    Good one Jake!!!

Right about now I've got only one question, do you take a personal Cech or does my payment have to be made in cash??? Either way, just so long as we win at least two trophies this season it'll be fine with me.

COYF'n'G!!! COPC!!! (Come On Petr Cech!!!) Lead us to THE TITLE and FA Cup double!!!

Very interesting insight into Cech's move.

"... a few days after the end of the season and Cech’s emotional farewell to Stamford Bridge against Sunderland, two meetings swayed the deal in Arsenal’s favour.
The first was with Abramovich. Cech was confident the Chelsea owner would let him leave for the club of his choice, but he was keen for Abramovich’s formal blessing.
He got it during a heart-to-heart meeting and then moved on to Wenger. That was the clincher. One conversation with Wenger and Cech was hooked. It has been suggested that Cech’s decision to sign for Arsenal was so he would not have to uproot his family. There is some truth in that. But ask Cech the real reason, he could answer it in a single word: Wenger.

Negotiations were painless, despite the lure of more money in Paris and his fluent French meaning a smooth transition into Parisian life. All that was left for Cech was to make one more phone call — to Mourinho.
But this wasn’t a call asking for Mourinho’s permission. It was a professional courtesy to the man who has had such an impact on his career, to tell him he was leaving for Arsenal."
By this point, Mourinho was powerless. The deal he preferred not to happen was virtually complete. He had been bypassed; Cech went straight to the to the top."

Some hope in the world if a ruthless billionaire like RA can show some loyalty, professionalism and compassion. And then there is Jose to bring things back in balance. If we beat chelsea at all this season, or by some miracle win the league, I guarantee Mou will say it was because we had such a good keeper and passive-aggressive shif the blame to RA.

That would be amazing: us winning the league because of Cech, and Mourinho getting fired because of it.

I would count that as a double for our season.

Jesus man, chill out. Ever heard of hyperbole?. If you've read any post of mine you'd know I'm high on the squad and predict that we will actually challenge this season. But challenging is different than expecting a win. It will be a fun season I thing, but the chelsea are the holders and have maintained at least while the manc teams are spending the gdp of Zimbabwe on players. So, forgive me if I don't think we will win the league even if I'm extremely hopeful we will and if I expect a true challenge.

Alright, I've had 24hrs to calm down. He only played 607 mins in the EPL last year. He's just rusty and needed to get the cobwebs out.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    For now.

Honestly, I was a little worried about this transfer from the moment it was officially announced. It's a no brainer if Cech can regain his old form, but there is no guarantee of that. I worry about how that head injury will affect his longevity as a player too. As soon as we signed him I wondered if we would have been better off with Begovic. Hopefully he can shake off the rust soon and get back to top form. Either way, I'll still take him over Szcz every time.

I dunno. He's been slow off his line for a couple of years now. He struck me last year as a not-at-the-peak-his-powers keeper. Good, but not the maestro he used to be. There's a reason he wasn't starting for Mourinho anymore.

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. They needed to start Courtois or lose him. Chelsea did just fine with Cech before that: they defend deep and don't ask the GK to come out a whole lot.

    2. It was a couple of mistakes - I think we're reading too much into it. Let's see what happens moving forward.

    3. Why is no one talking about the horrible offside line on West Ham's first goal?

    1. Sure they did. But I don't think Courtois now is a better keeper than Cech was in his pomp. What we have is a formerly world class keeper, who while better than Wojcheich or Ospina, has shown, in the games I've seen, a tendency to come off his line slower than he used to.

    3. For me, I guess it is because I have come to expect that we're going to have any number of mistakes like that. I just file it away in the It-is-what-it-is category.

Two seasons ago, Cech actually had better stats than Courtois. I just wonder if a year on the bench has affected him more than we would have thought. We will find out in time, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about it.

    Petr... what's left to say?

He's got this uncanny thing where he's already moving into his save as the shooter is setting up his shot. Not sure how he doesn't get beat by a fake but damn, he's so impressive.

That's one of the things you get from a very highly trained GK.

A professional GK coach (admittedly, of the MLS, Vancouver to be exact) once talked to me how he's always been more impressed by these things. He told me that the "highlight" saves are mostly talent. Some people are just good at it, and you see it since they're still young. The key is to develop and maintain that talent physically and mentally (he said some people are only quick with one hand, or quick when making saves at certain height.) There's not much you can do to make someone much better or worse at it though.

Footwork on the other hand, is almost entirely learned. That's why GK coaches love seeing good footwork because they know it's the result of training. It's also how many GKs remain relevant very late into their career because footwork is how a GK looks safe and reliable. They're rarely called upon to do anything spectacular.

    Just watched this http://player.arsenal.com/matches/g803279/video/6993/cech-on-facing-tottenham

And I took a few things from this interview:
    1) How mature and smart he is. What a contrast to our last #1!!
    2) The way he analyzed the Bayern game, it sounds like he could be a great coach. Not just a GK coach, but an overall coach, manager! We shall see.
