River Plate can be a huge team in 2015 only by trophies !! By the games ... .they are one of a middle team. In Copa Libertadores groups stages played too bad, but in knock-out rounds made some good games, which helped them to win the title. In Copa Sudamericana 2015 they won a match against LDU and lost one. Yah, Chapecoense is one of the bottom teams in Brazil, and probably River will advance in semifinals !! There, they can face Atletico Paranaense, which is a strong opponent A good history in Libertadores, a middle -> strong team in Brazil. In first half of table in Copa Libertadores, I see finalist Independiente Santa Fe, which is one of the biggest teams of Conmebol. They can eliminate Independiente Avellaneda, and then, in semifs Huracan or Defensor. River lost Primera Division anyway, but they can have all continental competitions, and its awesome for them or for any conmebol teams : 2014 Copa Sudamericana 2015 Copa Libertadores 2015 ReCopa Sudamericana 2015 ? Copa Sudamericana 2015 ? FIFA Clubs World Cup 2016 ReCopa Sudamericana ? damn, how will be played if River won both competitions in 2015?
If Santa Fe make it to the final I just hope they actually win the thing for Colombia. The amount of finals colombian teams have lost is astonishing to say the least
I followed very much the last year in Conmebol, and any leagues from there. Colombia have 2-3 big teams .... Santa Fe and Atletico Nacional are in top, with Junior there look my ranking for 2017 in Coefficients ranking for Conmebol, using 2015-2011 performances in Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa, Suruga & Clubs World Cup : 1. (2) Brazil 6516.9 2. (3) Argentina 5658.3 3. (10) Paraguay 2524.0 4. (13) Colombia 2170.4 5. (14) Chile 1920.1 6. (16) Ecuador 1435.2 7. (18) Uruguay 1378.0 8. (27) Bolivia 1006.2 9. (40) Peru 696.8 10. (57) Venezuela 491.4 between ( ) you have World Ranking. From 2016 to 2017, Argentina won 1.200 points against Brazil !! In 2016, Brazil had 7.319 pts, Argentina 5.242 pts. For 2017, Brazil Serie A and Argentina Primera Division wil be rathed with 100 points for the league winner, ahead England Premier League (4th - 95 points) and Germany Bundesliga (5th - 95 points) Colombia was 16th in 2015, is 13rd in 2016 and in 2017 will be 13rd for moment, only 30 points behind Ukraine (12nd place), which have Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar in UEFA Champions League and Dnipro in Europa League. So, probably Colombia will remain 13rd in the World...... its awesome anyway. Bolivia growed up very much in last years ... 2015 and 2014. Mexico, which participate in Copa Libertadores is 8th in 3 years in a row ... 2015, 2016 and 2017 will remain there. They have an advantage against other Concacaf countries, because play in both Champions League formats ... Copa Libertadores & Concacaf Champions League, and earn points from both competitions. See top3 in Concacaf to make a impression : 1. (8) Mexico 2956.3 2. (31) USA 878.9 3. (52) Costa Rica 521.4 and to remain at Colombia : 4. (19) Atletico Nacional 8. (30) Independiente Santa Fe 36. (147) Millonarios 40. (154) Deportes Tolima 44. (179) Junior 45. (192) Deportivo Cali first is Conmebol ranking, between ( ) is World Ranking
You said "river should have lost to cruzeiro" yet you didn't see the second leg, so how can you possibly make such a judgement? The first leg we lost at home, thanks to an error by a young 19 year old CB who was playing at RB because our normal RB was out. We were also recovering from the emotional trauma of being savagely attacked by Boca Juniors supporters with pepper gas the weak before. 4 of our players had to be hospitalized with burns due to the attack from the barbarians in La Bombonera. Less than a week later, we played the first leg and lost. In the second leg, with a full team, River won 3-0 in what is the best performance River put out under Gallardo and maybe for the last 10 years.
Still doesn't mean I'm not allowed to talk about the team regardless if I made a wrong statement or not.
Copa Libertadores Champions in last year : 2015 : River Plate 21pts 5w-7d-2l strong rivals : Boca Juniors & Cruzeiro 1-1 & 2-2 Tigres 1-1 & 1-1 Juan Aurich 3-0 & 0-2 San Jose 1-0 & 0-0 Boca Juniors 3-0 & 0-1 Cruzeiro 2-0 & 1-1 Guarani 3-0 & 0-0 Tigres 2014 : San Lorenzo 22pts 6w-4d-4l strong rivals : Botafogo, Gremio, Cruzeiro 3-0 & 0-2 Botafogo 1-0 & 1-1 Independiente del Valle 1-1 & 0-1 Union Espanola 1-0 & 0-1 Gremio 1-0 & 1-1 Cruzeiro 5-0 & 0-1 Bolivar 1-0 & 1-1 Nacional Asuncion 2013 : Atletico Mineiro 29pts 9w-2d-3l strong rivals : Arsenal, Sao Paulo x2, Newell's, Olimpia 5-2 & 5-2 Arsenal Sarandi 2-1 & 0-2 Sao Paulo 2-1 & 2-1 The Strongest 4-1 & 2-1 Sao Paulo 2-2 & 1-1 Tijuana 2-0 & 0-2 Newell's 2-0 & 0-2 Olimpia So, what we talk here? River had the best rute to win Copa Libertadores .... only 2 strong rivals in their road, Boca Juniors and Cruzeiro.
You say that Olimpia can't take River because they couldn't score past Independiente yet you lost to them last night with them keeping a clean sheet and lost by a bigger margin. As you say though they are your "nietos"
We lost because our head is in other things... the sudamericana and the mundial. And yes we call them our "nietos" because in the history of the derby, river has won 72 times compared to just 50 for el rojo. BTW breaking news- Universitario still hasn't won a conmebol trophy!
Chapecoense, which defeated Palmeiras 5-1 over the weekend, is gearing up for River Plate. Let it be known that despite the painful defeat, Palmeiras has done well in 2015, having defeated SPFC 3-0 and having eliminated Corinthians on PKs in the state championship, and looking like it fight for a 2016 Libertadores berth. River is the faraway favorite, and I'd be surprised if Chapecoense eliminates River Plate. If they do, it'll be like USA 1, England 0 in 1950.
Independiente still have more than twice as much Copa Libertadores' as Riverplate do, and fact: Olimpia had more Libertadores' than River until this year. And nice, still insulting the fact my club doesn't have a CONMEBOL trophy. Its irrelevant to this discussion really.
No it wouldn't. If Chapecoense eliminates River, it will be shocking, yes, but it will never be like the USA beating England. USA was like Gibraltar in the 50's, and Chapecoense is a full time team. They beat Palmeiras 5-1 last night so would it be as shocking as Brazil - Germany?
Brazil-Germany was shocking not only because of the scoreline, but because of how uncommon the events were - the number of goals Brazil suffered in the time period they occurred. The Brazil that played Colombia, Chile, and Mexico was nowhere as psychologically bankrupt as the team that faced Germany (and it wasn't as poorly deployed). Chapecoense is a "full-time" team, but it has none of the history that a team with a track record of league success like River Plate does. And, it's not as if the Argentine league is not competitive. From that league, many greats who went on to reach UEFA title glory have emerged, not to mention players who comprised competitive World Cup squads. Comparatively, Chapecoense and River Plate are worlds apart. Now, can anything happen in 90 minutes? Sure. Would I personally like it if Chapecoense defeats River Plate? Moderately, only because Chapecoense is a team from my country. But do I expect River Plate to fulfill its duty as the favored team? Yes.
Very close game between Independiente and Santa Fe last night. Independiente are going out with the result last night. It will be very hard for them now to win in Bogota.
Santa Fe is good in my opinion. I haven't been following them in the league as of late but they have done well in South American competitions in the last 3 years. 2013 - Semi Final of the Libertadores 2015 - Quarter finals of Libertadores and Sudamericana Also in the altitude, I can't see Independiente winning.
I'm relaxed i was just messing with the guy. I want to see Santa Fe win. Los del rojo son todos pechos frios. Pero por lo menos el tipo habla mejor ingles q carlitos "smokeseller" tevez
First legs Nov 4-5 Second legs Nov 25-26 There will be International FIFA dates in the two weeks between the first and second matches, and fortunately this time around CONMEBOL didn't program any Sudamericana games during this period (unlike last year's semis)
My My such big talk for a team that squeezed by Chapecoense lol And don't worry about Olimpia. We did crash out against Independendiente but I think we're doing pretty well considering we have 1/3 of the budget that River has. And yes I still think we can take you, hate to break it to your over pumped up ego but River is no Barca.
