Do we really need to take a shot at somebody to mention that someone else is doing well. No one has seen Lletget play 90 minutes to judge. We have no idea what his situation as to why he's not getting 1st team minutes.
I'm sure it's difficult to determine from random exhibition match reports, but anyone know if he is playing in a more advanced role, or sitting deeper in midfield?
According to someone who went to the game he was the best player on the field. Apparently was a direct swap for Scott Parker, basically played in a deep lying role
No one has actually seen Lletget play. No one can actually prove he exists. (I kid, of course, but only a little bit). Good work from Emerson. He had a lot of fire directed at him in the past for getting special treatment - good to see him prove that it may have been worth it.
Scott Parker is actually a good "comp" for Emerson. A good role model. Scott's not the biggest guy, maybe 5'9." In his prime for Newcastle/West Ham, he was an awfully good 2-way Premier-league midfielder.
a lot of running, not so much good soccer. Scott Parker is what we already have tons of in this country. Players like Parker are what assures England that they will always go out in the first round of a WC.
Emphasis added is mine. He's well past his best but from 2008 to 2012, Parker was a damn fine soccer player and was more than just a motor with no brains. In fact, it was a player exactly like Parker that is arguably responsible for England's only decent showing in a recent major tournament in 2012 when they topped the hosts' group. I'm not saying Parker's the second coming or anything and I don't necessarily see the two as like for like, but if Hyndman comes close to replicating Parker's peak, the USMNT will have a fine midfielder on their hands.
Shrug. I'm coming from the point of view of not even knowing if Emerson is going to develop into a "premier league caliber player." I was just thinking that folks seem to continue to express concerns about Hyndman's small size for the Premier League. Scott Parker is only ~5'9" and has played ~500 times as a 2-way midfielder in England. So its not some sort of outlandish idea that Emerson can do this. I actually really liked the young Scott Parker at Chartlon. He had some flair and creative passing to his game. That seemed to fade into the typical "pit-bull"game of the English central mid. They value that tenacity.......................
Sorry to get off topic being that this is Emerson Hyndman's thread, but I've seen Lletget play it was F.A. Cup game against Lichaj and Nottingham Forest in January 2014. Surprising it was televised on one of the Foxsports channels on an early Saturday morning. West Ham got thrashed 5-0 was playing a complete reserve squad against Nottingham Forest. I guess he looked ok, nothing special. He looked nervous and not in sync with his teammates but it's hard to judge because the entire team got played off the pitch horrible team showing. I also remember Lichaj get subbed out with an injury, played very well before he got hurt too. Anyways back to the topic at hand. I am very happy for Emerson. Looking forward to seeing how he progress throughout the season and hopefully we can catch some of his games on television, it's rare to find League Championship games on television here in the states, but let's keep our fingers crossed.
I peaked at a Fulham forum and there's pretty much universal praise for Hyndman, based on his preseason games and performance with the youth squad. In fact the whole forum was pretty excited about their younger players and their potential to make an impact this year. I know that's not unusual for fans, but still nice to see his name consistently mentioned as a standout and possible contributor.
Fulham have a VERY strong core of young players in its system. Hyndman is just one of a whole bunch of quality young players.
3-4 years ago they played some very nice ball on the senior team. They did not just get good results, they played well.
Several years ago Fulham decided to invest in their youth development programs. We’ve compared that with our rivals and some are up to 39. How can you give competitive football – any football – to 39 players?” This is one of the reasons that Hyndman is actually close to the first team. They work with him closely, and there aren't 15 other midfielders ahead of him in the queue.
