Gallardo is a bonafide River Plate legend; won Copa Libertadores as both a player and coach. The guy is only 39 years old and managed River to Copa Sudamericana & Copa Libertadores. He is genuine. If there is a global award for best young manager, he would win it.

For sure. I hope to see him coach in Europe sooner rather than later.

    Smart guy.

I have nothing against River: where did that come from? I am just saying that if Arévalo Rios had won a continental title, that would have been a sad state of affairs.

For the record, I used to be a huge River fan so I have no idea where this ridiculous question comes from.

    Saludos!

You said "i guess its not too bad river won" to me that means like "damn well i didn't want river to win but its better than Arevalo Rios winning" it seems like the reaction a racing or san lorenzo fan would have. If you used to be a huge River fan i'd figure you'd say something like "gracias river! so great to see river lift the cup after 19 years and even better because that scum arevalo rios didn't win it"

PD- I hate arevalo rios also. A tribunero if i've ever seen one. Claiming he has always wanted to play in boca- when he was heavily linked with River in 2011. He's laughable and he's hated in his own country.

And you make it sound like I have to be a fan of or grateful every team a Chilean has played for? Does this apply for you whenever an Argentine plays abroad? Medel is my favorite Chilean but you wouldn't have caught me dead cheering for Vo-k. I was, however, happy when he performed well, etc.

Hope this clears up your confusion.

Alright. Of course i don't cheer for argentines abroad, i couldn't care less. Nationality means little to me. River is my team because it was the team of my parents, my grandparents (3 of the 4) also, and i lived as a child 5k from the stadium. Its the only team i know. Then i went to the US and it was still the only team for me. Of course i like other teams, but river is something different. For me, its the biggest team in the world. We have so many real or serious fans, people who are in the day to day of the club. I don't mean man utd. or barca who have 100 million fans in asia who could maybe tell you the first xi on a good day- in river i know fans from so many countries. And these people are fans who could talk to you about the youth divisions, transfers, etc. Es algo unico

Well, congratulations Gayinas. As difficult as it is to win La Copa, I expect that big teams like Boca and River will always be contenders when they are in it. Really, what's surprising is not that River won it again, but that it took you guys so long to do it.

Boca, River, Independiente, Sao Paulo, Santos, Corinthians, Nacional & Penarol, Cerro Porteno, Libertad & Olimpia, LDU Quito, Colo Colo & Universidad de Chile, Sporting Cristal, Deportivo Cali & Atletico Nacional.

The chances of Independiente playing the copa libertadores are slim and none.... and slim just left town.

Now i also need to ask you- how is sporting cristal or deportivo cali considered an "historical club" - maybe you mean america de cali...

The best colombian club overall inoints in libertadores is deportivo cali, they havent win but have been in the final twice. I think that america and deportivo should be there.

once caldas was champion, but they havent been so great, depsite that time..

by me, Atletico Nacional is the best Colombia club. Maxim of leagues played, best performance in Copa Libertadores (winner once, togheter Once Caldas, but Once C was only a surprise). America de Cali have 4 finals played and had more trophies in Colombia, probably for this they think are the best ... Deportivo Cali is not far, with 2 finals in Copa Libertadores, 9 trophies and 4th in seasons.

But again, Atletico Nacional is the best : most season played, biggest trophy in CONMEBOL, most trophies in Colombia. Same, Millonarios is a strong team there, ... Santa Fe, Junior of nowadays ..

yep :D When I began to follow CONMEBOL club competitions, first team from PEru which take my attention was Sporting Cristal, then Alianza Lima .... in 2004 - 2005 - 2006 :) Universitario have the most titles, but after 2000+ I think that the world hear better about Sporting than Universitario

Ah-ha! I always had the feeling the names had something to do with it for non-Peruvians. "Universitario" has too many vowels, too many syllables and sounds too generic.

Alianza Lima does sound cooler, and it has the word Lima in it so it's easier to remember. That's about all they going for them though.

    Yes.

And despite that, la U still places higher than you guys
