    What politics?

He is still fairly young and Mexico has several keepers to choose from. He very we'll could be called against Korea...

Agreed. The fact is, for the last 15 years or so, you're not going to get considerable minutes between the pipes for the USA unless you are starting in Europe. Period. And to boot, US starting goalkeepers have been first choice keepers in the English Premiereship and Spain. Nothing to sneeze at.

Liga MX is still better than MLS, but to me Yarbrough winning with Leon is no bigger than Rimando winning with RSL. Truth be told, MLS actually develops better keepers than Mexico. I mean, Guillermo Ochoa is the most successful goalkeeper in the last 15 years for Mexico, and he's a good French League Keeper. Nevertheless, he still would be, by far, our third choice behind Howard and Guzan and would be in a fight for the 3rd kit in the US. I mean, we had guys play well in South America (Like Jonny Walker) get nowhere near the National Team.

If I was Yarbrough, I would hope he has the ancestry for a European passport and get out of Mexico. He would then have better odds leveraging for contention, not just with the US, but whatever country his parents ancestor's hailed from.

He's 24. SJ and BH are his age and are on the path to starting. Rimando is a likely third string. Guzan was getting looks before starting at AVL. Meola, Thornton was getting PT when playing in the MLS. Not saying WPY is the next gk or even a possibility but Europe is not a must.

Well, if the kid wants the gig let's give him a try. Otherwise I'm glad to see Mexico's getting good new talent, and the USA exporting ours. :D

Which talent would it be that the USA is exporting, that you are referring to?

    Great vid.

But seriously, what is it about Americans? We just produce good goalkeepers. Heck, look at Boaz Myhill...Other countries benefit from American goalkeeping. Get two Yanks to have a child in Mexico, and give Mexico a great goalkeeper. You're welcome Mexico.

    You got it backwards.

If anything you can take credit for Richard Sanchez since he has gotten most of his training here but not this guy.

    Easy.

    This post...

… is both unnecessarily confrontational and inaccurate.

The thread was created to ask other US fans if Yarborough is a viable candidate at the goalkeeper position. If the OP's starting position is inaccurate, then that's easily corrected and more to the point there are plenty of reasons for that inaccuracy other than willful misrepresentation. In fact it seems like lately you come over here with your feathers pre-ruffled, looking for a reason to be offended.

It’s not like anybody is sending up the bat signal for you, Bruce. If it really bothers you that much then you need not drop by. If, on the other hand, you revert to your earlier pattern of providing more analysis than antagonism, you’re more than welcome.

Rimando is a decent choice for 3rd. After the WC both Johnson/Hamid should be ready to head to Europe and fight for that no.3 spot.

Don't see Howard sticking around past 2014, although he would be good enough to be Guzan's back up in 2018.

If he's starting at Everton, he will be staying with the NT. He and Guzan can continue their duel.

I think he will retire from International Duty after the World Cup. I don't think he wants to continue traveling back and forth between Europe and North America. I think he has hinted at it as well.

If Guzan went down right before the 2018 World Cup, and there were no good alternatives, I don't think Howard would have any problem filling in as an emergency replacement, but otherwise I think his international career is over after the 2014 World Cup.

True, but Yanks have always had great keepers. Even when we were crap in the 80's, we had solid guys between the pipes.

And quit being so serious, I am being facetious you know.

Dude means like Layun who was able to get an EU passport because he had Spanish citizenship due to his grand father (and mother also getting it).

It is easier to play in Europe when you have an EU passport.

Not sure Paul would have any German conections to do this.

How much of the bottom could a child of American parents from Texas be growing up in Mexico?

Just from what I have seen here, it IS IMPOSSIBLE that you will ever see him playing for the US. He has stated that he is Mexican (not Mexican-American) and the only chance most seem to be suggesting is if Mexico doesn't want him and we d0. For a GK, how likely do you think that is? If he isn't good enough for Mexico, but is good enough for the US? That is a possibility that could arise for a field player, but not likely for GK. I don't know why his parents moved to Mexico, but it is very likely that his upbringing in Mexico was nowhere comparable to a Mexican American's upbringing in the US and that, I think, would have a great impact on how he feels as well.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party... Is there a link where he says he wouldn't play for the US?

No, there isn't. But Mahtzo's point is that if he is not good enough for Mexico, he's certainly not good enough to play for the US, considering our goalkeeping talent. Truth is, since 1998 both our starting and backup goalkeepers were European starters. That is a recent phenomenon in Mexico and honestly, only their starting keeper starts in France. (Far cry from fielding 2-3 Premiereship starters)

This is why I've been on like a broken record asking if he has Scottish or Irish ancestry, because if he's making moves to insinuate that he'd play for the USA to force Mexico's hand, it's not going to work. Now if he's threatening to play for Ireland or Scotland...Now he would most certainly be in their program.

First thing's first, I don't think he's been in Leon for a few years. :D

Before he got there, he had been jumping from one Pachuca-affiliate to another. I guess it's somewhat of a good thing, he has experience playing league finals (He won one with Tampico if I remember correctly). He just hasn't been at a top league long enough.
