I have no idea. I just want to win the Playoff. Then figure out who the manager will be. Then talk about the over age -23 players.

    Who do we play against?

We cant use 3 over 23 players for that?

I wonder if we will have U23 friendlies like Mexico did last time around

3rd Place of the CONCACAF U23 Tournament in October will be our opponent.

We can't use over age players for that.

We should play friendlies just like Mexico did, but who knows? This is really new territory for our federation.

As far as I know, because this isn't a senior tournament, clubs do have the right to disallow their players regardless of age. Happened to Messi who had to talk to the board and Chicharito wasn't allowed by Man United.

    This is true.

It will be interesting to see which managers allow which players to go.

Tabarez took helm of the sub 23 in the last Olympics. Dunga and Menezes did the same for Brazil in the previous 2 editions, although Brazil didn't have to go through the qualifiers for 2014 so Mano had nothing better to do. Bielsa won the 2004 tournament while also coaching the senior squad.

Nothing set in stone. The Centenario puts things in doubt. Sure, that takes place in June while the Olympics will be in August, but how will that effect the Qualifiers? Typically the Fifa dates were in June--now what?

What might be interesting is if Pekerman decides to use practically the same squad for both tournaments. Doubt it, but who knows?

It's impossible to tell as of now. The only thing I know is Pekerman is a true professional and doesn't go about any of his responsibilities half-assed. Those are three major tournaments going on in close proximity. Tons of work and, potentially, 3 different squads to worry about. Put Pekerman in charge of the sub 23 and I'd put my money on Colombia winning the whole thing. The priority in his eyes, no doubt, will be the qualifiers and the senior squad, though.

Totally agree with Azucarero. It's way too early to know, but if you ask me, the qualifiers and the Copa America should come first. We have enough talented players to cover them for the olympics, surely in the playoff, but I think that the senior missions come first and that's the way it should be. Of course it would be great to see an U-23 team mixed with 3 seniors and after we'll finish to take the Copa, we'll move into the Olympics ;)

That's what I am saying use the 3 over 23 players as 2nd stringers that should start for the NT but don't yet.

Like Jackson if he can replicate his Porto form in Yellow at the Olympics that would be awesome if not then never call him up again. Vargas or Cuadrado at goal. Then who ever our 3rd CB is at the time to lead the defense.

I mean I'd love to win both Copa Americas and the Olympics. I prefer Copa America Chile to go to the confederations cup and the gold medal in Brazil personally. The 100th edition Copa America will most likely not be taken too seriously by South American teams

I doubt Porto (or whoever he plays for next summer) would release Jackson for the Olympics and the Copa America Centenario.
Would probably have a better chance of calling up someone like Fredy Montero.

    Yup.
Hence, I said I doubt Jackson will be allowed to go for two tournaments that summer. Assuming he does get called up for Centenario.
    So many variables to consider.

Any kids in Colombia we are missing? Maybe some 21 year olds who were not given any chance in these last two sub 20s?

Oswal Alvarez and Juan Jose Navarez should have some consideration if their Euro clubs allow them to leave.

I expect a few kids will pop up who slipped through the cracks.

Carbonero seemingly came out of nowhere. Izquierdo hardly played any role at all with the '91 generation. Cuellar became a beast not too long after getting left out of that mundial squad. Mojica, too. Not that any of these guys qualify for the Olympics, but it's becoming more and more common for kids to emerge and succeed without having any sub 20 or sub 17 credentials on their resumes.

    Just saw the highlights. Damn...

Since 2007-2009 I'd become pretty disillusioned by the amount of talented kids who'd start tearing up the Liga just months after embarrassing displays from Colombia in the Sudamericano. Kids like Montero, Mejia, Cuadrado, Vladimir Hernandez would go on to be top players in FPC and never got a look at from Lara or whichever other federation clown.

It's worrisome. Who knows where some of those kids might be had they have gotten that extra bit of exposure? Who knows what those teams may have accomplished with a couple better players? I mean, look at the difference 3 kids (James, Muriel, and Murillo) made for Colombia in 2011.

Nowadays, even though there're glaring omissions like the kids you've mentioned, the sheer amount of talent produced across the country makes it almost impossible to catch every kid. I still find the selecciones juveniles to be extremely important, especially for our country, but at least it's not the end all be all for a kids career anymore.

Brazil don't give a damn about these categories anymore. They don't need to. Perhaps we on't need to either one day, but that can be both good and bad.

    True

Pekerman not only ,are these guys better but I think he changed the pessimistic mentality of most Colombians. The shirts weighed less for the players to perform better

Castillo, Pardo, Mendoza and Mojica are too old for the Olympics. I mean I suppose they can be considered for the three over-age players but you can only take three of those.
