My opinion, there was talk of bankruptcy which would result in amateur status and also angry fans revolting so hes just trying to calm down the angry mob.

he's talking about other things too, like the tax structure in general but at bottom he's just letting off a vague and gratuitous whine against the establishment as the rich are wont to do when it doesn't consider their whims and wallets to the exclusion of all other interests.

Ah I see, it makes sense. Chelsea could essentially hand out of a blank cheque to anyone their eye catches where everyone in Ligue 1 not named PSG can't.

This seems like a terrible idea, develop the players for Chelsea and then they leave for nothing after Marseille puts in all the hard work. All while taking minutes away from young OM players who could fetch good $$$ upon selling them to a larger club.

Its all just because they failed to develop the "OM brand" beyond the French & North African borders the reason why they lack financial resources . A better idea is getting Benjamin Stambouli on loan from Spurs.

I agree it's a problem. OM can be a global club, beautiful city, passionate fans, a club with great history. It's such a mistake that they haven't tried to branch out and become global. PSG was smart enough to do it, especially in a league that's on the rise which didn't have that "global" brand before the investment they received. The spot was there for the taking and PSG took it without any resistance.

OL definitely more popular than Marseille globally. 7 titles in a row and all those Champions League appearances helped but they continue to play friendlies in the US which helps and their partnership with Hyundia helps them expand into an important Asian market. So yeah it doesnt matter OM is more popular in France and Aulas is hated when football is global now and outside France OL will blow right past OM in terms of visiblity and relevance. For example, pretty certain PSG and OL are more popular than Marseille in Brazil. Also in America and Asian countries.

Huge news. Next year only 2 clubs will be relegated to Ligue 2. Also only 2 clubs will go from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1. Im not sure how I feel about it since 2 promotions/relegations in a 20 team league seems weird as its usually done in leagues of 16 teams or less. I would rather they go to 18 teams in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 and eliminate the Ligue Cup instead of this.

When I first read the headline of the news I thought it was a temporary decision to reduce the number of clubs to 18 but it seems that it is for the long term. Like the president said it is "to assure and protect potentional investors"??? I don't get it: What's next? Having a closed system with no relegation?

One thing I found weird in the media this past weekend the news of Gazelec making it to Ligue 1 was met with what sounded more like disappointment rather than the joy and hooray that say the promotion of Bournemouth received in England. It was as if people were not at all happy about the achievement of a very small club like Gazelec making it to the arena of the greats. To the point that most of the interview the president of the club had he had to defend the fact that they deserve to be in Ligue 1.

I like the idea of if you stay at 20 clubs, then have 2oth place do a 2 legged playoff with Ligue 2 3rd place team. You'd have 2 sold out matches and lots of interest.

For a long time I was for keeping the League Cup because it gave "lesser clubs" a chance to win a trophy but with so many "lesser clubs" making the finals of the Coup de France over the years, by that logic there's no need for the League Cup. I mean I thought yeah have the League Cup so a club like Auxerre can win a trophy well clubs like Auxerre do well in the Coupe De France and can win it thus we dont need the League Cup. Giving them a Europa League berth is even stupider.

I like that idea of playoff if you mean 18th place (not 20th place).

Lots of reasons I think. EPL, strongest league in the world so a club like Bournemouth isnt going to "weaken it." Ligue 1 already a weaker league and a club like Gazelec will do nothing to "strengthen it." There also could be an anti-Corsican sentiment involved or just maybe that Bournemouth can build a competitive team from all that EPL tv money and Gazelec can not build a competitive team to avoid relegation

Yeah sorry. I dont know why France doesnt do that. Again, can you name me a football league that has 20 teams and only 2 relegations ? I dont know any.

So PSG and OL have already locked up the automatic CL spots.

Monaco currently beating Lorient, while OM are crumbling against...Bastia for that last Playoff CL spot.
