Pulling this over here from the other thread, since @It's called FOOTBALL apparently wants to continue the conversation here:
@It's called FOOTBALL Who made that table? It has Ecuador, who went out in the Group Stage, ahead of of two teams that advanced. If you use a 3-2-1 point system to rank USA, Mexico, and Costa Rica in World Cup performance, Hexagonal performance, Gold Cup 2013 performance, and FIFA Rankings: USA: 1 point from World Cup performance + 3 points from Hexagonal performance + 3 points from Gold Cup performance + 3 points from FIFA Rankings = 10 Costa Rica: 3 points from World Cup performance + 2 points from Hexagonal performance + 1 point from Gold Cup performance + 2 points from FIFA Rankings = 8 Mexico: 2 points from World Cup performance + 1 points from Hexagonal performance + 2 points from Gold Cup performance + 1 point from FIFA Rankings = 6 Mexico finished ahead of USA in arguably the most important measure, but also the only measure that did not include any CONCACAF vs. CONCACAF games. Note that FIFA's prize money treats all teams eliminated in the same round equally, so even though 9th place is closer to 8th place than to 16th place, 8th and 9th get different prize money while 9th and 16th get the same. Given what I posted, nobody is going to convince me that Mexico is the best team in CONCACAF until if and when Mexico wins Gold Cup 2015 and the playoff vs. USA for the Confederations Cup spot and even then I might not be convinced. Costa Rica and USA are very close in the FIFA Rankings, and if they switched then the sums for USA and Costa Rica would be 9 each. Note that Mexico didn't win any categories. Edit: Don't bring up CONCACAF Champions League performance because I acknowledge that Mexican clubs have dominated that.
LOL at giving the same weight point - wise to both the WC performance and the Hex performance. Y'all should start taking the right things more seriously. Maybe then you won't be looked down on by virtually the whole world as the bunker bob team who can still get sliced through like a hot knife on butter.
It is the most important measure, that can't be argued. However, I'll concede your point about equal money and call the 2 teams equal for exiting the same round. The Hexagonal is old news tho, it is done and dusted, the slate was wiped clean after 2013. So we can either rank the teams now as 1. Rich Coast 2.Mexico 3.u.s., or 1 Rich 2. Mexico/us You have to be convinced if that happens, that's the next measuring stick en route to Russia. The Ticos are Kings of CONCACAF until the Conf Cup playoff. Whoever wins that is the new king. If Coast wins that, then they extend their reign until 2018. Club football is independent of this discussion.
Bradley hasn't been the US coach since 2011. Does Mexico still celebrate its 2009 win over the US Z team?
Bradley hasn't been the coach since 2011 but you still resorted to bunkering. Even your own fan base admits it, it's not up for debate. You guys have never been known as an attacking side with flair. Up until this point you guys have resorted to bus parking ala Mourinho except without the results. Z team? Believe that if it makes you feel better...
