    What do you mean exactly?

It's good that he's having success at the YNT level for US. It may persuade to keep his allegiance with us rather than switching.

What I meant was that he can now tell teams he is negotiating with.." Hey I have a free education worth x amount do dollars, make your deal just as sweet."

Ohhh, I get what you meant. I had never thought of it that way! That's a nice bargaining tool.

Yes, because the French national teams often poach players from the prestigious NCAA system. We really need to get over our paranoia of losing dual-nationals. It's rarely talked about how many American players have had to play for other countries over the past decade because they weren't good enough for our national teams <gasp!>.

Does this guy play with Lorient anymore or is he just a friend of Tab Ramos? Looking back on this thread, there has been one update in the last few years on how his career is progressing with Lorient. He's not exactly young anymore. He's already 19.

Already 19, gosh he's practically retirement age!

He's at an age though where he really shouldn't be all that far away from the first team. He's not playing with a club in the Brunei first divison. He's playing in the academy of a Ligue One club. I'd at least have expected an update or two if this guy is actually progressing. We hear updates on almost every other player that is called into the U-20 team.

It's weird to see this guy be a staple with the U-20 team when the other players that have that tag within the team are players that most people think have big things ahead of them. There hasn't been an update in a year on this guy, besides his play with US Youth National Teams. Maybe thats not bad news, but I didn't think Gall looked that good in the Dallas Cup and there haven't been many reports in the last few years about his progression at Lorient. Do we know if he is actually progressing or is Tab just calling him in because he's with the academy of a team in a good league?

That I don't know, but we do know he's still with Lorient so they haven't gotten rid of him, which means Ramos isn't the only one who likes the kid. Beyond that, I guess we'll have to wait and see how he does in the upcoming friendlies...

I suspect that if you went searching thru French language sites, you'd find updates on Gall. We just don't have people on this board that do it, so we don't get as many updates.

His Lorient page says the highest level he played in 2013/2014 was six games in the Championnat CF2. I believe that's Lorient's reserve team........................and I think they were promoted to the CFA for this season. So I think this upcoming season they'll be in the French 4th division.

So I'd say in 2014/2015 Romain should be a starter for that reserve team and pushing for advancement.

It's really hard to make judgements on players based on the few games we get to see them with the US youth teams.

Yes, but I think it's worth noting that when Gall has been called in to US youth teams he's performed very well.

I watched every Dallas Cup game and personally thought he did not perform well.

He's played 6 games this past season for the FC Lorient reserves in the Championnat de France Amateur 2 Group H (5th level). And scored 1 goal. FC Lorient won the group and will be promoted to the Championnat de France Amateur (4th level) this season.

Looking forward to seeing him play! This should make his ability to join the U20's in camps easier now.

After watching that... someone explain to me why this kid is going the Marcus Tracy / Billy Schuler route instead of staying in Europe? Lorient was not as impressed by this highlight video as I was?
