I totally agree with you, Cantona was a good player, but you compare him to players like Giggs and Scholes and even Keane...they have all been far more important players to Manchester United.

Le Tissier is one of my all time favourite players, his goals were pure class and for me he was a better player than Cantona, both very similar as well. Sir Alex Ferguson actually tried to sign Le Tissier but Le Tissier was so loyal to Southampton he turned down Manchester United, and that's when United turned their attentions to Eric Cantona whilst he was at Leeds.

The stand out players during The Premier League era have been...

    Pires
    Tony Adams
    Sol Cambell
    Henry
    Viera
    Berkamp
    Overmars
    Zola
    Drogba
    Cech
    Terry
    Ashley Cole
    Frank Lampard
    Keane (Man U)
    Beckham
    Van Nistelrooy
    Scholes
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Giggs
    Ferdinand
    Schmeical
    Irwin
    Steven Gerrard
    Sami Hyypia
    Ginola
    Shearer
    Jay Jay Okocha
    Friedel
    Di Canio
    Le Tissier

Don't think anyone could argue against those names.

    Easily the most underrated...

Maybe Silva could be considered as one of the best in a few years time, but Scholes has done so much more, also there's Cesc Fabregas ;)

Yeah fair enough kev.. Im just getting more impressed with silva each time i see him play.. He has such a quick brain and eye for a pass .. Brilliant balance and first touch.. But the player i most enjoyed watching when he was on song was david ginola.. What a waste of talent especially at international level.. I hated the french for not taking him to world cup 98 !! The most two footed player i ve ever seen..

Yep he's definitely a good player fantastic footballing brain on him. And a big fan of Ginola myself for obvious reasons...but I'll never forgot this goal ;)

Mate I'm not one of these Spurs fans that hate on Gooners, I've been raised to enjoy the rivalry as a football fan should. I'm also from North London so most of my Family are Arsenal fans anyway (as much as it pains me to say haha).

le tiss, though. over here back in the 90s, every week we'd just get 20 minutes' worth of a single match's (usually man u) highlights, and then a couple minutes of highlights from the rest of the prem. by no means did you see all the goals ... only the best ones. and, crikey, it seemed like every week you'd see le tissier with an absolute belter. honestly, if that and the world cup were all you had to go on, one could be forgiven for thinking it a toss-up between romario and matt le tissier for the best player in the world.

Le tissier was a very very good player.. Brilliant in some games ..listless in others.. He was what they call in england a 'luxury player'..

Okocha? overrated...and never did it at a big club/team in England..

Best African player bar Drogba in PL history is Kanu, Yaya Toure, maybe Kolo Toure (I say maybe for the 04 unbeaten season, but not after that..)

I think a lot of it comes down to whether you rate peak performance over consistency. Take the left wing for example. At their peaks, you'll hear arguments for Pires and Ginola and Robben and Bale as being better than Giggs. After all, 01/02 Pires and 12/13 Bale were both pretty ridiculously good.

Yet, no one who are objective will choose anyone else over Giggs for the greatest EPL left winger of all time. The man proved it with almost 20 years of great performances.

This is true with many positions. Cech holds all kinds of records (least goals conceded, least appearance needed for 100 cleansheets) yet most people would still choose the Great Dane as the best of all time. Consistency is what people value most, and probably rightfully so.

Some of course, combines both consistency and also being the best at what they do. These are the no brainers.

Those LWs were better, playing good-to-okay for Giggs last 5 years or whatever doesn't impress me.

Giggs was nowhere near his best in his final years at United but you have to respect how consistently good he was (for a top team) for practically the whole duration of the Premier League.

I do, but pretty much from 2001 onwards, he was not the best LW in the league again. Maybe there's one season I'd give him but that's a long stretch to when he retired.
