But would there be such a demand right now? The only interesting angle is that he is an American who came to Italy and etc.

Can't wait until Rossi comes to MLS....sometime in 2018 after missing another World Cup.

how well regarded is he in Serie A in regard to his talent and stats?

Is it seen as a big deal that he missed out on 2 world cups?

He could call PBP with Stu Holden as the color commentator.

I hope he's better than he was during the Euros a couple of years ago. He added almost nothing, even though he was talking about Italy (maybe that was the problem).

Translation of an article that came out last week in Calcioweb.eu:

Fiorentina’s Rossi problem: from injuries to salary reduction

Fiorentina took a gamble on Giuseppe Rossi, but the striker has been very unlucky and has suffered several physical problems. His troubled stint with the Viola has been characterized by serious injuries, and the club has not been able to count on the player on a regular basis.

Now Fiorentina is evaluating the situation and must resolve both aspects of the Rossi case: the first, relating to his physical problems, and the second, linked to the economic side. The Florentine club has several doubts about the stability of the forward’s knees, and they’re particularly concerned about his physical condition. These uncertainties could also affect the club’s transfer campaign.

Furthermore, as reported by calciomercato.com, it seems the club has asked the American-born player to accept a reduction in his salary – a request that was not appreciated by Rossi’s entourage. The two parties will meet again soon to seek a solution.

    Poor, poor Joey Reds.

He's still highly rated as a talent. He burst onto the Serie A scene with Parma, and people remember that. I think everyone wanted their team to take the chance when Viola ended up signing him.

The 2010 WC team for Italy was like a reunion tour. There were a ton of guys on that roster who were microwaved beef jerky done, but between those guys and the other political picks by Lippi, Rossi got left out, which most people thought was a joke. 2014, he never had a chance. Immobile, Destro, Balotelli, Cerci, Cassano...there were too many guys coming off good seasons, and Rossi was coming off of another injury.

and yet he was in the running and there was a general feeling that if he had stayed healthy, especially given his showing in the confed cup?, that he would've been on the plane.

I find it laughable if Fiorentina really did try to get Rossi to accept a salary reduction.

He was coming off of two consecutive serious knee injuries when they signed him from Villarreal, so they knew the risks they were taking.

how much is he making a year? 3/4 million euros?

I'd imagine Gomez is seen as way more of a flop than he.

Rossi was on the bench but did not play in Fiorentina's season opener, a 2-0 win against AC Milan.
