It sucks that his chances for the club were all over in that 1 match due to errors by his defenders. His agent should definitely try to float some interest in MLS or maybe a return to the 2 Bundesliga? Did anyone ever catch the German cup final that his club ended up losing 5 to nil?
I watched it. Should be said that his club was a second division club facing off against a decent first division team, Schalke, and Duisburg were not able to step up on the night. Yelldell looked out of his depth but not more so than the rest of his team mates. What I always found more surprising is that he even got that move to Leverkusen, as a solid but unexciting second division player. There was a suggestion he got that transfer due to his personal connections with the then Leverkusen coach, Robin Dutt, since the two already knew each other from the time when Dutt had been coaching Stuttgarter Kickers when Yeldell was playing with them. As to Yelldell's future, apparently the club has already started integrating him into their coaching structure as a goalkeeper coach for their youth teams this season, might be a worthwhile avenue for him to persue. Realistically speaking, how much interest is he going to get from MLS? German- Americans don't seem to be in such a high demand and I'd think his profile in the US must be very low.
Thanks for the review. I never got to see the game but recall the scoreline and it looked pretty bad though of course a CL club against a 2nd division club would never be too pretty.I thought the same when he moved to BL. It seemed quite odd but must have felt like quite a reward ($$$) despite just 1 game for them, but quite an experience to behold CL games, even from the bench. That's pretty eventful if he's to remain with the club in such a role for years to come.
I agree with the last part but more in that if Yelldell wanted out he would have moved by now. He would have known he wasn't going to start fairly soon with Leverkusen's setup. His profile is low now and I don't see any MLS team reaching out for a 32 year old gk from another league although if he had tried to move 2-3 years ago, I think a team would have gambled on him. Especially after he got his one cap for the US. But I always just assumed he was very comfortable where he was and didn't want a move.
I remember when he got that cap. Against Paraguay, it was quite peculiar. I don't recall though if Brad or Timmy were injured or why he got brought in, but he was doing pretty good for his club (though 2 Bundesliga) I wager to get the call up. But it was good to see another GK getting a chance particularly outside of MLS.

It wasn't really that peculiar, it was the year after the World Cup and Bob was doing a ton of experimenting in fall 2010/spring 2011. Duisberg was putting together a strong season, and Yelldell was getting decent reviews.
If Leno was to get injured, would Bayer just accept defeat that Yeldell would do a bad job and they would be in big trouble or do they actually trust him? I say this because it is pretty impressive that there is an American GK who is the back up on a UCL club, yet somehow most fans of the USMNT don't even know about him. Is he better than Rimando or Sean Johnson? I think there is a good chance that he might be.
He hasn't played in a competitive game since Nov 30th, when he played for the reserve team in the Regionalliga, so I wouldn't say he's better on form, now, than Rimando for example. In terms of Leverkusen, it looks like Yelldell has been splitting bench time with young keeper Niklas Lomb.
I wanna say that's he probably even with Rimando but only cause thinking MLS = 2 Bundesliga. Though he's no.2 at a Bundesliga club in the CL and though has only played reserve matches for them. Would be incredible if he got the chance to play in the Bundesliga for a game or 2 but impossible at this point.
Why is it impossible? Is the other back up GK better than him? If Klinsmann wants to take an experienced GK to be the #3 guy for the World Cup, then he should at least give Yeldell a look. Has Yeldell been called into the National Team under Klinsmann?
From the highlights video from 2011 (?) I'd say Rimando now is def above Yelldell then. Yelldell is having problems with positioning and mechanics on stuff and he's been on the bench for what, three years now? Plus Klinsmann is going to take a third string GK who is starting somewhere than sitting. He's been very adamant about playing time. Honestly if Yelldell was good enough for a WC spot he would have been proving it by not sitting on the bench somewhere. Which, I'm sure he's a nice guy and all but I don't think he has WC aspirations. And no Yelldell has only been called into camp for that one game.
It seems "Impossible" but we did put men on the moon so you have a point. Not sure if his competition is better but apparently he was a no.1 for SEVILLA for many years and probably has more name recognition/higher wages. I'm not so sure though if the league is as much like the EPL in that "we paid $$$$ for him, we have to play him even if he's crap". It seems that JK has penciled in Rimando as his glorified no.3 for the past year and a half. Must like his performance but also his easiness at that position and won't cause a stink since he won't play. Also probably doesn't notice Yelldell, but would make sense if he was aware of him.
I'm just wondering how good Yeldell would be if he was playing in MLS. Would he be a starter? Would he be one of the best GK's in the league? Its so hard to tell how good these back ups that don't play a game really are.
I would guess he would be a decent to very good GK in the league. Probably can go head to head with Rimando. He's got a 6-7 inch difference on him which is useful. I hear you though.
