Despite 2015-16 qualifiers yet to be set, qualification for 2016-17 will soon get underway.

The first entrant will be the winner of the 2015 Amway Canadian Championship, whose schedule was announced today:

    Preliminary Round
    22-Apr: Ottawa v Edmonton
    26-Apr: Edmonton v Ottawa

    Semi-Finals
    06-May: Ott/Edm v Vancouver; Montreal v Toronto
    13-May: Vancouver v Ott/Edm; Toronto v Montreal

    Final
12-Aug: Lowest Seed v Highest Seed
26-Aug: Highest Seed v Lowest Seed

I have started a dedicated thread for this competition in the Canada forum

The Canadian clubs in the "Championship" play in MLS or the NASL against mostly American clubs. Canada has a league with worse clubs that have no way of qualifying for the CCL.

Under the radar of Montréals CCL antics, the Canadian Championship preliminary round was played over the last week:

    22-Apr: Ottawa 1-3 Edmonton
    29-Apr: Edmonton 3-1 Ottawa
    Edmonton win 6-2 on aggregate

Semi Finals start next Wednesday (no rest for Montréal!):

    06-May: Edmonton v Vancouver
    06-May: Montréal v Toronto

    Return legs scheduled for 13-May.

Too bad Saputo has the league in his pocket. Montreal has yet ANOTHER bye week in the league so that they can rest for the beginning (end) of their Champions League run on Wednesday.

Canadian soccer, but they have matches in MLS. I see they are only team with fewest matches in MLS .... I think they prepared too much for CCL final :D

The Montreal Impact lost 3-2 tonight in Toronto, tying 3-3 on aggregate and advancing to the Final on away goals (how else?). Besides the CCL implications, a successful title defense would leave Montreal and Toronto tied on Canadian Championship titles (Montreal have a huge lead in overall Voyageurs' Cup wins, mind you).

Hoping EDM can pull it off against Vancouver in the return leg. Glad we made it through Toronto, it's always nice to put them down.

Unfortunately, FC Edmonton got punked again at the last minute, losing 2-1 at home (3-2 agg.) to Vancouver to set up a rematch of the 2013 final between the Whitecaps and the Montreal Impact. Btw, highlights of all Voyageurs' Cup games can be found on the CSA's Youtube channel.

This is Vancouver's 6th final. They've lost all five that they've been in.

Not quite... The first 3 years (2008-2010) were played as a league format, with no final. This is only the 5th year using a knock-out format - Vancouver have played in 3 (to be 4).

The US Open Cup final draw was recently held, and the possible matchups (host team first) are:

    1. Chicago Fire vs. Real Salt Lake/Sporting Kansas City
    2. Real Salt Lake vs. Philadelphia Union
    3. Philadelphia Union vs. Sporting Kansas City

The Open Cup semifinals, along with the first leg of the Canadian Championship final between Vancouver and Montreal, will take place next Wednesday.
