If the mod in question has folks not so happy with him, it could be in part because he's played the bad guy for some things we supermods have been pushing for. We don't have any minimum posting threshold for mods, nor should we. I'd much rather a mod be active as a mod than as a poster and sometimes in our role we unfortunately make some people less than happy with our moderating decisions. I don't think that is related to how frequently we post. It's one of the blessings and curses of a moderated site, but I think we would agree that the alternative is much worse.
I have a suggestion. Earlier I think mods had the ability to know the post count of each and every poster in a particular thread. Is there a possibility to bring that back? Now all I can see is the number of posts that I have made in the thread. This is quite useful in identifying transfer muppets.
Keep it about the game. If I post a picture of a scantily-clad babe and end up with 200 extra points and a big row of green dots, is not the purpose defeated? I think the current system is heads and tails better than the old.
Serious suggestion: GET RID OF THE FAVORITE CLUBS LIST. The intended purpose never really took off and it would be so much easier to type in a name of your 2-3 favorite teams over begging for every club from famous to obscure to be added to a list.
There needs to be a function whereby Mr. Warmth is given permission to follow a known jackass, berating him unmercifully, using whatever language and terminology he chooses, until said jackass breaks down and begs for mercy. Hounded day and night, without pause. Every time he posts something, even in the "So Hows the Weather Where You Are?"forum, MW is there mocking, taunting and pissing in his cornflakes. Maybe have a nominations thread and when 25or maybe 50 guys vote for someone - lets call this hypothetical person Perndog - as being a brainless, witless, clueless racist annoyance who contributes nothing of value and annoys hell out of everyone, then his name is forwarded to MW for action with extreme prejudice. The entertainment value alone would be awesome sauce.
Or, it's an actual issue...if mods aren't around to deal with an escalating situation, then skim through a thread ex post facto, and then mete out punishment without context then that mod should be a casual contributor...not an administrator...a mod not consistently having a presence means that they can't be there to de-escalate a situation in the first place by that point the damage is done and the battle has been lost...
Right. We had an easier time tracking who was actively reading but not posting as compared to flat-out gone in the old system. We need to be better at seeing who has checked out and making changes more swiftly (which still might not be fast, but will be faster).
get rid of Bill Archer. Awful blogger. Also, Bigsoccer should give guest analysts to write some opinion pieces here. Preferably those without an agenda nor bias. Also kill signatures plz.
Click your name on the top right Click preferences Look for "Show people's signatures with their messages"
I just have to click your username or avi and a pop-up comes up with your post count and rep points. With the click of a button I then know that you have: Messages: 10,546 Rep Received: 21,379 Too easy.
Kill these errors once and for all. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/report-5xx-errors-here-502-520-522-523-etc.2005640/
Of course, but having all those green nips sure was fun I did however like the post counts in profiles. Kind of a nod to posters who contributed heavily to the forum. I could see what you are saying though that they shifted focus to the posters themselves. Yeah but how will everyone who doesn't click know how great I am? That's why we have more than one moderator in many forums. I'm not sure it's a moderators job to always de-escalate a situation - he's showing you where the line is and if you cross it, he'll get involved. We can't be responsible for making sure that people don't have to take responsibility for their actions.
It's not a must-do, but does anyone else remember when BigSoccer had a clock on each page? "The time is currently 3:28 PM. All times are listed as *whatever your time zone was*?" Yeah, I wouldn't mind having it back. Likewise, there used to be links when viewing each thread to go to either the next or last thread. I don't know if this software supports it, but there's gotta be a hack...
Still there. Just go to your unsername above the thread and click on "Your Profile Page." Regarding sigs - the ability to put links like we do in standard posts (highlight a word/phrase and click the link icon to insert the link).
Probably not a good idea...sometimes, there's a "blanket warning" or a general post they want everyone to see.
Believe me, mods would also like to ignore select posters outside of their own forums (within them too, but that defeats one of the purposes of moderating). So there's another suggestion.
