The 2014 World Cup really affected the rankings. Australia and South Korea are ranked too low, and Uzbekistan, Jordan, Oman and UAE too high.
The rankings tends to do that given timing differences of major tournements etc.. The Asian Cup will put most countries back to where they belong (I would expect)
October ranking: 51 Iran -7 52 Japan -4 65 Uzbekistan -7 66 South Korea -3 74 Jordan -5 79 UAE -6 81 Iraq +9 83 Oman -7 88 China +9 88 Qatar +8 http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/index.html#
Pretty ridiculous how Australia is not even in the top 10 in AFC. Especially since they were one of the World Cup teams. FIFA ranking is a joke.
North Korea was a World Cup team as well in 2010, stil doesn't mean they deserved to be in the top 10 Australia couldn't even beat Qatar or UAE last month so I think it's not totally unfair.
Yea, FIFA has been way too generous to the aussies, with the way you're playing you should've hit 3 digits by now.
Not playing any Asian Cup qualifiers has had some effect on Australia's ranking I suppose, although the same applies to Japan and South Korea in that respect.
Lack of wins. We beat the Saudis but didn't win for about a year prior... And then 0-0 and 0-1 against UAE and Qatar

brah UAE's record with the current manager is 21W-8D-4L. They've only lost to Japan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia since he took over and they've had some very worthy opponents lately, including Paraguay, Norway and Australia all of which they shut out in 0-0 ties. That's why I consider them Qatar's biggest rival for the 1st place in group stage.
Yes i agree uae is an amazing team most of their victories recently have come against the likes of honk kong, vietnam, and yemen. But dont be silly bahrain is definitely qatar's biggest rival for 1st place. Also I think Palestine is your biggest rival for the championship.
Well done to UAE for getting dominated and producing scoreless draws with Paraguay, Norway and Australia. ...No, i'm not going to praise the same team that is weak enough to lose 3-1 to Lebanon. And then play shit teams to improve their record for this year.
Accoursing to calculations Iraq will make 20 jump in ranking and we will be ranked 8th in Asia which will grantee pot A seeding in WC qualifications.
and UAE... all teams will have a chance to improve their fifa rankings with a fifa friendly date in March.. April-15 rankings will be used to seed round 1 qualification..
