I have watched this kid for the past few years at Leon in Mexico. He just pulled off the upset and won the Liga MX Title against Club America. I understand he is from Texas and I think would be a great prospect for the US in the near future for the next cycle. Does anyone have more information on him? With all the Goalkeepers Mexico has right now, I think he would be viable option for the US...
I understand he is born and raised in Mexico. His parents are American ex-pats who have lived in Mexico for 25 years or more. We aren't hurting for keepers any more than Mexico is though. So I'm not sure about the premise of your post.
I never said we were hurting, he was raised in Mexico...Not sure if he was born. Again my sources says he is from Texas. I agree our top two goalkeepers are strong but Nick Romano as our third option??? I know this kid is better than him. My premise is to find more information about him and to find more talent for the US. Is your premise to stop looking for talent because we have many good players?
An article I read a few days ago said he was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico. His parents are/were from Texas. And does anyone actually believe that Rimando is actually the 3rd best American keeper on the planet? WC keepers generally skew towards experience on the bench. So there's just that. And just because Leon won the title, it doesn't make Yarbrough the 3rd best American keeper on the planet either. Is he even better than Rimando based upon this half season and tournament?
I think he ultimately has a better chance with Mexico. For the future, I think Guzan and Johnson are the #1 and #2 for at least next cycle, and possibly the cycle after that. I'd put Yarbrough in the same category as Hamid, Irwin, MacMath and Cropper. There are a bunch of unproven USMNT GK's who have shown flashes. I also like what I have seen from Steffen at Maryland. I don't think it will be long until he is on the USMNT's radar. The U-17 GK Kevin Silva looks like a future star as well. I think Mexico needs Yarbrough a lot more after this cycle. Besides Ochoa, who do they have past this cycle that isn't going to be 30+ by the next WC?
Their win wasn't an upset. Many favored them, or called it a push going into the Final. Aqui esta mas informacion sobre el: http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/m...soy-100-por-ciento-mexicano-william-yarbrough
Thanks for supporting it...I knew he had dual citizenship. We can agree to disagree that Leon was the favorite. It is clear that he is proud to be Mexican and dreams of playing for the Tri ( I have no idea why?) But if he has a legit chance to go to a World Cup with the USA, a chance that Mexico will probably never give him...He might just think about it Castillo said the same thing and look.
Not really....Castillo said the same thing. So it actually doesn't answer that. lol Let him get past over for a few years and see if that answers that...
I do genuinely believe Rimando is the 3rd best American keeper right now. Maybe 4 if you include Friedel.
It should be noted that William has been called up by Mexico's U23s in the past, but I don't think he played any games for them. William's been saying his "heart is 100% Mexican" for a while now. Don't let the blond hair and blue eyes fool you. This is a kid born in Mexico, raised entirely in Mexico, and has been brought up entirely in the Mexican soccer system. If Mexico wants him, he'll go in that direction. It's not entirely impossible that he'd play for the US, but it's a long-shot.
I agree he is a long shot to play for the US...But that's my point. Mexico doesn't seem to want him and under certain circumstances... if he gets a smart agent that shows him all the Mexican players that has been cap-tied to Mexico never to be seen again (Ponce) things could change quickly.
I agree here, it's a long shot. But right now, this kid is entirely Mexico's to lose. For one, for the US, he's just going to be fighting Cody Cropper and other hopefuls for the right to be Guzan's backup for 2018. He won't be in a real contention to start until 2022. In Mexico, there is a chance of him honestly getting on the 2014 squad, considering they are in flux. If Mexico didn't qualify, poaching him would have been much easier. And your statement is totally correct--If Mexico want him, he will play for them. Yarborough only comes into play if he is totally snubbed by Mexico. The USA should indicate that we are interested in him and watching him, because if Mexico aren't going to take him, we'd give him a home. I'm hoping the kid goes Aron Johannson on them and decides to play for us. One can only hope.
My heart is with blah blah blah. He just like a lot of these American/Mexican dual nationals will play for the first country that comes calling.
Nice summarization! That has been my point from the beginning. I agree, if it's going to happen...It will probably be in the next cycle. In Mexico they love Corona, Ochoa, Talavares, and Michel...If they drag there feet it can end very badly for Mexico.
Well tell us how you really think. LOL I love my country until " Wait, I can go to world cup...were do I sign?"
true dat. US would be his 2nd choice. but show me the link where castillo said he rooted for Mexico and that his heart is Mexican.
Key words: Castillo admitted he was once bitter towards the American soccer establishment for overlooking him but that those feelings have faded over time. “Right now I just want to do what is best for my career and my family.” http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/2009/06/castillo-i-would-play-for-the-united-states.html
Yarbrough would actually be Castillo in reverse. Castillo was born and bred in the United States. He was very much on the US' radar as he played ODP and was New Mexico high school player of the year. The talent evaluators just thought other kids were better. As he never got a chance with the US, he accepted a callup to Mexico............... Yarbrough was born and bred in Mexico. He's very much been on Mexico's radar as he's been called up by their U23s and has played well in Liga MX. The coaches and talent evaluators simply have thought other options were better. As he's never gotten a chance with Mexico, would he accept a callup to the US? Only one way to find out, and that's to give him a call. The big difference here is that Yarbrough ain't Guzan. So essentially you'd be calling him to ask "hey, do you want to turn your back on Mexico to sit on the bench and watch the USMNT? Perhaps fight it out with Johnson, Hamid, and others to be our backup keeper in the 2018 cycle? I just don't see it....................
I just don't see losing this kid as a big loss. The US has so many GK's around that age from 20-24 that are at least as good as Yarbrough. Mexico doesn't have that. Besides Richard Sanchez, I don't believe that they have another decent GK in that age range. From my research, Yarbrough is the only GK in Liga MX aged 24 or younger who is a starter.
Were he not Mexican he'd be one guy in line with Cropper and Johnson and Hamid in line to back up Brad Guzan next cycle. No more, no less. As it is, he's Mexican. This is basically a non-issue.
Kid grew up in mexico, speaks spanish, his parents have lived 30+ years over there...he's mexican; albeit an american looking one. Good keeper though!
