Looks like Bayamon FC have been removed... Team link is now just a generic page and they arent included at all on the team list (although they both was there earlier in the week!!)
What do you guys about the National Team? How far has Puerto Rico progressed? How long until you guys think that they make it to the Gold Cup?
Are Bayamon FC playing in any league? They are still in the CCL and even played last night and lost, but they aren't listed as being in the PRFL...
As far as I can tell, they are not currently playing in any league. Last season they played in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Puerto Rico (LNFPR), winning the regular season then finished runner up in the playoffs. This granted entry to the 2014 CFU Club Championships for which they subsequently qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League. Before the CFU Club Championships started, it was announced that Bayamon FC had changed its name to "Puerto Rico Bayamon FC" and joined the NPSL for the 2014 season. They appear to have two website, one for Puerto Rico BFC, and for Bayamon FC. Both sites link each other and numerous players appear on both squad lists However, due to not receiving approval from the FPF in time, they have had to delay entry to 2015. Since then, going by Puerto Rico BFC's results page, they have not played any match since the CFU Club Championship. It could be possible that they have been playing friendly matches during this period. Indeed, another club in Puerto Rico, Guayama FC, who are competing in this years LNFPR played a friendly against Puerto Rico BFC earlier this week. On a side note, FC Dallas loaned a player to Bayamon FC who they claimed to play in the "Puerto Rico Soccer League". Such a league did exist, but folded in 2011. I am no expert on Puerto Rican soccer, this is just what I have found using a quick internet search, and my spanish is rusty at best.
I play footy here and tons of people do as well. Bars get packed for big European matches especially La Liga and Champions league. There are tons of fans but The Islanders died and young players who are really good just don't continue
The Islanders provided a unique situation to football fans in PR. They played in the second division in North America but were able to compete and win against first division teams in the Caribbean through the Caribbean Club Cup. This allowed them to compete in the CONCACAF Champions league. Of course, the Canadian and U.S. lower level pro teams have the same opportunity through their nation's cups, but they are seldom able to achieve what the Islanders did. The Islanders had a good following (not great but good) until its last season. I know they were not economically viable without the Commonwealth's support, but it is ashamed to lose such a bright light for the island.
It's a huge shame and as I said I play footy with players that are really good but they just don't follow it because they don't see a future in it. It's sad since tons of people I know follow footy and don't give a crap about baseball. Actually nobody I know except 3 or 4 people give a crap about baseball. And those people also follow soccer. But people focus on that for some reason.
