After reading some good reviews online I went ahead and ordered The Stand Omnibus off Amazon. Hope to get it sometime this week.

Major bump. Anyone reading any good comics/graphic novels?

I just picked up Black Dynamite issue #1 and it's great.

I've been reading Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. I know it's a classic, and helped shape the current Batman comics, but I hate Frank Miller's art and writing style. It feels like I'm reading poetry from a beatnics club. I'm 2/3's of the way through, and I just want to stop. Not a fan.

However, I did like Scott Snyder's recent run on Batman, especially The Night of the Owls story arc. I'd recommend that to any Batman fan.

Any opinions on Preacher being created into an AMC series by Seth Rogen?

I'm intrigued, but I never read the comic, so I may not be the best person to ask :)

    Yeah, get on that!

I have to say that Marvel has really been kicking ass recently with a bunch of titles.

Over the last year, however, Image was the best publisher by far.

Apparently, Casper the Friendly ghost wanted a cool, wholesome friend:

    http://www.boston.com/2014/04/09/co...-killed-off/EmThq0NP1yqCnCJ2iE5YKP/story.html

Archie Comics announced Tuesday that the famous comic book character will heroically sacrifice himself while saving the life of a friend in a July installment of ‘‘Life with Archie,’’ a comic book series that tells the story of grown-up renditions of Archie and his Riverdale gang.
‘‘We've been building up to this moment since we launched ‘Life with Archie’ five years ago and knew that any book that was telling the story of Archie’s life as an adult had to also show his final moment,’’ Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO Jon Goldwater said in a statement.
Archie’s final moments will be detailed in ‘‘Life with Archie’’ No. 36, while issue No. 37 will jump forward a year and focus on his friends Jughead, Betty, Veronica and Reggie honoring the legacy of their red-headed pal.

I can only ask, "why God? Why? Why did they wait so long????"

It's funny that the zombie Archie comic came out BEFORE they killed off his character :p

Personally, I find it disturbing that they drew Betty and Veronica looking at dying Archie with what I almost imagined to be their O-faces.

If it helps or hurts, they are only killing him off in Life With Archie, a comic set in the future of the Archie gang, after they are adults and gainfully employed (more or less). Each comic has two stories, one in which Archie is married to Betty and one in which Archie is married to Veronica.

I'm so far behind in my pull box it's not even funny. I try to keep up, but I keep adding more crap. I've currently got over 400 issues waiting to be read, unfortunately most of them are DC titles. I'm pretty much all caught up on Dark Horse, Marvel and Image titles though.

Read The Long Halloween and Dark Knight Returns this past month while I was waiting for this month's comics. Don't know how I skipped over Long Halloween for so long; Excellent read. However, I wasn't a big fan of DKR. I understand how it was such a revolutionary comic, but I've never been a fan of Frank Miller's writing.

I'm hoping Scott Snyder ties up some loose ends in this month's Batman. I'm tired of all of the side stories and tie-ins that put the main story arc on hold.

The long Halloween is my favorite batman graphic novel. The writer and artist, Loeb y Sale also wrote Dark Victory and Haunted Knight.

    Both excellent.

any graphic novel recommendations for someone a bit new? i read the occasional x-men, spiderman, and star wars comic when i was a bit younger, but haven't really read that many. was thinking about reading v for vendetta or watchmen as i know these are highly acclaimed. i also noticed that they have "a game of thrones" graphic novels. not sure if i can be bothered with reading those in traditional novel format. has anyone read the graphic versions? worth it?

would also like to hear about any decent star wars graphic novels. with the new movie on the way i just may get back into it.

Recently I've been reading "The Sixth Gun". It's pretty entertaining if you like supernatural western stories.
It revolves around six guns that give their wielder supernatural powers.

Apparently it was also the source of a failed NBC pilot. Shame, would have loved to see this on the small screen.

That sounds great I'll have to check it out. It's sad most of the comic book shops where I live have closed down.

I was debating with a friend of mine recently over which is the best original run. He said The Invisibles, I said 100 Bullets. What are yours?

'All-New' Marvel To Re-start Every Comic Title At Issue No. 1 - N.Y. Post
    http://nypost.com/2015/06/04/all-new-marvel-to-re-start-every-comic-title-at-issue-no-1/

Marvel Comics is ushering in a new era of comics this fall with a serious shake-up of its fictional universe — including re-starting every title at Issue #1, a smashing new Hulk, at least two Spider-Mans and a revival of “X-Men” favorite Wolverine, who was killed off last October.

One of the most important parts of the new world is to appeal to both die-hard fans and new readers who may only know the characters through big box-office blockbusters like “Avengers” or “Iron Man.”

DC Comics had a similar fresh start in 2011, and while it was initially a smash, there were some creative ups and downs in the aftermath. Some fans were miffed at what they considered unnecessary changes to some of their favorite characters.

    Among the changes:

    • An all-new Hulk. It will raise questions for long-term fans about Bruce Banner...
    • Wolverine will be back, but it’s not necessarily Logan...
    • Some characters will switch teams — think the Avengers and X-Men … and even sides...
    • At least two Spider-Mans — Peter Parker and his alternate-reality counterpart Miles Morales — as well as a recent addition to the Spider-Verse: Spider-Gwen...
    • The original Captain America is no longer youthful and is showing his true age...

Been reading Hellblazer paperbacks and enjoying Saga, which has been great from the start.

I'm just glad Hellblazer finally started getting bigger collections.
