Looks like a fairly standard ankle sprain based on those images. Might miss a few group matches if that is the case.

I desperately hope not. Rather have Großkreutz and Durm.

I know a match against Armenia isn't a benchmark for greatness, but I actually thought that Howedes performed quite well tonight.

My WM Lineup, predicated on a Volland recall in favor of the now-injured Reus:
    -----------------------Weidenfeller---------------------
    Durm----------Boateng----Hummels----Großkreutz
    ---------------Lahm----Schweinsteiger/Kroos-------- (dependent on Schweinsteiger's fitness)
    Volland-------------------Özil----------------------Müller
    -----------------------Klose/Götze---------------------- (dependent on Klose's fitness)

Schürrle and/or Götze as offensive supersubs.

Rumors are saying it's a torn ligament. I hope they're just trolling.

Me too. Although Boateng showed his worth. He is strong and has good acceleration. Can be asset.

I would also start Durm ahead of Höwedes but it's more likely the latter will start against a flank and attack-heavy Portugal.

Funny, but when you go back and look at he tournaments he's played in where he's started, he's ether scored or assisted in nearly every game. Where he's played bad it is in games Germany has lost and played poorly as a team. So your premise is a bit off.

ROFL...block anyone else no one will be around to read your drivel.

Rumors are he will not be ready for Portugal match.

Anyone think it's worth the gamble to take him if he were to miss first two to three matches? I would.

I don't think it's worth taking someone who will be fighting to be match fit. He should be replaced by Volland.

I don't know anything about the official protocol for team selection, but can he still be replaced if the worst case scenario becomes reality?

Yeah. Who else would we call up? Chances are that player won't play all tournament anyways.

Yikes. Boateng + Höwedes defending on the flanks against fast, capable wingers? I'll pass on that.

Özil playing wide with Boateng as his fullback support? No, thanks.

Here's my XI if Reus is out.

    -----------------------Neuer
    Großkreutz----Boateng----Hummels----Durm
    ------------------Lahm----Schweini
    Müller----------------Özil--------------Schürrle
    -----------------------Klose

Yea he can definitely be replaced. And it will naturally be Volland. That's a blow because it means Podolski likely to start now and while he was good today, he is a major drop off in creativity and the mobility/intelligence we'll need to unlock better teams.

Indeed. Losing Reus is a tremendous loss. He was the one last thing this team had over the 2012 or 2010 variant. The sadder thing is Löw will now start Podolski.

We will see if they are mentally tough enough to win a WC. This setback could actually galvanize them. I am just gutted for Reus, but oddly hopeful that this can motivate the team.
