I remember reading that some Brazilians were buying Phoenix FC and I found this tweet interesting that says it was the new owners of Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.

Any Strikers fans with any comments regarding the new SKC player James Marcelin? We signed him for depth at the DMid position ... just didn't know what type of player he was with the Strikers last season.

He was a defensive mainstay for us all year. Mostly played defensive mid, but had to step into center back a few times due to injuries as well. He was very solid and should be a decent back up for you guys.

Thanks ... sounds like the guy he is replacing (Lawrence Olum) who we pulled out of USL (Orlando). Wish he wasn't an "international" though.

Strikers Announce Soccer Director and GM

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers announced Tuesday the appointment of Andre Chaves as soccer director and Amaury Nunes as general manager.
“This is a big step forward for us toward our goal of winning the 2015 NASL Championship,” managing partner Ricardo Geromel said. “Andre and Amaury have first-hand playing experience as well as exceptional knowledge of what it takes to put together a Championship-winning roster.”

Strikers minority owner Ronaldo says he wants to play for club

It could be a ploy for attention or it could be for real, but Brazilian legend Ronaldo has said he is hoping to lace his cleats up again for his new club.

Ronaldo To Continue Strikers History In Ownership Role

Strikers managing partner Ricardo Geromel sees the continued growth in the NASL, and Ronaldo is another piece to the equation. However, Geromel believes it can go even further.
“Soccer is already a reality in the U.S., and it has reached a tipping point that there is no way back. The future of soccer in the U.S., the real growth, will be in the NASL,” he said.
The Brazilian legend follows a long line of other soccer greats in the Strikers history. George Best, Gordon Banks, Gerd Müller and Teófilo Cubillas have all been a part of the Strikers past.

The Strikers had a meet & greet at Metropica in Sunrise, FL for Ronaldo & the new coach of the Strikers. It started poorly when word filtered out that no coach or announcement would be forthcoming. Not good. Then, after an hour and a half after the advertised start time it was announce the Ronaldo would not be there either. The crowd was not pleased, but they at least got free tickets to a Striker game if they wished to attend (there was a quiet rumor of free season tickets being given out, but I hope it is understood how stupid that would be).

There is a bigger meet and greet at Lockhart tonight - with a $25 dollar admission fee to all but season ticket holders (we get in free) with a free ticket to the opening game included in the price - where Ronaldo is supposed to attend for autographs, pictures, etc. I've been assured he'll be to this one. I hope so. I'd hate to think he's here just to spend his time at the poker tables at The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood with the Strikers only something to interrupt his fun.

The Strikers aren't afraid to meet their challengers head to head, though. Along with the Cosmos and potentially more teams like them, they hope their success can put pressure on U.S. Soccer to open up the pyramid. Alternately, they dream of a day when NASL, with its lack of salary restrictions, could surpass MLS in quality. To all comers, and especially to Beckham and his crew, they merely want the right to settle things on the field

    Neveleff To Lead Strikers

“Marcelo has been in South Florida for the past 25 years, so he knows the soccer landscape and has helped develop some of the elite players in the region,” soccer director Andre Chaves said. “He brings a lot of experience to the position, and we are all very excited to have him here.”
Neveleff has held head coaching positions in Bolivia with Wilstermann and Aurora, leading the former to an appearance in the 2011 Copa Libertadores. He was the assistant coach for Miami FC in 2010.

NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson and his predecessor David Downs both did an excellent job of finding high-level owners for existing teams that needed more investment and transitioning those clubs forward. The success of the NASL’s approach in finding local owners that are well-connected in the community and politically is completely different than what we are witnessing in Fort Lauderdale.

Neveleff has a proven track record of developing players. He holds USSF National "A" and Youth Licenses and has a degree in physical education. His coaching background includes stints on technical staffs of teams across Florida and South America. Neveleff was recognized as US Soccer’s Academy Coach of the Year in 2010-11 with Weston FC.

Bill has a point that I support. NASL is a dead man walking. MLS Miami is a dead man walking. Neither should be the case. It's a conspiracy of delusions. And I doubt the current owners can reconcile themselves to USL. And I doubt MLS can reconcile itself to Fort Lauderdale, as long as The Don is in charge. It does not look good. I thought Tim Robbie was on board with rejecting past delusions to protect the legacy, but he seems to be fine with past delusions, and taking the legacy down with it. Either that, or he just can't afford to save it.
