didn't saw the contact but it looked more like a dive. the ball in the attack at 16 minutes looked waaay out though. gonna give my hometown man the benefit of the doubt for now
That was a clip of the heels from behind when the attacker was running at full speed with the ball and had open space in front of him. Screams TACTICAL FOUL = yellow card. This is an excellent example of how cards don't always result from reckless challenges. Sometimes it's not about how hard, but about how the foul is committed (from where [behind] and under what circumstances [during an open attacking opportunity]).
Offside. Bang bang play but one I would expect the ar to make- the offside line is not in question. Perhaps it was hard to tell who played the ball last.
yeah but the koreans were complaining that the clearance hit the player hand , did it show that in the replay ?
Yeah it showed them complaining. They ought to play defense without putting their hands up like that!
CBC feed - not offside. Even with the defender behind him. The clearance attempt may have deflected off the upper arm of the RUS player but even if it definitively had, it would have been hard to judge that to be deliberate. It was kicked at full speed from a few yards away.
Must be said that the decision of onside there is as good a decision as we're likely to see by an AR at this (or any) tournament. Bang-bang play, quick deflection, and the offside line is determined by the trailing foot of the defender. Going by upper bodies, it's offside.
UPDATE: I went back and did some research. At the captains meeting and right before kickoff when the camera focuses on Pitana he can be seen patting his badge several times trying to keep it on. I kept watching and his patch actually falls off his chest at 0:11! You can see it flutter to the ground and it stays there until Pitana picks it up between 1:40-1:44 and tries to stuff it in his back pocket. You can see him fumbling with his back pocket from 1:52 to 2:02.
