I'll repost a table from last season (around3/4 of the way through. I guess I never updated it). It shows the modified shots on goal differentials (average per game), the goal differential (average per game), along with the predicted goal differential based on the shot differential. Not too bad, right?

    team
    SOGS/game GD/game *predicted GD
    KC 2.2 0.8 0.7
    Seattle 2.0 1.3 0.7
    Port 1.6 0.0 0.5
    Chi 0.2 0.2 0.1
    WNY -0.1 0.5 0.0
    Sky -1.2 -0.8 -0.4
    Was -1.4 -0.4 -0.5
    Hou -2.2 -0.7 -0.7
    Bos -2.6 -0.8 -0.8

*predicted GD (per game) = .33 x the modified shots on goal differential (per game)

Not bad at all. I'm thinking I might like to use your data to calculate the correlation between goal differential and winning percentage and then between SOG differntial and winning percentage- after all it's "scoreboard" that matters.........thanks for re-posting the data. I'm not sophistacted enough in statistics to look at SOG differential as a leading indicator for goal scoring -- like, if you are carrying a 0.7 SOG differential, what is the likelihood you will score 2 or more goals in the next game? . or the likelihood you will have a goal differential of +1 or more in the next game?.....there might be a statistical basis for the commonly used statement "They're bound to go in sooner or later"

There is, or seems to be, a correlation between shots on goal and goals scored. I thinkk, on average, between 67% and 75% of shots on goal are saved. For my rough purposes, I assume 33%. So for every 3 shots on goal, there's one goal scored; slightly on the generous side but for now, I think, good enough for my purpose. So if Chicago has a (modified) shots on goal differential of 2.7 in its favor per game, that's an expected goal differential of 0.9 , or almost one goal per game.

WNY's numbers are respectable; in fact, in plus territory. They may prove to be outliers; after all they're a young team and they may "play down to the level" of lower-ranked opponents and lack the ability to close out games or otherwise get results. Plus they're going to miss their starting GK now for a month. But they're a competitive team and I wouldn't be surprised to see them end up closer to the middle of the table.

(on a side note, I can't see Washington staying up near the top based on these stats. I expect them to fall, probably out of a playoff spot)

When I was looking around for info about Dagny I came across this and thought it was pretty funny

Brynjarsdottir and Berglind Thorvaldsdottir were both at FSU at the same time."...the two often speak Icelandic to each other on the field or around the team, leading to what goalkeeper Kelsey Wys described as a favored pastime among other players of pretending to understand..."(what they are saying) http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-comme...oles-women-college-cup-title-game-ucla-bruins

"Western New York has called up amateur goalkeepers Robyn Horner and Megan Tock for Saturday’s game against the Washington Spirit."

Tock graduated from Canisius College, located on Main St. in Buffalo - about 25 minutes from there to Sahlen Sports Park

    2013 • SENIOR YEAR
    • Started all but one contest in net for the Griffs ( Golden Griffins)
    • Recorded a career-high 15 saves against Detroit (Sept. 6).
    • Recorded double-digit saves in four seperate contests.
    • Recorded a shutout against Niagara in the First Round of the 2013 MAAC Tournament (10/31).
    • Finished the year ranked ninth in the nation in total saves.
    • Recorded career-highs in wins, shutouts, minutes played, games played, games started and saves

I wonder what players Lines is going to use tonight - will Eddy and/or Nick play? Kur? and how is he going to set up the midfield?- something different, I'm sure.

RE: Saturday vs. CRS. WNY shut out FCKC and didn’t let Crystal Dunn beat them. So, I think the Flash are OK defensively against the Red Stars. Huerta is not the same threat Dunn is. On the goal-scoring side, WNY can put the ball in the net, but the stats do not say the team is as dangerous when attacking as I thought. 7th in the league in SOG/game (and 6th ingoals/game). As for many games, this one will hinge on the midfield play. WNY has had at least one excellent game from its midfield. I think Lines is going to tweak it again for Saturday. CRS has: Colaprico, DIBernardo and Mautz, who are good and have been playing together fairly regularly. Home field will help WNY.

Circumstances may prevent me from going, however, if I do end up going, I will make it a point to post my observations, thanks for asking.

#flashpoint for today. Aaran Lines was on Soccer is a kick in the grass radio on Monday, and when asked about Ashley Nick and Elizabeth Eddy, replied that this was the second time he signed Nick. He signed her for the 2009 Buffalo Flash, but she did not play due to illness. Podcast at http://www.soccerisakickinthegrass.com/

Evidently the host Andrew Batisti was not aware of the #freefrisbie movement and did not ask about her.

Any word on why Frisbie hasn't played yet?

I have no information about Frisbie. I think on defense Taylor ,Hinkle,Dahlkemper, and Edmonds have all been playing 90 minutes pretty much. Chelsea Stewart is the first defender off the bench. Kur hasn't seen much time at forward at all and only a Little at midfield. now there are Nick and Eddy as bench midfielders. Frisbie apparently hasn't shown enough to displace any starter and seems to have players ahead of her coming off the bench. Maybe she is in the Verloo zone from last year....

You make assumptions. Both about Verloo and Frisbie. It's interesting that Verloo didn't make it and Colohan never even showed. Flash did not want to pay for anything for the move and living. Then offer her 6k. I just named 3 Youth national Team players. That Lines could/has done nothing with. And they are the problem??
Flash brought in Charlie because Lines is incompetent in evaluating talent. Young talent. Anyone can pick Marta, Sinclair and Morgan among others.
He picked up Fields after leaving/released form Boston. Eddy, Psh!. With 4 picks in the 1st round you would hope Charlie could pick some winners. Up top they have nothing, Williams is probably there best assets there. Fields, Hamilton, Kur, and Spencer do not create, they need someone to generate any final third results. They are fast not soccer players. They front line finally scored some against the Spirit who has given up the most goals in the league. Along with Boston. Who the Flash also scored 3 against.

If they do that against CHI then maybe they are going somewhere. They traded for Frisbie in the trade. If she sucks release her. Why would you keep Signing players and you keep Frisbie around. Dump her. Trade her. I mean if she isn't as productive as Fields, Hamilton, Kur, Eddy, Njoya, and Stewart what the hell is she doing there? They all have 0 goals and 0 Assist. 10 shots, 5 on goal. Who would want a player that can't produce that. Lets ask Lines Father in law, how its going.

The Flash Basically got Leroux for Wambach, Brooks, AND A FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICE. Leroux is another player that needs help to be productive.

And By the way. Stewart has not subbed in For defense. She has played forward.

Eddy has played all of 13 minutes. Maybe give her at least a full game before you write her off?

You mean the rude tweet Carli sent out after the loss to Seattle? Which she deleted after being called out for it? It was classless and in poor taste. Syd did the same thing when Seattle lost to Chicago the week after, and I thought she was being just as classless. It's one thing to be pissed off at your former club when things happen and you don't feel they were done in a professional manner. That's fine. But it's also part of being a professional athlete. Suck it up and deal with it.

And BTW, if Syd does in fact play in the Flash's last game against the Reign, which is in Seattle, I hope the Reign fans give her hell. Boo her every time she touches the ball, tell her she sucks, and so on, as long as there's no racist remarks or swearing. Because I want Flash fans to give Carli hell as well when Houston comes to Rochester. You can't disrespect your former club the way those two did and not expect a less than warm reception.

Coaches are only as good as their words. Business is business. But at some point in your career, try and back your words with some integrity. It is no secret that the NWSL is the worse player friendly league. I have and 2 agents say those exact words. They encourage their clients to cross the pond. The coaching is barely average, if at all. Even Harvey has admitted to needing USNT players to succeed, And we know their quality. I have not seen any improvement in Quality of her players. The league and coaches are dumping on the non NT players at a brisk pace. Lines leads that group. It makes it tolerable for the ones that get to play. But he is very disliked including some of the assistants/trainers . The retirement of players will stay brisk.

The NWSL will not last long. They may improved their business model, but you can't dump on 80% of your employees and survive.

Carli's tweet could have been classless but how the league and coaches treat and handle the players in this league is right their with her.

Kudos to the Flash for advertising on the local Fox channel between the WC games today. hopefully some ticket sales will result. The folks watching Norway-Thailand and/or Gerfmany-Ivory Coast may have broader interest in the women's game than just the USWNT.

I believe waiving Angeli was a mistake because it will be bad for team chemistry. It feels like Lines is creating an atmosphere of mercenary ism and where players will be afraid that if they get hurt, they will lose their job. this move is going to shake up Chantel Jones - first he trades her buddy Toni Pressley and now he dumps her buddy Jordan Angeli.
