For those who missed the Tailgate Show last night, Dave Brousseau Sports writer for the Sun Sentinel, dropped some big news about The Fort Lauderdale Strikers Stadium situation dealing with Schlitterbahn Water Park, FAA and the City of Fort Lauderdale. Incredible news. Hopefully all works out and the deal gets done. Great news for Strikers fans!! Listen in at the 1:25:25 mark. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/954tailgate/2014/05/08/the-tailgate-show-s3e6-dave-brousseau
Happy for you guys, that would be great news Miami with their own stadium an Fort Lauderdale with their own stadium a rivalry 20-30 minutes away would be awesome... Hate you guys
LOL How much more will you hate us when our stadium is being worked on next year while Becks is still looking around for rocks to fill the hole in the bay the county is willing to give him. Kidding aside though, I and a few others around here told you a long time ago how hard getting a stadium in Dade was gonna be. You have to admit at this point we were right. The longer it drags on, the tougher it's going to get for Becks too.
Well, how many times i told u there will be a team in Miami. You have to admit at this point I was right.
Well....not just yet you're not. The whole deal hinges on a stadium...and so far that has gone nowhere. Not saying it won't evetually get worked out somehow, I just don't think it's a 100% lock like some of your cohorts do.
I just want a cross twn rivalry every year, I honestl believe this rivalry will be the beginning of rivalry soccer in the is as far as inter city rivals (south Florida) besides LA and guture future New York rivals. I hope ft laudy grows, gets the stadium and never leaves from fort laudy.
The game jerseys we all bought many days ago are finally in. We can buy them, or pick up the one we pre-paid (my voucher has a receipt dated April 4, 2014), at the next home game on Sept 20. 'Bout damn time!...;-)
The Strikers have a Facebook post that there will be a MAJOR announcement on Friday about the ownership and future of the team. This is supposed to be directly from the horse's mouth. We can only hope it is NOT from the other end. Rumor has it that the owners, be they majority owners or minority owners, are another Brazilian company and the Strikers will remain the Strikers. That is all that is floating around right now. Check on Facebook, Twitter, etc on Friday for more particulars.
When was this taken? From watching the Strikers gams, it does not look even 1/4 of that that attends the games. I could be wrong, but in the pictures from NASL.Live
So I don't want to panic anyone, and this is pure speculation, but Beckham and his MLS group in Miami are ALSO supposed to announce "something" very soon. Coincidence? http://www.soccerbyives.net/2014/09/report-announcement-franchise.html
Look in the center circle. That appears to be an original NASL logo, which would place it back in the old days (when you could have a logo in the center circle, which is no longer allowed and hasn't been for years). Further proof, that same (ish) photo exists on this page, where it mentions the image is from the late 1970s/early 1980s.
Kenn's right, that's a picture from the days of the original Strikers, when Lockhart was jammed regularly for their matches. Would LOVE to see even half that many people attending regularly now. New ownership should mean more money for marketing, ticket sales, and a roster upgrade for next year. That should get this team heading in the right direction once again. Hopefully there will be news tomorrow that the Schlitterbahn deal which includes a renovated Lockhart is finally official as well.
It's that skinny rectangle on top of the stand on the left. It was about the right size for a medium sized high school football stadium.
According to an article by Dave Brousseau in Friday's Sun-Sentinel & a phone call he made to tonight's Tailgate Show podcast the Fort Lauderdale Strikers have been sold to a group of 3 Brazilian investors: 27 year old Paulo Cesso is to be the majority owner and Rafael Bertani & Ricardo Geromel will be the minority owners. Evidently Traffic Sports USA will also remain as minority owners. Check the Sun-Sentinel site for the complete article. It is also our understanding that Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald has written an article about this, but I could not locate it online.
