Coleman signed with a team in France. She won't be with WNY in 2015.

At the dinner, fans will have the chance to meet the 2015 WNY Flash, get autographs and take photos. Those who purchase a table of eight will be guaranteed to have a Flash player sit at their table during the meal!

2015 Fan Fest and Ticket Pickup | Sahlen Sports Park, Elma NY|10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Free!

Have you ever wanted to face a professional soccer player in a game of FIFA, Catch Phrase or Kan Jam? Pretty soon, you’ll be able to! Fans will have the chance to meet and interact with the 2015 Flash players through a series of fun activities. The event will also serve as the 2015 ticket pickup for season tickets, Flex-8 packs and Mini Packs.

I may take the drive to the Buff (Elma is just outside the Queen City) to pick up my tickets. Could be fun seeing the kids with the players - many will be from Flash Academy, I'm sure. Last year ticket pickup was at tables set up at two or three Rochester area malls - more convenient for most of us.

Engen was at practice yesterday. Leroux? ......... Leroux? ............. Leroux?

On another note, some of the players toured the Sahlen meat packing plant during this pre-season. I see it as a good sign; I don't think they did so last year and look what happened!

I think Syd was supposed to be at practice today.

ETA: Devo confirmed that Syd was at today's training.

Excellent, now if only Ellis lets us keep her for opening day on May 2, thongs may be looking up!

I certainly hope so. And I hope the Breakers and the Red Stars get the same courtesy, since they also only have two games before that weekend. It really wouldn't be fair for us and them to only have two games with their NT players while other teams get three.

WNY has maybe the youngest team this year, but we have senior NT experience outside of Leroux (33) and Engen (24). Taylor had 2 senior team caps; Stewart 44 with Canada; Njoya 25 with Cameroon; Kur 5 with Denmark; and Mewis 3 with the US.

Even though that was the worst loss this club has ever had, I still have faith in Coach Kiwi and I believe that things can only get better from here. We started out 2013 in last place and look where we ended up.

I hope Naimo and Lines get on the phone today and do some constructive analysis. Sometimes I think Lines is too isolated - Naimo should be his sounding board. This was a tough opener - Seattle, the team that won a boatload of games last year started 10 players who played together last year - and some very good players at that. WNY started 2. Things will get better for the Flash.

Well if you speak to most people who watched all games this weekend, they will tell you of all the teams that lost, WNY has the most upside. And if these other teams (BOS and WASH) specifically do not improve, WNY will have a great shot of over taken them.

Most people have espoused how good D'Angelo was so I'm not going to say much. I was also impressed with Hinkle who basically shut down Reed/Mathias. For a rookie that was impressive.

I think the mistake the Flash made was not to play their own game (whatever that is). Maybe the Leroux factor was clouding everyone's judgement and they thought if they just boot the ball to Leroux she will do her thing. That worked for like 3 minutes and than the Reign was onto that and Leroux was invisible for the rest of the match. If I was Lines I would have approach this game and told my team to play their game no matter the outcome. They did show glimpses of what that could be wish led to the first goal. So hopefully they can build on that.
Any idea why Lynn Williams didn't start? Is it the opinion that she would be starting if not for Leroux?

You picked up that they weren't playing their game - I totally agree- I watched all 3 pre-season games - losing Brooks and jamming in Leroux , both less than a week before the first game, upset the apple cart. Dahlkemper had zero time as D-mid in a game with this team. Kur played forward, not midfield. Williams was at Pepperdine - she has been since after the first pre-season game. It was right to start Jaz. Graduation is May 2 - Williams might have flown in for the game - she wasn't in any of the Twitter/Instagram pics I saw. She may not be back in NY now. Yes she will start when Syd is not there.
In a two forward formation, the forwards need to be a team, each enhancing the other. That takes some time - Jaz and Syd had, like, 2 days. Next week will be better.

Well, those are smart comments. I thought WNY's attack was a disaster, but your comments put it in perspective. They should get better.

I stand by the conclusions I made above, however there are two facts that were wrong. I did not see the last preseason game at Penn State. And Dahlkemper did play D-mid in the last preseason game vs Penn State and in the second half vs Syracuse. Nonetheless, she appears to be far less comfortable as D-mid, than as CB. The Leroux trade was announced 3 days after the SU game. Did Lines know the deal was done before the game ? Maybe.

It looks like the team is staying on the West Coast for the week. Smart move IMO. It'll save on the wear and tear of traveling back and forth.

I suspect the coffee, restaurant, and brew pub life is a little better in the Seattle/Portland areas of the Pacific Northwest than back at home, too. I've also heard that players like it on the road as the club covers more of their day to day living expenses. Plus, it's probably less costly to put up the players here than fly them back to WNY and then back out here and then back to WNY once again. And, although it's been rainy and chilly (by our standards) for a couple of days, we have great weather coming for the rest of the week, possibly up around 75 degrees by the weekend.

Any word on where WNY is practicing?

The cost is definitely a factor. I remember a couple years ago when the Flash had to play 4 games in 10 days on the road and the club had the option of flying them back home after game 2, but decided it would be better to go straight to Seattle from KC instead of detouring to Buffalo. With how expensive flights are, lodging and meals and whatnot have to be cheaper.

Was it really an option to fly back though?

Yes. Lines said during an interview that year that the organization had considered flying back to Buffalo after they played KC, but thought it would be more prudent to stay on the road the entire time.

If that's the field I think it is, it's grass. But, maybe they have a turf field too although if so I don't think I've ever seen it. In any event, the ladies get to experience the Nike campus, "behind the berm" as we say here in PDX. It's a sports shoe company's equivalent of Disneyland. Great place, and hosts many great events including the WNY practice.

Plus, it is an absolutely gorgeous day today in PDX and will be tomorrow. There are supposed to be a few clouds on Saturday, high of 73 degrees. Perfect soccer weather. Oh how I want to be young again, running around on a field kicking a ball!

They have 1 turf field, too. And the picture she posted on instragram appears to be of an artificial turf field.

I should have known you would know. Thanks.

The WNY ladies are being treated to some really great weather, as I posted previously. My emphasizing it may seem odd, but for those who have lived in the PNW for a while, a great spate of weather in mid-April is considered pretty fantastic.

I'm hoping for a good crowd at the game on Saturday. The attendance # will be interesting.

Flash's offfense looked un- coordinated vs. Seattle. I want therm to run a jail break every time they get the ball. move the ball to the goal as fast as possible. don't screw around with 'pretty' soocer. building from the back is oaverated. get the bail to th most dangerous players as fast as you can I watched the Dash-Boston game yesterday - MacDonaald gave Boston a hard time; both Williams and Leroux are as dangerous as MacDonald is.... I w ant to see Jaz go right at Cat Whiteilll and juke her out of her boots, ...oh, wait....as far as players who will be on the field go, PAthman &barczuk would not be able to stand up to an onslaughtt of raw speed
