I was joking but my answer was serious, he's there with the team. On the bench, yes.

3-0 for Malmo. This is crazy.
Beside Minamino and Okugawa, missing CL again would be outrageous for Salzburg.

Uhm... what? Has Salzburg even ever qualified to Champions League? I don't think they were going to have many chances at the final playoffs anyway. Depends on the draw. They already got out against Malmo last year, btw.
    And it was a 3-0
    lol

77' to make the first sub, wtf.

For Austria's best team's B team Liefering has one of the worst defenses I've ever seen in my life...

    You say so.
We're still talking of a squad which has done really good in the last EL editions, despite Austrian clubs aren't good at all.

Great win for the Swedes once again! RB Salzburg was a fantastic team a couple of years ago, but seems like nothing now. On a different note, its pretty hard to justify the Austrian League ( or the Danish one a couple of years ago) having 2 teams eligible for CL.

But if they were to reach the playoff, surely they would have a good shot at making it into the qualifying round. The likes of Dinamo Zagreb, Bate Borisov, Celtic and Basel ( who are nothing compared to what they used to be) are certainly not that much better than RB Salzburg.

Look at the size of budget and investment between the two clubs.

lol Basel... come on man. They were in the last 16 over Liverpool last time. I agree that a few other names were beatable though. Their loss

Uhm have you really seen Salzburg's lineup? There was even a 17y lol. That's not RB Lipsia you know... =p.
But yeah I think that if Soriano was on the pitch, it would've been a different story

no mention of an injury on the website. Let's hope he didn't commit career suicide as I suspected.

    career suicide lol.
Hwang is there from high school since last year and he's always played.
There are tons of players in the JLeague who even had great seasons and then did absolutely nothing for the rest of their career.
I like Okugawa, but he had proved absolutely nothing yet apart from being an interesting prospect. Even if overhyping youngsters happens a lot here. This isn't Muto to Chelsea.

And don't get me wrong, I for one here think that if he's not injured and he keeps not being used, then his coach is a blatant incompetent. But I doubt his agent wouldn't have a word with Salzburg if this kept being a problem in the long term.
Kakitani's career isn't gone to suicide because he had an ass coach one season. At least wait before jumping the gun.

Kakitani didn't have much to suicide, it's been pretty much found out that he was as competitive as a newly born shrimp. I still have hopes in Okugawa.

That shrimp has a good chance to play in the champions league this year and a 20 goals season under his bag in JLeague, so I guess I'm okay with how far he has gone.
I can only wish for him to reach a similar club, but first - since we talk about competitive spirit - he has to make himself noticed in Liefering at very minimum.

Playing in the Champions League is a matter of opportunity, Nordsjælland, BATE Borisov, Malmo, Ludogorets, Maribor, Wien, Pilzen etc were in it recently and you don't need to be a world class player to sign there.

It's not a matter of opportunity when your club makes it to the round of 16 and makes the group stage every time, but nice try. It's top level football every year.
And nobody takes his 20 goals away from that guy either. It's an accomplishment, no matter if he's not good enough. Kakitani was plenty of good and the difference between them is abysmal.

Abysmal ? I don't think so, both are guys who don't fight for the ball and thus have no presence upfront. You can believe Paulo Sousa was an ass but when he was on the pitch, I saw the exact same flaws I was seeing with Cerezo and the NT.
And yeah FC Basel is not a top level club, it's one of those teams caught in between Europa League and Champions League level, once in a while they'll reach the next round but they offer no particular guarantee.

Well, Minamino is surely aiming at that. And for nice parties for sure. Like he did in Osaka.
Too bad for the boy that he can't show his qualities on the pitch. He's no longer a wonder boy I assume.
Basel is far from being a good team. It was a good team years ago.

FC Liefering & promotion to Red Bull Salzaburg will get Okugawa a loan to random Bundesliga 2 club in the future. He could have done that & perhaps more if he stayed at Kyoto Sanga.

Absolutely abysmal, which is one will always remain in Nagoya doing absolutely nothing his whole career while the other one booked a ticket for a world cup and had Japan winning the same EAFF that is a borefest this year. In technique, football intelligence they're day and night.

As for Basel, oh yeah, getting to the next round in Champions League once in a while, let me count how many teams in Europe do that every year... oh wait. 16.
A history of taking down the likes of Manchester United.
It's better than any team involving japanese players in Bundesliga apart from Kagawa and sometimes Uchida, for example.

? When did Minamino have a great season in JLeague?

That's based on... ? It seems that they were pretty damn good last year to me. As I said, it's better than any Bundesliga transfer we witnessed since Kagawa and Uchida.

I'm not sure how a promotion Salzburg would get a loan to Bundesliga2... ? Last I remember, a player went from Salzburg to Dortmund.
Or, for all we know he could have spent his career in J2 like the next Miyayoshi.

Scoring goals in Nagoya or having an anonymous career in Switzerland, it's pretty darn close to me. LOL at the World Cup thing. Kisho Yano did too ! the EAFF was awful two years ago too btw, but he was efficient there, it's true. That said, I'm starting to believe you were born in Basel or grew up being one of their fans, that would explain the infatuation. Marseille beat the likes of Inter, Liverpool, Dortmund, I'm not gonna say we're a top level club you know.

It probably has to do with your passion for the JLeague and disconnection from reality, if the anonymous career involves champions league football.

And nothing will take it ever from him, I guess? We can disagree about that pick but the fact remains.

I guess it's always awful no matter what, nobody is ever satisfied. He was good, and he was also good against Ned\Belgium.

There is no infatuation, I couldn't be more indifferent about them, I'm just reporting facts. Marseille doesn't allow to champions league football every year and last time it also went pretty terrible.
Still, just like Basel both are better clubs than all of the ones involving japanese players at the moment, bar Kagawa, who still can't play CL this year. I guess I'm infatuated by Marseille too now ;)

The "top clubs" you are talking about have 1 japanese players if we don't count Milan given its current state and if we kindly count Kagawa. So if we want to get down that road, I don't know what's the point? I-it's a top club but not as top as Barcelona so who cares !

One player or two (Sadio Mane to Southampton). Most end up in random clubs after Red Bull Salzburg

Leverkusen, Southampton, Dortmund, Koln, Stuttgart, wtf are we talking about?

But again, I'm not sure what does that have to do with Salzburg in the first place? It's not like players going to a club or another has anything to do with Salzburg as a club. It's certainly easier than being scouted from Sanga, now that's for sure. Nobody buys J2 players and Kubo's transfer was a miracle already.

But I guess the unknown narrative where he was going to conquer Sanga first, then move to Gamba, and then Barcelona is more appalling than the reality of a player who right now can't buy a spot.
