It wasn't that special the year Cris Vaccaro scored SIX goals (when there was no three-line violation).

The trick was always to throw the ball into the goal while getting it to bounce before the yellow line.

I don't have a big preference either way, but I think play is more attractive when the ball stays on the carpet and under control. In the original MISL the ball was rarely bouncing out of control. No one was making wild 170 foot passes in the air.

So let me get this straight. Because of the internal political lines drawn over which scoring system to use, the most successful clubs should not be highlighted on the "Game of the Week" package (AT HOME)???? This makes absolutely no sense at all. The BLAST is the most successful team on and off the field over the last 10 years. The Baltimore Arena has seated more indoor fans during that time, so tell me how does you plan make sense. Over the last few seasons, Rochester has led the league in attendance. How does you plan make sense?

Hundreds of thousands of fans paid good money each year to watch MPS. More than any other indoor league. Therefore, the debate is settled. Now, you may prefer SPS, and I respect that, but in a democray, you would be on the losing side.

If this ESPN3 deal comes to fruition, teams like BALTIMORE, Rochester, ST Louis, KC, Dallas, San Diego*, Milwaukee*, and Seattle should be showcased. If stablizing the MASL is somewhere on the agenda, than putting an accent on your markee teams is the only way to go. Case in point is the NFL. That league ALWAYS find ways to get Dallas, Washington, New England, Manning, Pittsburgh, Green Bay on its national games. Even when those teams are having down years. It's called good business for the majority of your customers.

Having four teams using a different scoring than the other nineteen is a league embarrasment and should not be promoted. Showcase the Blast, Heat, Knights and Lancers on road games only...and if those teams don't like it, tell them to conform.

That would require both backbone and consistant leadership on the part of the Commisioner.

when it come to this subject...this will screw up the player scoring leader list and of course the stat keeper for the masl will have to put further time to do so

Seattle? How did an expansion club which has never played a single game suddenly join the elite of arena soccer?

So I am currently watching replay of last nights USA-Mexico game and can say I am very happy with the feed they used. I had never heard of golivesportscast.com before now, but it seems to be very good. I have yet to see lag or any kind of issues. The announcers are very good, and the crowd is amazing.

Hopefully more of this is to come and MASL will surprise a lot of people. My only complaints or criticism would be:

    - need to add game clock
    - need to show replays quickly

The game itself has been amazing so far, I am currently at half time and it has been a fantastic game as far as excitement goes. Some nice stuff too, kinda like an all-star game.

It would be more of an "embarrassment" to have the game of the week be the Baltimore Blast playing at the Detroit Waza in front of a crowd of a couple hundred people rather than showcasing the Detroit Waza at the Baltimore Blast in front of thousands of fans. Just think about it from that perspective.

Also, it looks like GoLiveSportsCast will at least be covering games for Baltimore Blast, Brownsville Barracudas, Dallas Sidekicks, Detroit Waza, and S.D. Sockers, as they have their broadcast schedules listed on that site. The thing I don't get is on Detroit's page it says, "THE DETROIT WAZA IS THE HOME TEAM OF GO LIVE SPORTS CAST." What exactly does that mean?

Sound business logic has no place in these thread discussions. Now stop that! :D

Well...their 2nd broadcast has started with "technical difficulties" and the game will be joined in progress when it's fixed.

They are 1 for 2 so far, that's .500, pretty good for indoor soccer.

I got news for you a more realistic scenario is what you saw today from Ontario. Horrible camera angles, low resolution video due to low band width, and technical problem all over the place because the people running the arena side of the feed are either un paid. low paid or completely clueless of anything IT/Production. The exceptions will be Detroit, Some ex-MISL teams (Comets and Wave always do a fantastic job), Dallas and San Diego.

I tried to tell people this same thing when all of this first came out. Your viewing experience is going to be totally based upon the skills and money spent on the local end to provide the video.

I have openly and publicly spoken the truth about the lack of leadership shown by the MASL front office, and openly lambasted the poor decisions that have come repeatedly one after the other since we let our former MISL brothers move into the house.

Having said all of that, I am glad to see the ESPN3 deal is now official. Yes, it is "internet only." Yes, it will be a rebroadcast of locally produced games (which means get ready for lots of Dallas Sidekicks' games). It is my most sincere wish that Baltimore and Rochester are featured when they travel to Central or Pacific Division opponents (and ONLY when they travel to face Central or Pacific opponents).

If I am going to criticize Kevin Milliken when he makes mistakes or fails to do what he knows is the right thing, I need to praise him when does get something right.

Congratulations, MASL. It's a step in the right direction. I hope it gains us positive attention this season.

Hopefully when/if they broadcast games they will show MPS by the onscreen score display to make it clear to fans watching. No need to display it for SPS as it'll be the majority of games one would think and the historically correct scoring system. Displaying MPS will also help flag it for me so I can turn it off quicker before wasting my time.

You know, I was going to laugh at this. Then I realized that Tommy may use the number of views as "See! Even the people who AREN'T coming to the games think MPS is better!"

The only thing dumber than the teams playing MPS this year while everyone else plays SPS are the people who won't watch games simply because they use MPS...

Your opinion, thats fine, my opinion is it makes a farce of the game and is ridiculous.
A goal is 1 point period in soccer whether indoor or outdoor.

Has anyone considered playing SPS and MPS games simultaneously?

You just keep two scores. One is single-point, one is multipoint.

    So here's a hypothetical Baltimore-Dallas game:

BAL: 3 goals inside the arc, 1 outside
DAL: 2 goals inside the arc, 2 outside

So in SPS, it's 4-4. In MPS, it's 10-7 Dallas.

Dallas wins the MPS game, and they go to overtime to decide the SPS game.

And that way, they'll end up counting 40-some games in the standings.

And it'll be a breeze for everyone to follow!

The MPS score would be 10-9 Dallas.

Not the breeze it would seem to be at first blush.
