No doubt, I just don't like the whole bunkering school. I don't like it when we (the US) do it, I don't like it when Italy does it and I don't like it when Greece does it. I realize you're doing what you can to win, but in my book that style of play is boring and destructive and I don't want to see it rewarded. Why? Because I want to watch entertaining soccer, not 11 men crowded in their own penalty area batting away anything that comes close. When you make the other team dominate possession and take the game to you, you might be establishing an edge over them (though maybe not. The jury is still out as it doesn't work all the time, or even most of the time the last decade or so), but you are doing so at the cost of destroying the aesthetic of the sport. That to me is immoral. Yes, immoral. And justice punishes immorality. So there you have it.
In euro 2012 , they had. 1-1 tie with Poland and a missed penalty kick conversion at the end of the game. Lost to Czech Republic in game two , 2-1. Then beat Russia 1-0. In the quarter finals , loss to Germany 4-2. In a previous post you stated they didn't score any goals.
Did I? Not that I recall. If anybody made that point about Greece then it was probably about Greece's scoring record in World Cups which is abysmal. I believe they only scored in two out of nine matches.
They played a very good game against civ and could have had a margin similar to that of Switzerland today. They may not be sexy pics ,but a least they both got through. Thank god because Europe was taking a beating. Hoping for Russia tomorrow .......and obviously Germany.
i think its only right that many Euro teams continue to get more beatings. they have the most slots from any confedartion by a wide margin. odds are always on their side that one of them will pull through to the next stages. meanwhile for south america for example, at least 2 sides will be eliminated in R16 because they happen to meet each other so early (Colombia/Uruguay amd Brazil/Chile) . thats already half of the CONMEBOL teams by the end of the week that will be gone. and then the winner of these games will face each other in quarterfinals. further eliminating conmebol teams.
I posted this in the WC forum: They should rank group winners 1 to 8 and runners up 9 to 16. Have 1 face 16, 2 face 15, etc, etc and the bracket set NCAA style or Libertadores style. Off course that creates logistics problems like not enough time between group round and round of 16, and ticketing and transport for the teams, etc, etc. In big countries like Brasil or Russia or the US it would be difficult to make it work. However in smaller countries, where the commutte between cities is shorter it might work. For example (assuming certain results for today) we woul have the following bracket. NED VS GRE GER VS MEX ARG VS URU FRA VS SWI COL VS NIG CR VS ALG BRA VS CHI BEL VS USA
If you feel it's wrong for South American teams to have to play each other now, then why weren't they all able to top their groups? If they had topped their groups, they wouldn't have had to worry about facing each other so soon. Que se maten entre ellos es lo justo.
The last 10 years after winning Euro we haven't been "punished" as u say for playing defensive football , instead we are evolving.Last 10 years only missed WC 2006.And except EURO 2008 we had good performances. So I think you are pretty much wrong.
aesthetic of the sport??? that is so relative my friend....... You decide what to play depending the material you have...
this... unfortunately we have good defenders and not very good strikers and our best striker was injured for months and he is unfit.
Congrats to these guys who called lonely little Greece making it out. @Revolt @Neutral2 @Gorando @Matakos @OneiroPhobia @Suren01 @Costas - Ailton @karpouzeiro
