@Auriaprottu posted something in the TFMS thread saying that we needed a thread on the topic. When I saw this opinion piece on the NY Times I thought about posting it on the same thread but decided it is better if we have a separate discussion on guns and leave the TFMS for the real stuff... http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/19/o...contentCollection=Most Emailed&pgtype=article Earlier this month — right between Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day — Senator John Cornyn of Texas introduced a bill that would allow people from states with lax gun laws to carry their concealed weapons all around the country. The goal, Cornyn said in a press release, is to treat local gun permits “like drivers’ licenses.” “This operates more or less like a driver’s license,” he told a reporter for The Hill. “So, for example, if you have a driver’s license in Texas, you can drive in New York, in Utah, and other places subject to the laws in those states.” Thoughts?
Sure, but the part "subject to that states laws" would mean the license is useless if the state says it is illegal.
BUT STATE'S RIGHTS! Some party used to be for that. Gunnutz were up in arms over this Philly woman who got busted in AC because she "forgot" she was carrying. After a review by the state attorney general, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday that it would allow a Philadelphia woman charged last year with illegally bringing into New Jersey a gun that was legally registered in Pennsylvania to enter a pretrial-intervention program and avoid jail time. The prosecutor's previous stance in the case involving Shaneen Allen, 27, was to make the case a "deterrent," either forcing a plea or bringing it to trial. The mother of two could have faced up to five years in prison. Read more at http://www.philly.com/philly/news/l...on_for_Shaneen_Allen.html#Zm9mLh5SyrGWBS51.99
Pennsylvaniacs have been getting themselves arrested in NJ for decades, while driving to the ocean with their legal-in-PA handguns. Most got pre-trial diversion or probation. However, since NJ's blanket upgrade of its handgun law to a second-degree crime, they now face mandatory prison, along with thugs caught prowling with unregistered guns. There should have been a distinction, but that nuance escaped the lawmakers.
I dunno. "Law abiding citizen" goes out the window when a road rage accident occurs on Rte 35 or outside a nightclub. Then all those PA guns are a danger to New Jerseyans. It's not the burden of the state to inform you of all its various gun regulations. Plaxico Burres is the poster child for "don't bring guns to jurisdictions that REALLY REALLY don't want them there."
In most cases, the tourist got pulled over for speeding and the gun was either visible or mentioned by the driver.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse. You could be hauling tons of fireworks from PA to LBI for July 4th. If you get stopped with them and get a huge fine, am I supposed to give 2 shits? More revenue from our neighbors.

I know it's wrong to laugh, but hey, she did have the gun. Won't learn. Can't learn. I wanna see the Second Amendment bring a child back from the dead one day, lol.
The Onion couldn't write this any better: http://concealedcarryacademy.com/gs/ Apparently, non-residents of VA can obtain carry permits there: http://law.justia.com/codes/virginia/2006/toc1802000/18.2-308.html "P1. Nonresidents of the Commonwealth 21 years of age or older may apply in writing to the Virginia Department of State Police for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun. Every applicant for a nonresident concealed handgun permit shall submit two photographs of a type and kind specified by the Department of State Police for inclusion on the permit and shall submit fingerprints on a card provided by the Department of State Police for the purpose of obtaining the applicant's state or national criminal history record. As a condition for issuance of a concealed handgun permit, the applicant shall submit to fingerprinting by his local or state law-enforcement agency and provide personal descriptive information to be forwarded with the fingerprints through the Central Criminal Records Exchange to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the purpose of obtaining criminal history record information regarding the applicant and obtaining fingerprint identification information from federal records pursuant to criminal investigations by state and local law-enforcement agencies. The application shall be made under oath before a notary or other person qualified to take oaths on a form provided by the Department of State Police, requiring only that information necessary to determine eligibility for the permit. If the permittee is later found by the Department of State Police to be disqualified, the permit shall be revoked and the person shall return the permit after being so notified by the Department of State Police."
What, you are presumptuous enough to argue a matter of God's will? This child didn't die-- because his mom was a Real American, and her God took care of her child...
Huh, so by extension should people from Colorado and Washington be able to legally take their weed into other states? I'm sure the good Texas senator will get right on that.
I wonder if red meat (a staple in shitholes like Texas, and on my own plate) is more dangerous than weed. They really need to quit pretending it isn't widely used.
'Murica! Where a legally blind felon can still get a gun to shot a todler! http://www.toledoblade.com/Police-F...oddler-s-shooting.html#dAJxMTXA7l2y6RiZ.99How
Doesn't seem like he got it legally: "arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on charges of possessing weapons while under disability" Although, it has happened elsewhere: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/09/08/iowa-grants-gun-permits-to-the-blind/2780303/ "No one questions the legality of the permits. State law does not allow sheriffs to deny an Iowan the right to carry a weapon based on physical ability."
From what I read in some other website, he could have obtained the weapon almost anywhere in Ohio under similar premises, no one can question if he is fit to obtain a gun.
I agree, blind people should have less rights, I mean don't let them drive or carry weapons. Even walking down the street, it just slow downs walking traffic.
What about felons'rights? “About a year ago, my office and others warned Sen. Kurt Schafer and the Missouri General Assembly that a then-proposed Constitutional Amendment could raise new, deadly concerns for law-abiding citizens. Now, I’m disheartened to see that those warnings may be coming true... Everyone should agree that more guns in the hands of more criminals will only equal more violence. If prosecutors lose the ability to prosecute felons in possession of firearms, more gang members, drug dealers and domestic abusers — the persons responsible for most of the shootings in our communities — will be allowed to carry guns.” Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/opinion/o...abouhalkah/article11393720.html#storylink=cpy
The NRA continues being as classy as it's been the last 20 years or more (giving the benefit of the doubt that they once actually stood for something besides making sure gun makers could sell guns to everyone everywhere no matter what) http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...n_twitter_the_national_rifle_association.html
I was going to post it in the New Media thread, but you beat me to it. Classy people pouring in their deep thoughts: http://freakoutnation.com/2015/03/a...death-threats-against-gabby-giffords-pour-in/ Not to mention the paranoid wing of the GOP NRA...
I guess that explains why the GOP tried to defund DHS, to stop FEMA from amassing their trucks and body-bags at all the red state borders. Luna-********ing-tics
