will but for the first time have questioned it) and its not even theW/L on the field that has me turned off. From the lack of a preseason (when the rest of NASL are taking trips; SAS sat home) , roster decisions, announcing fees for parking (then reversed for season ticket holders), cutting the acadamy in the manner they have.
    5. New Coach? Do you replace a coach 1 year after winning the championship? When I think a lot of the problems are driven by the FO?

1 - well yeah .... whatever the future of this club is going to be, it needs to be figured out NOW
2 - yeah, I'm really not enjoying what's coming from the top down ....
3 - I think we've got a very good core of players ... outside of trimming a little fat, I actually feel we need to stay closely to the same roster we have now. That's something that has yet to happen here.
4 - Apparently the LD ball trick is working as ST sales are up pretty nicely ... there does though, seem to be a very drawn back approach from the club compared to the first 18 months of existence.
5 - I like Marcina and feel it would be wrong to shuffle him out given the very clear issues NOT his fault

Well #5 happened today. Sad to see coach Marcina go since I think the fault belongs one level up with the GM.

Yeeeeaaahhh the issues seem to be sitting in the FO, not on the field.

One thing that I thought was odd from Mr. Cornfield, was his comment about this is not the end of the Scorpions. And what he really means by that? It just seems odd to say that when that was never a thought that the Scorpions would end.

I saw that quote about we're not going anywhere and thought it was odd too.

I am not sure I believe the issues are with the FO. With the interview Cornfield gave last night, he made it seem like Marcina was in control of personnel decisions. For me, that shows that the late signings, bad signings, and team cohesiveness was all due to the coaching. If Cornfield is telling the truth and he allows the coaches to take charge of the decisions, that is exactly what I would like out of a President. Now, can he do better with the media and how he fired Marcina, yes, but I am thinking that the signing of Billy tells A LOT about how some players feel about the FO.

    Cornfield is the GM, right?

Well, hopefully the ownership of the Spurs will rectify that situation forthwith. Firing someone in public is low.

I'm curious how the fans of the team feel about these developments. Does new ownership matter? Do you care if the team moves to USL?

The fans I know have mixed feelings. Hate to see the Scorpions fold (which seems to be the latest word). For me personally being a season ticket holder since day one, it sucks as I wanted to be one of those guys that was with the team from the start.. Never thought it would be over this quick.

I think ownership does matter, I love Mr. Hartman for bringing the Scorpions to SA, but long term his model would probably not be good for the team. The Scorpions seem to have always turned over the team after each year, part of that is keeping the budget low. Is it the lowest, no, but for what the team was getting, it should of been better. This year with the sale announced, you could see the scale down from cutting the academy, to charging for parking (which they had never done at Hero's) to . The goal is to reach the top flight soccer league (which at this point is MLS) with Mr. Hartman that was never going to happen.

Some of the things greenroom mentioned are documented here:

    http://www.examiner.com/article/sources-reveal-problems-inside-scorpions

Fans of the team having mixed feelings is certainly understandable. One has to assume that the team and the facility were hemorrhaging money, and Hartman wanted out. Hard to blame him, but it's a shame to see the Scorpions brand just die on the vine this way.

On the bright side, if the Spurs don't buy the Scorpions, you can always be there from the start of a different team. If this proves to be the end of the Scorpions, it doesn't have to be the end of the Crocketeers.

The supporters in San Jose stayed together after the original Earthquakes moved to Houston.

    Stay determined.

No kidding. Eight month player contracts are bad enough, but I didn't realize that NASL standards don’t require health insurance coverage for players. It's not even offered at a cost through the league for players and their families, and has to be obtained privately? Wow! This is the league that wants to sue for D1 status?
