May as well start the new season thread off for the Champions seeing as we are (supposedly) signing Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City today. The Belgian CB is rumoured to be costing us about £1.5m with Manchester City having a buy back clause inserted into the agreement. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32954918 In other news regarding our central defence Ronny Deila is hopeful of keeping VVD at the club for at least one more season... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32864730 Make it so Peter, make it so.

did you guys see this? http://swissramble.blogspot.ca/2015/06/celtic-everythings-gone-green.html i was surprised to see the difference between celtic's wages and even some of the english championship teams' wages. i always assumed celtic was at a mid-table epl level of spending. the disparity of the tv deals is just unreal. that tv money makes even the bottom tier epl teams rich compared to a big club like celtic.
An interesting read but, and not trying to belittle your post, I'm afraid it's not revealed anything that most Celtic fans didn't already know unfortunately.
BREAKING:Man Utd youngster Saidy Janko passes medical and is to be unveiled tomorrow at St Mirren Park, permanent deal.— Celtic Transfer talk (@CelticTransfer1) June 30, 2015
i'm sure you're right. i just didn't imagine the gap was so big between celtic and the midtable epl clubs. and then i knew the gap between celtic and the rest of scotland was huge, but i wouldn't have guessed that celtic's wages are more than every other team combined. seeing the actual numbers, it makes some of the results in the CL even more impressive.
So we started off our pre-season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Den Bosch on Wednesday night. Best thing regarding this match is the fact that Tom Rogic was in sparkling form. I thought from the minute we signed him he had a chance to become a very good player for us. With Ronny at the helm hopefully (if he stays injury free) he may get the chance to shine this season.
2nd signing of the season so far ---- Saidy Janko delighted to join the Hoops http://t.co/sL6I4PB8PV (NM) pic.twitter.com/fGxIYleAVu— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) July 2, 2015
Now that we've signed Janko (see above) it looks like we have accepted a bid in the region of £2m for Adam Matthews from Sunderland. Nice bit of business for all involved if it comes off. No need to hold four right backs in the first team squad (Lustig, Janko, Fisher). Those three should be more than enough cover for the position. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33374518
Lost 5-3 to Dukla Prague on Saturday in our 2nd pre-season friendly. Nor surprise to hear that our defending was nothing short of shambolic for a lot of the game. Izzy in particular was mince. Still, no injuries. Onwards we go.
BREAKING NEWS: #Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of New Bhoy, Logan Bailly http://t.co/oy4bOehVqH (NM) pic.twitter.com/4ZzbyAnHYZ— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) July 8, 2015 Welcome to Celtic new Bhoy Nadir Ciftci (NM) pic.twitter.com/R3ipOG9zNw— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) July 9, 2015 Two more new signings. Bailly will obviously play back-up to Craig Gordon now that Zaluska has left the club. Ciftci will certainly give us a different dimension up front. Whether he will be any better than say, Leigh Griffiths remains to be seen...
Adam Matthews has joined Sunderland. I think this is a very good piece of business for us and for Adam. Good luck to him in the Premiership. #DoneDeal Adam Matthews is officially a Black Cat #hawaythelads pic.twitter.com/Jo1YB42n5Y— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) July 3, 2015
So the main event began last night with a 1st leg 2-0 victory over Icelandic team FC Starjnan. Not great by any means. We look sufficiently blunt enough up front to provide palpitations for the next round. Yes I say the next round as we should certainly take care of business in the away leg. We'll certainly get at least 1 goal which would be more than enough. The fact that they can't park the bus for 90mins should ensure that. Goals ----
Assuming we can get through against Starjnan on Wednesday night we will then have to play either Qarabağ FK (AZE) or FK Rudar Pljevlja (MNE)
Celtic win the away leg 4-1 (after falling behind in the 7th minute) for an aggregate of 6-1 and do indeed face Qarabağ FK in the next round.
The fact that we even have to go through these teams is laughable. The only thing we have to do is not become complacent when playing against these teams and we're through, in terms of football we are leagues ahead.
