Seltzer reported that he had interest from an Eredivisie club. Also last January Werder Bremen were interested it seems. Not saying he should head one place or another, but Mix has suitors I think.
I think this is inevitable (and a positive thing) as MLS get stronger. If a Yank has a GREAT offer from abroad, he should definitely consider it. But an offer from a mediocre team, even in a top league, is not so exciting anymore.
We've become Mexico. Our internationals can earn more here than all but the biggest clubs abroad. Unless a huge opportunity pops up, you are probably better off personally staying in MLS. Unlike Mexico, our league has the potential to transcend this stage eventually.
Mexico has a far greater ratio of net income to cost of living than the US and, with the exception of the very top players making over $4M/Y or so, even more than Europe. In any case, Mix should go to whatever MLS team lets him intern for a career in the entertainment industry, be it sports or just general bullshit type. His soccer career is merely a prelude to bigger and hairier things.
When did I say that? I said I would prefer that he go to a league that would help him develop better tactically. He did have interest from Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga at one point, who knows where he could garner interest from in the future.
I didn't say he couldn't move anywhere in the future, but he's slowly moving towards his mid-20s, and I doubt Columbus or any other MLS would sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal. If he is going to make a move to a better league, strictly from a tactical development standpoint, I think he needs to make that move within the next year. You seem like you want to put words in my mouth just for the sake of argument...
I didn't put words in your mouth. Just asking questions regarding your public opinions on this forum where we discuss opinions. God forbid. I don't know Mix's options are currently and if it's Werder Bremen vs Columbus, which it probably isn't, I'd like to see him give it a go at Bremen because that's a huge opportunity for elite competition. On the other hand, I like the guaranteed playing time and physicality that MLS would provide as I think reps and getting stronger are two key things for Mix. I don't know how much tactical development a 23 year old capable of learning and I don't know the relative advantages or disadvantages of his options other than my own opinions. All I do know is that if it's stay at Rosenborg, go to Celtic or a similar-level club or come to MLS, I prefer MLS because I like what Berhalter is doing in Columbus and I'd love to get to watch Mix play more.
Not really. People are just looking at the current situation(ie players 23-31), really the present generation who's either tried Europe and reached their level or have committed to MLS as MLS lifers. The next generation however has many prospects overseas. It's actually a bit insane how many 17-20 yr olds we have in foreign systems. As they mature and break through, YA will be busier than ever before. And when MLS starts developing more talent above a Graham Zusi level and younger(ie Yedlin), the interest and bids will follow. Some have to understand we're somewhat between generations. Omar/Besler/Zusi guys are somewhat limited in their options due to age and lack of upside at this point. Not nearly as much reason to go abroad as a Yedlin. And others, like Clint/Mike/Edu/Parky already did the Euro circuit. We're basically waiting on the next generation, and damn are a lot of them heading over and skipping MLS.
well we can officially agree that Mix's dad raised issues, because who are we to argue with Twellman? 497173862082416640 is not a valid tweet id
We'll see about Nagbe. This guy, always keeping us on our toes. I think we underestimated the proximity to factory-made tacos factor. I feel like dragging down Mix's dad in public is probably not going to be conducive to pulling out a last-minute deal. Apologies to the all-seeing, all-knowing Alexi Lalas. How could I ever have doubted you? Although it seems like Twellman is the even bigger ex-player source/gossip lately. Not that I'm complaining.
Makes you wonder what the "requests" were the dad made the screwed the deal? Kyle McCarthy (@kylejmccarthy) 8/6/14, 8:59 PM Cannot fault Columbus if Diskerud deal falls apart. Crew tabled lucrative offer to make him DP. #mls
I know the original poster ammended his comment to central attacking midfielders but even though he is a wide player Fagundez obviously has done well for his age. It really all starts with Fagundez, Yedlin and other like home grown players. Mistakenly blaming MLS for not developing college players better like Zusi misses the point. We won't know how well MLS will do developing young attacking players for a while now because the first generation of home grown players is just starting to come of age.
Really wanted Mix in Columbus. We gave it everything, so as disappointed as we are, we didn't leave anything on the table. #Crew96— Anthony Precourt (@APrecourt) August 7, 2014 Mix Diskerud is on $300+k in Norway and was offered in $1m/year range from @ColumbusCrew. Not sure I'm seeing the problem you?!— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) August 7, 2014
Must say I have always been a big Mix fan. Loved that he came in here and posted. However, after this saga he has certainly gone backwards in my book.
If he leaves Norway to go somewhere else in the next three weeks, that's fine. If he doesn't, his national team prospects and future career moves are in a lot of trouble.
