Wow. Necropost. 'best ice cream shops' isn't a very accurate description. All you need to do it nominate a place and they add it to the list. Ohio has well over 50 entries. What's the point of that? We are very, very serious about ice cream in Columbus.
The best ice cream I've ever had is Berthillon ice cream in Paris. Doesn't matter what flavor you get. It will change your life.
I've had Jeni's Splendid at Chagrin Falls. I understand it's their only location outside of C-bus. A few doors down from Jeni's is another awesome ice cream place - the Popcorn Shop, located above an actual waterfall. Cleveland has awesome ice cream joints. And I was blissfully unaware that the Cleveland area has about a hundred waterfalls. Who knew.
Actually, Jeni's has recently expanded into Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago and Charleston. I think they may be opening a shop in LA, as well.
well, there's vivoli in florence too. don't get me wrong, these are both awesome, worlds better than b&j or b&r, but there are little producers even better. i remember one in vezelay that ruined my vacation one year when i found out they'd gone out of business... something that will never happen to berthillon obviously - the île st. louis in the last 30 years has gone from a village in the center of paris to disneyland-sur-seine. my latest discovery has been terre adélice in lyon, and my new favorite flavor? geranium. tdf. tkf! whenever in SF i make sure to have an it's-it. completely different obviously... basically for auld lang syne.
Getting to this late, but there are two Chicago Jeni's locations, both in extremely hipster neighborhoods. I guess hipsters can afford to spring for $12 a pint.
Lat time I remember it was $9/pint ..... still expensive. Jeni's voluntarily halted production and sales after they discovered listeria in their Columbus plant a couple of months ago. Then last week, they shut it down for a second time again due to listeria. Really tough. I liked them when they were the little guy. Really couldn't blame them for expanding their footprint nationwide. But perhaps the grand ambitions may be about biting off more than they can chew Bought Jeni's cookbook a couple of years ago and have been making homemade ice cream since. Picking berries in the morning and making and having ice cream that same afternoon is such a delight and great experience for the kids. That's what summer is about

I like gelato marron glace flavour or white chocolate flavour. I tried gelato in Italy which was the best ice cream I have ever had.
