Surprising that devante didn't make u-20 roster for World Cup. Could have used him at the Toulon tournament too.

I had no idea he had decided to forgo Germany and suit up for the USMNT.

Last time I kept track of him he was developing at an accelerating rate. What happened? was it his choice to pass up or Germany's choice to give him a rest.

Devante a sub in the 65th minute for Mainz II in the 3rd Liga again. Not a great sign for working his way into the first team this season.

If he can steadily improve and get more playing time with Mainz II, then he may have an outside shot at making the Mainz 18 at some point in the season. Just alot of moving parts.

Yeah, he's still young and is obviously in the picture, having already made his first team debut last season. I'm just a little disappointed that after a year of mostly playing for the 2nd team, he seems to be back there again, unlike say Jerome Kiesewetter, who is with the first team at Stuttgart (for now).

Mainz is a decent team, and his position probably isn't a position of need at this point. In Germany, the second teams are like minor leagues in baseball. It's not a guarantee that where you start will be where you finish. Injuries, trades, alot of things can change in a short time.

Jerome had a very good summer, and seemed to be really on the up with Stuttgart last term.

Let's keep in mind that Devante is 3 years younger than Jerome, has to compete for first team minutes on a better team than Jerome, and is a lot farther ahead in his development relative to where Jerome was at the same age.

I think Devante is going to be fine, still a future Bundesliga regular in my opinion.

Nice, it was supposedly his first touch after coming on.

Based on that gif, it was his third touch at a minimum. ;)

40 yard rocket, minimal wind up. Amazing what professional athletes can do.
