Maybe he just didn't like Columbus. I can't blame him for that. Not a good team, not an attractive place to live.

That's because you're taking this personally as a Crew fan. This isn't different than other negotiations around the globe. Why is it perfectly fine in the eyes of some fans for MLS to reject deals as a business ideal, but a player can't do the same?

Hell, your team just rejected two bids for Gonzalez and IMO, they were good offers, the second of which rumored to be 4.5M.

    It's just business.

Clearly you have never been to Columbus. Secondly, we had a deal done until his dad came in last minute to hijack it. I can guarantee you that he won't find another team willing to pay him 2.5x what he is making now. Plus this is the 2nd time now he has done something like this to an MLS team. Just poor form for a guy like him. I won't even go down the Gonzalez rabbit hole with you.

And for the sake of this thread I won't be responding to any further comments on this topic. Guaranteed to spiral into nothingness.

Yes, I have been there. It ain't NY or SF, where I've lived. More importantly, to a guy coming from Europe, there's many more attractive destinations, and that's not an insult. It's reality. Or link me to all the bigger name Euro DP's waiting for a chance to move to Columbus.

Second, there's a habit around here lately since the Clint transfer to think players should just chase the money. It's not about simply chasing the money for many players. The offer is only one aspect, as are coaching, fan support, roster quality and tactics/formations.

Third, it's not a done deal until he signs. Doesn't sound like he signed to me.

Fourth, you need to research the Portland situation. One, they didn't offer DP money. Two, Mix wanted the ability to move back to Europe and didn't want that ability hinging on MLS HQ rather than the team. He came out and said he doesn't want to be owned by a league. Quotes are in this thread. And, that makes sense.

And fifth, when your team doesn't sell Gonzalez when he gets two good bids after a good WC, that probably made Mix seriously question his ability to go back to Europe if he wanted.

In general, I think personal beef with Mix from an MLS fan perspective should be kept in the Crew forum, not in his YA thread. Out of respect. Last thing we need is Crew fans coming over here with a personal agenda as Mix has been IMO and likely the opinions of others, the most valuable poster around here and we're honored an actual USNTer regularly stops by to converse with us.

Over here, he's still a YA who turned down a deal. MLS perspective actually is off topic.

It def. isn't about money with Mix. If I remember correctly, he made sure to give up salary while in Belgium if the US had qualified to play London for the Olympics. He was that committed and money didn't mean a thing as much as the experience would.

I am probably fudging it up some, but I remember him making sure money was not something that was going to stop him from fulfilling a dream of playing in the olympics. It's more than that to him.

As far as his game goes, Columbus would be a lateral move. The money is his business. Would've been fun having him stateside, though.

Also I think that is incredibly poor form by Anthony Precourt. IDK his exact role, but you don't take to twitter and more or less blame the other side when a deal goes sour. Petty as hell.

I think you are underrating MLS and overrating the Norwegian league and Mix. Mix hasn't done much of note with his clubs in recent seasons.

Wish you hadn't responded to anything. Surprised you had time for the first one with all of the cosmopolitan happenings of Columbus.

Cheer up, Pep. You still get to host US v Mex every 4 years. For now.

I am rating Columbus Crew and Rosenborg about the same, which is probably being way too charitable ... to the Crew.

This is YA. Crapping on MLS, making fun of MLS cities etc is just par for the course here. It is best to just try and ignore the ignorance and try to find the nuggets of information. Opinion here is almost useless because of the bias.

It is what it is. Not worth fighting. People who hate MLS and want to see it fail are never going to change their minds.

until MLS allows its players more rights (refusing a trade for instance) these kinds of instances will happen. MLS is the only league in the world where a player can sign with one team and then be forced to play for another without his consent. This doesn't happen anywhere else. Soccer is not baseball.

No, but he gets $700K-$800K, which is not all that high for a starter in the Netherlands or a sub in Germany, then the differences in the long run are going to be negligible.

And this is just bullshit. Unless you were in the negotiating room with the attorneys present.

Crew might have 2-3 players that can start for R-borg but it's not a very good team even by MLS standards.

Plus, anyone with options would have to want to live in Columbus.

    Hey,

    Cool down guys.

I feel like communicating a little with the original posters. The ones that have kept track and kept this string alive, and motivated me early on.
Have now read the last few pages. Need to run now, but will be back min some hours with a post, if no one makes any posts in the meantime. Ok?

Until then – try to read this:

These attacks against invisible posters probably don't belong in Mix's YA thread.

How about some respect for the guy?

    Hi folks.

The YA vs MLS stuff is done. Discuss the deal or the failure of it without any further assumptions about why a Crew fan would think one way and a YA poster would think another.

And if your post is missing it might be because it contained the word "butthurt".

I don't really know about this, seems pretty dire. I mean the guy's contract is up Jan 1 and he can move anywhere he can go during the Winter window. For all we know any current negotiations could be for where he signs in the Winter.

Plus, he's done pretty well up to this point by playing in Norway, I don't see how another 4 months of playing there is going to vastly affect his National Team aspects.

Last week I got to talk to both Gregg Berhalter and Anthony Precourt.
I like them both. I think they like me. I do not think Columbus could ask for a more dedicated coach, or have a coach with more dedication in creating a playing style that will be recognizable and with a unique stamp of "Columbus Crew". I believe that Anthony Precourt patiently will see to that – because he is that type of guy, I think.

Grant Wahl has made some erroneous statements – making some people look very bad. He says his source is rumors. And that is of course one way to cover a lie, or to press people to give you information you are not entitled to by asking them for clarification – which a journalist of course in turn may use only parts and portions of. In my book – I would give Grant Wahl a straight red card – and with three weeks total suspension.
I have had a lawyer representing me and having had him as the one who has kept communication between Gregg, MLS, Rosenborg, and all others I have had obligations to in this matter. He has assured me that he has not at all done any of what Grant Wahl accuses my father of. My father has not been negotiating between Rosenborg and Columbus/MLS.

The lawyer has, of course, gone through what I am writing here, in this perticular post.
I am a Mix between US american and Norwegian. I was supposed to be raised equally in the two con tries. Plan was grade school in Norway and high school and college in the US. Because I developed so well at my football clubs in Norway, I pushed High school to college, and when my Stabæk coach begged me to go pro instead of enrolling in a US college – I made a coin flip where my parents were present. It landed on tails – and I signed for Stabæk.
Therefore, I have an urge to, at one point, to live, breathe and evolve as an american person in the united states. Some people say in social media that I would never go to Ohio. I ask them, why not? Isn't Ohio the most perfect example what the US really is all about. When the democratic part of the USA votes, isn't Ohio what exemplifies best what US values is? Why wouldn't Columbus have given me a faster and better understanding of what the USA past, present, right to left, is all about.

What I can tell everybody – is that the best day in my life I had in Ohio. The fans when we finally qualified for the World Cup were the best fans I have ever played for. I guess a lot of them were from Ohio. They lifted us immensely. You have no idea what that means and meant. The supporters of Columbus Crew might not be the biggest by shire numbers – but please go check what they write, and how they critique. Are they not the most cunning of all the MLS supporters - as we speak?

I do not know if I end up in Rosenborg, American football ;) , Europe, or in a really exotic place during the next 5-7 years.
But I do know that I am lucky and happy either way.
What i am most committed to right now is long term to be a part of Ussoccer in the years ahead and short term try to make Rosenborg advance tonight.

I've been going back and forth whether I should post this, but to be blunt, I find that it is one of the problems of Diskerud posting on here, it stifles critical and controversial debates about his club career. I've never seen a professional soccer player get involved in a fan (!) forum like this. Frankly, I think its highly unprofessional and wouldn't be tolerated at many German/bigger European clubs. Especially trying to direct the narrative on here and using it as a platform to attack a journalist that has posted something he/his lawyer don't like.

If he wants to have contact with the fans about his favourite burritos there's always the option of your own facebook or twitter page.
