Ryan Laursen has started and played the full 90 at right back in every league game this season. Thus far he's scored one goal and dished out 6 assists. His good form lead to a call up and his first cap with the Denmark U-21's in November.

Laursen appears to be a really talented player but as of now it appears that he's pretty firmly entrenched in the Danish national team setup. Still, definitely a player to keep an eye on moving forward.

Denmark could run out him at RB and Simon Poulsen at LB and double-down on the Yanks...

    Scored again:

Ryan Laursen is a 22-year-old Danish-American right back who plays at Esbjerg. He was born in Long Beach but has played with Denmark’s youth teams throughout most of his life. It looks like US Soccer has reached out to him in the past. That all said, Laursen went the full 90 minutes and scored a goal in Esbjerg’s 3-3 draw to Midtjylland on Sunday. Here is his goal.

I'll footnote this by saying that he wasn't just born in the US, his mother is American.

    I could just hear Earnie...

"You're Danish AND American? What a coincidence! I used to play for the US! Did you know that? Have you ever talked to Jurgen Klinsmann? I have his number... we could call him right now."

No news as such, but Esbjerg have sold their 22-yo left back Jonas Knudsen to Ipswich, so this could delay a Ryan Laursen deal, considering that they are going to need to find some replacements.

Esbjerg now refuse selling Ryan Laursen in this transfer window :

Is a possible sale of Ryan closed now that you have let Jonas Knudsen go ?

    - "In principle, the one thing has nothing to do with the other. Ryan is one of the key players in Esbjerg, so we are thinking of him as a long-term investment. A Jonas sale has on the other hand been on the way for a long time, because this was the plan when we chose to extend his contract last year, that he would move on this summer."

But it sounds like AZ are willing to put a large sum of money on the table for a player who you picked up cheaply from Lyngby. So can you afford to categorically say no ?

    - "We do not look at it that way. We have always insisted that we did not want to sell Ryan, and we have not changed our mind. So we are determined that Ryan will not to be sold in this transfer window."

But is it not possible that you will end up with a frustrated young player who feel that his dream of a move is blocked?

    - "When you sign a long-term contract, it's a two-way street and Ryan is a very sensible young man who I believe will understand this. Now we are in a situation which we need to make the best of. and so far I have not sensed any dissatisfaction from Ryan, who has behaved highly professional. "

But after so many Esbjerg sales in recent transfer windows, are you at a point where you fear that fans would "throw a brick through your window", if you chose to sell both Jonas and Ryan?

    - "We've gone through a phase in Esbjerg, where we have had a group of youngsters who have evolved tremendously and have looked good. so it is with both pride and sadness that we need to accept that they are so talented that foreign clubs want them. But we also need a reasonable good football team and some continuity, and right now we do have the finanmcial ability to say no to offers, unlike some years back."

    http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/fodbol...emmeskifte-blokeret-faar-nej-til-salg/5668045

Ryan suffered an injury in his last superliga match, that could prevent a move a move abroad at this point in time.

Does it worry you that you wont get permission to leave right now ?

    - "Uh, no. It does not. They have just sold Jonas, so I think it is positive that the club is willing to sell, and it also show the rest of us that Esbjerg is a club that develop and sell players. They do not insist on keeping us. So I'm not worried about it and also believe that if the offer is good enough, then I will also be sold, he says. "

But Esbjerg is saying "njet" (Russian "no") this summer

    - "well we'll have to see. Right now I am in Esbjerg, where I have a contract until 2019, so this is where my focus is. I do everything I can to train well and play well. there really is not much else I can do."

But how keen are you on leaving this summer?

    - I dont know. It is an opportunity that might not reoccur, so of course I would like to try it. I wish to achieve the highest possible level, so of course it's a great opportunity - but it is ultimately the club making the decision," ... he said, adding: - "I would never lose anything by staying a year more in Esbjerg, where I, after all, have not played more than 50 games. so I still have much to learn".

But you feel the urge ?

    - I think all player do as soon as you hear that there is bid and you feel ready for it, then you want to go. But it all has to fit together.

But you do not slam your fist on the table ?

    - "Haha, no, I have not. Now we must see if the opportunity turn up at a later point in time."

Do you think it could still happen in this transfer window?

    - "No I do not think so. But be damned I do not know. I did not expect anything before the window opened, but now we will see what happens. Right now my focus in on Esbjerg and where we stand. and we need to win some games."

The last news I saw was from the end of January which said AZ hadn't given up their chase of Laursen after having their first bid for 500k euros rejected in the summer transfer window. Haven't seen anything since:

He missed most of last season with injuries, came back in May for a couple games, sprained something again (coincidentally under a challenge by Thomas Delaney), and seems to still be recovering now. He's not played in any of Esbjerg's pre-season games so far, so it seems he's still not fully healthy again.
