Bale was playing left fullback for Spurs until about 2010-11 season without getting too many rave reviews.

Then he played against Inter and made Maicon appear slower than slow. A star was born and he hasn't looked back since.

I remember that match. He ate Maicon's lunch while reading the newspaper and brushing his teeth and paying some bills and catching an afternoon matinee .... and then after alllll that he took Maicon out behind the woodshed.

Sounds to me like a coach who knows his player is leaving.

“[Yedlin staying] is better for the league,” Schmid said. “But by the same token, why does Pau Gasol play in the NBA? Why does [Manu] Ginobli play in the NBA? Because the league’s better than the leagues in their home countries. And there’s going to be certain players where it’s the right thing to do to go overseas.”

Yeah, that wasn't Dougie's finest hour. I think he was carrying an injury, but even on his healthiest days, Bale could easily outrun him...backwards.

His crossing improvement was immediatly jumped out at me. He was drilling them from opening day this year.

Funny that Ashley Cole is headed to Roma, since the things people said about Cole when he was 20 are the same things people are saying about Yedlin now. He can attack but he can't defend. He gets caught out of position too much. He only has one foot.

If they really wind up at Roma together, there are worse players to learn from.

That's interesting. Napoli switched to a 4231 from a 3412 with Rafa Benitez last year and Christian Maggio who was traditionally a right midfielder moved to right back. Maggio is getting up there in age though (32) and his contract expires at the end of this upcoming season. That could be a pretty good landing spot for 'Dre.

Napoli is very interesting. A lot of talent on that team.

I kind of hope this Roma deal was over-exaggerated or falls through. There are so many clubs interested in him. Surely he can find a better situation than a club that's going to loan him out straight away.

"Yedlin’s situation is a unique one as he would become the first MLS homegrown player sold by his original club, and under league guidelines 75 percent of any Homegrown Player transfer goes to the player’s club, with 25 percent going to MLS. That 75/25 split is different than the standard 66/33 split for all other MLS transfers."

I think Najar was before this different split rule.

Maybe so, but the quoted portion says pretty plainly that it would be the first transfer of a Homegrown by his original team .... and that's not true.

Even if so, Richard Sanchez definitely wasn't.

Love Yedlin's potential, and would rather see him go to a lesser team in a big Euro league where he's going to play a lot than a big team where he'll sit and watch. His improvement this year from last year is night and day, and he needs to be playing to build on that.

In theory, sure. But Cashley never struck me as the mentoring type. More of a what's-in-it-for-me type.

Maggio is another one of those guys whose attacking nature brought him further upfield in the formation. Unless Maggio has a serious regression or gets hurt, he'll renew. He's been with them since they returned to Serie A; he's a bit of a fan favorite, and he's a vice-captain. They also have Zuniga splitting time between LB and RB, with Ghoulam being the starting LB.

With the larger point though, neither situation would leave Yedlin glued to the bench if he meshed well in the league. Both teams would probably loan him out to a mid table club for the first season, but after that, it'd all be on Yedlin. Roma might even be the quicker chance for Yedlin to start because we will probably need to address both the starting role and backup role at RB in a year, which is why Yedlin to Roma makes a whole lot of sense right now before his value climbs Mt Everest.

Not sure if this means anything, but I started a career mode on fifa yesterday as Roma, and signed Yedlin...I think the writing is on the walls.

Maicon retired after the 2014/2015 season with me too... :whistling:

Heads up. Pjanic is going to try to leave after the first season.

Dammit really? I chose Roma because I really like Pjanic as a player. I bet even if I refuse to sell the board with just sell him for 1/5 of his true value anyway

Ha, yeah. He and Castan have both come to me complaining about money immediately in the two manager modes I've done with Roma, and they always want those ridiculous wages on one year deals.

That might change if you've downloaded the latest rosters though. If that has any bearing on who asks for money in manager mode, it'll be Benatia blowing up your inbox with complaints.
