If someone wouldn't mind explaining it to me, what do the letters in quotes mean?

I took it to mean Titan Stadium at Fullerton and Weingart Stadium at East LA College will be the homes of the two teams.

If those teams do come to pass I just don't see how they're going to survive for any extended period of time. I mean LAFC will come into the league with a shiny new stadium and the Galaxy will have a shiny new DP by that time ( C.Ronaldo?). They should focus on San Diego or some other city in the west coast that doesn't have an MLS team nearby.

He he he he....LOL. This is funny. But be careful if NASL sues USSF about its proposed rules and things go bad. We may have a soccer war here. All it takes is for the Cosmos to sign Ibrahimovic and for Miami FC to sign CR7 and we have a potential war that could result in NASL overtaking MLS as a first division, a merger of both leagues with pro/rel or the death of US first division soccer.

Fullerton is far enough away from MLS but Weingart is very close to LAFC. Certainly they would be better off in San Diego. But if I were charged with coming up with a strategy at Weingart, my approach would be to go for the Mexican-American market with LA Aztecs branding, probably switch the color scheme to Mexican national team colors, have marketing communications be in Spanish as much as English and sign Mexican/Mexican-American players including a few older stars. You could argue Chivas USA tried this but they pinned it to fans of Chivas so this would be a broader niche. I imagine you could get 5000-10000 regularly with that approach.

So all it takes is for two of the top 5-10 players in the world to sign with a team in a league that will require them to play in front of smaller crowds at glorified high school stadiums with less guarantee of regular paychecks? Seems reasonable...

That is how Pele started with the Cosmos. Watch out MLS death is coming. Or watch out NASL death is near.

Unfortunately I think the latter is certainly true, the USSF lawsuit I think will only accelerate things.

You know , whether Peterson is full of hot air or not, I do admire him for having a lot of guts. Although it was a different time and maybe nothing would have changed , I always wonder where the sport in North America would be today if there was someone like him around from 1985-1995.

Did some quick digging and found this article from back in March, written by a biz journal in the Bay Area. Obviously, take it with a grain of salt, but it does have some interesting info: http://www.bizjournals.com/sanfranc...h-american-soccer-league-mls-earthquakes.html

Quotes: "Without naming names, Peterson said one ownership group includes locals; the other is a "foreign ownership group." The four-year-old league, he said, could make a decision to award a franchise to one of the groups in "the next couple months."

If that happens quickly, there's a chance the team could begin play next season. More likely a decision will come after April, setting the team's debut for 2017."

Again, take it with salt. The article is from March and they said an announcement could be coming in the next couple of months, and the article is now nearing 6 months old.

Another article, this time from BBC and more recent, published July 31, has this quote: "Another challenge is establishing a competitive structure across such a large geographical area.

"That is why we have gone for four teams in Florida, which has a population bigger than some countries," says Mr Peterson, "we will do something similar on the West Coast, and then look to fill in [in between]."

That would seem to back up a little of what blueballs69 (can't believe I just typed that name) is saying with 3 teams being announced at once.

Why the big secret? If a potential ownership group is interested, why is it such a big deal to not name a name? Never understood that line of thinking.

This is kind of funny. With the exception of a 5 year hiatus of when I lived in Europe, I've been living in the SF Bay Area my whole life and always thought this.
