The reason people are not as angry about the other mistakes is because we can understand how one would think that's inside the penalty area even if it wasn't. I also understand how the offside before the 2nd goal could be missed: it was really close. The only reasonable explanation for the missed red card in my opinion is that FIFA don't want a red card that early in the game, which is BS. That's what's pissing me off about this game. It wasn't an honest mistake.
If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick. Want a frame where he still has his hands on in the box? The correct call would have been DOGSO send off and the PK. And I hate Robben's histrionics.
People tend to remember their bad experiences more than the good ones. Haimoudi has made enough bad decisions against both teams, so that is what people will remember.
minimal contact but thats a red. robben is getting the shit hacked out of him and may not finish this game in one piece.
I think it's less that "FIFA don't want a red card" and more that this individual referee didn't want to give an early red card that early into an essentially meaningless game against the home team . . . especially considering Brazil's likely fragile mindset coming into the game. I'm not saying he was right to call it that way, but I think it's understandable.
Nice to have you here. We really enjoy name calling from partisans...It really strengthens your case in discussing the laws. The fact is Robben is a serial diver and he himself has admitted it during this tournament. If you come to a referee looking for sympathy for someone who admittedly spends time trying to cheat the referees, you are in the wrong place. Robben has been fouled many times today and in previous matches. He is an excellent player who frequently makes minor contact look like he was just shot. He doesn't need to do it and it is frustrating. This match has been poorly officiated to the benefit of both teams (Brazil should be down to 10, the penalty was borderline at best, and the second Dutch goal was clearly offside). Now, if you want to discuss the decisions from an officials viewpoint, it would be great to have you contribute and learn. If you just want to play the victim and call names, go somewhere you are wanted and can contribute to other like minded woe is me fans who never get a fair shake.
Will PI be back in the LOTG when my games begin in September? Reminder: be sure to take re-cert in August.
What about the clear penalty on David Luiz on the first half? He was clearly held inside the box... More held, with both arms than Robben by Silva.
Well, he dragged his leg looking for contact and threw himself to the ground in an exaggerated manner. There was contact, but the obvious embellishment probably made it less obvious a pk than it otherwise would have been.
Big difference is that one happened in open play where it is not traditionally accepted. Luis was held, but it occurred in a situation where it is an accepted part of the game. Not that it is right, but holding off of restarts is just a part of the game now. For me, and many others, I wish they would all be called and we got it out of the game...but the World Cup is not the time to crack down.
Considering the foul threshold at this world cup and in this match that should have been a penalty without a doubt.
Yeah, I kinda feel welcome here so thank you. To call Robben a serial diver is just wrong, last 2 seasons he barely dived. Yes, he has dived a lot, but then again he gets fouled a lot. I am aware that I am in a referee forum, thats why I am so surprised to see that people actualy keep defending not calling a foul made on Robben. I was tought when getting my ref training (someone has to do it in the amateur leagues right?) that you should never take into account the reputation of a player when making a decision. Always should one wistle to the rules and depending on the match a bit in the spirit of the match. So that why I am suprised that some of you guys actualy agree with Robben not getting obvious calls. About the ref, hes probably the worst we have seen this WC, and that bad enough. Kinda good call on the Oscar dive, he clearly dove before hitting the leg.
First caution for simulation at this World Cup and it's a blatant penalty. This referee is having a laugh.
