"Operating in a more advanced role, Hoffenheim II's Fabian Hürzeler has three goals in three October matches for a side that is struggling big time at home.
Now working as a box-raiding quasi-No. 10 attacker, Hürzeler started the month with a brace in a victory at Hessen Kassel. He buried a lane-filling header before finishing well off some nice two-man game. The next time out, he fired the late winner to go along with Joseph Gyau's insurance tally for a 2-0 win at Wormatia Worms."

Is he good enough for the US?

He's closer to be being good enough for the US than Germany.

New interview with Hurzeler. He reveals he has a third passport - with Switzerland (in addition to US and Germany). It's not clear where his current allegiances lie, but he says his favorite US city is Miami and he used to travel to US every year.

He is provisionally cap-tied to Germany. The need for a one-time switch has kept him from linking up with the US.

Okay, but he can still switch indefinately. Maybe Jurgen should make a few calls (if he hasn't already).

I really don't think you need to be worried about a 21 year old playing in the 4th division getting capped by Germany...

Julian Green is 3-4 years younger than Hurzeler.

At some point you're no longer a prospect and you "are what you are." Fabian's a 22 year old getting sporadic playing time in the German 4th division.

I see no harm in calling him up to one of these U21 pre-Olympic camps that we're not starting up. Why the hell not? I'm just not exactly sure why people have ever been so high on this kid. He's an example of folks being excited about a youth player only because he had "Bayern Munich" listed next to his name at one time. The amount of time people have actually seen him play must be absolutely minimal. He's not even playing at an MLS level, where we have central midfielders his age like Will Trapp excelling.

I guess but I think we have better options domestically, then again given that Tab calls Mexican 2nd division bench players up to our U-21's I can see your point.

Either way he would have to file a one time switch to actual play for our U-21/U-23 squad.

Has he done anything in the preseason to indicate he's anywhere near the first team?
