Cillesen could have saved that. A Neuer or GK of that level would have. It's ridiculous to concede that kind of a goal from that far our with so many players closing down. Also once again really impressed with De Vrij. Never rated him that high but he did great IMO
Mexican coach made a blunder. The game was lost when he brought in a defensive player for Dos Santos, with 30+ minutes on the clock yet to be played!! The Dutch needed no second invitation to attack, and roared to the finish the line. Robben and Kuyt were class. What a game by Kuyt to celebrate his 100th caps. So happy for Sneijder. He was the one needed to step out today, and he surely did. Defense was pretty awful, all over the place... lucky they didn't get punished. Great win. Once again, their mental strength and focus carried them far.
We also didnt pick up any yellow cards. All yellows are rescinded at the end of our QF game, and then everyone starts new again with a clean slate
Holland's next match will be Saturday in Salvador. That is the same venue as the the Holland-Spain match. Moreover, the match will kick of an hour later (5 pm) than Holland-Spain did, so the conditions should be fine.
Uh-oh, bad news for deJong http://www.vi.nl/nieuws/van-gaal-vreest-einde-wk-voor-geblesseerde-de-jong-.htm
He does make blunders but he makes brilliant saves and I have never seen a more skilled GK with such distribution. I think if not Neuer a great pure Shot stopper like Krul could have saved that. "Could" is the key word IMO. A WC GK "Could" have saved it IMO
Congrats Netherlands!! And really liking Netherlands chances against either Costa Rica or Greece in the quarter finals Holland much the better side the later/cooler start on Saturday hopefully will really help as well. GO HOLLAND GO!!
HUGE loss. Nigel de Jong is fighter, maybe he will surprise us with a soon-than-expected comeback. Also thankfully LvG has plenty of options with Blind, JdG and Clasie can deputize. And if all fails, there's always Kuyt..
I am 70 years old, and have been watching football for 65 years. It was a flop, and a shameful cheat. Shouldn't Robben have been booked for his DOUBLE DIVE about 10 minutes earlier? Or was that not a flop also? If thar yellow was given, ss it should have been, Robben couldn't afford to have flopped. I was pulling for Holland,so don't be so facetious. Anyway, we will just have to agree to disagree.
Yeah agree, Herrera would have been better off to keep pressing. No need to make that substitution so early IMO
Which dive in Fairyland are you referring to? The one in the 1st half where he was butchered by 2 men. You're an English fan so I guess shows how knowledgeable about football you are. 3 Clear PK's he was denied. The one before that 10 minute earlier, or so in the 2nd half was a clear PK. He was swept off by the feet of the last feet of the last defender. Don't know which world you are stuck in. Guess that is why EPL is such a thug league. You can make dirty tackles and literally have 2 make 2 footed one's or stamp someone to get a Yellow Card. You calling clear PK's a cheat, Yellow & a great performance a flop shows your football sense.
Perhaps you might want to go over to the Big Soccer World Cup Referee Forum and read what real match officials have to say about the PK call (they agree that it was a PK) before passing judgement.
Kuijt.. ******* mother of god! He'll walk on water if he has to! Really happy for Huntelaar as well, His assist was very importent. Still not happy with Sneijder.. Except that goal he didn't have a single good touch so far. (I'm not even exaggerating) It's really frustrating to see him mess up even a simple pass.
That's not a valid argument to give a penalty later though. We are in the QF, but with tail between our legs..
Congrats Netherlands. Mexico did not deserve to be in WC finals. They barely qualified with help from USA
Sneijder has been trying to make something happen every time he gets the ball. And as a result, he misses the quick and simple pass that would keep things going to look for a master pass. Really glad he got the goal though. Hopefully he settles in. There's a lot to be said for Kuijt's work rate, but there's also a lot to be said for Robben's. The whole team was slowing down to a crawling pace in the second half, barely moving off the ball, and barely moving on it. But Robben was still going full tilt at the Mexican defense until the final whistle. He gets massive props from me for that.
