Jurgen has looked closely at all of the players and then sent some back to the field where he could closely observe them he knows which of those players can deliver the final.

He has also managed, poorly in my view to deliver the stated first target qualify in first in the campaign putting the U.S. into a select pool of other powers.

He needs to work on personnel going with Besler was a good decision he must still find quality center forwards 3 of whom he can trust to deliver the final.

Next he needs 3 more forwards and to make final selections on #10s.

Other than that he must convince Chandler to get on the plane and pick quality ballplayers with pedigree in the game to establish quality depth for the tournament.

That's his checklist as head coach on the personnel side.

We can hope he makes the correct decisions but still when I over watch his in game management I am disillusioned with nearly all of his strategies, tactics, and schemes.

It all goes down to hiring a quality head coach.[/quote]

Interesting how many people are unimpressed with a coach that has won 15 out of the last 16 games his team has played.

I'm guessing Klinsi is saying he would love to continue being the coach but would also love a a raise.

I don't understand this crap at all. Never will. JK's shortcomings revolve in large part around his use and selections of fullbacks.

Klinsmann admitted that while Evans has made the right back position his own in 2013 there is an opportunity for Lichaj to prove himself as an able deputy.

“We wanted to give Eric a chance, and personally I wanted to see him,” explained the German coach. “It’s one thing seeing his games for Forest and it’s another thing seeing him as part of this group. We wanted to see how he would fit in.

Our right back is Brad Evans, he has that position locked down. But behind Brad there is some space. We have tried some different people out there, Cameron has played that role, Orozco can play there and we’ll see what happens with Steve Cherundolo over the next couple of months. So with that in mind it was important to bring Eric into the group. He hasn’t been here under my guidance but he’s fitted in well.”

Are you sure about that math? Seems like less than that since Costa Rica, and we just tied Scotland....

Any talk about his future is premature. Let's see what happens in Brazil.

Brazil played 4 friendlies in Europe this year. 1 win, 1 tie and 2 losses.

    Sorry but that doesn't matter.

    Importance levels:
    World Cup
    World Cup qualification
    Gold Cup

He's got his biggest task ahead of him. It doesn't matter if we win every game 10-0. If we fail in the WC then none of it matters.

Bipolar much or just given to hyperbole? We always fail in the WC.

I wonder about how miserable it must be to be a fan of a team that only a handful of games every four years matter.o me, that is to fandom as Timmy Chandler is to a national team.

I enjoyed the Austria game today and it was a friendly. Not pleased with the result, but there were some good things in the game. When the Nats play it matters.

I don't define failure as "failure to win the world cup."

I'm with you Wiley. It is so wonderful watching another USA team grow and develop before my eyes into yet one more World Cup warrior. I just hope JK has guts and goes with our best athletes, not a politically correct hodgepodge that plays nice.

B.t.w., best thing about today's game: The MLS RCB totally outplaying his Bundesliga partner at LCB.

For me JK only "fails" at the World Cup in a way that should preclude his rehiring if:
    1. A 1998-like record and level of performance; or
    2. We fail to get out of the group because Jermaine Jones gets a red card for doing something stupid.

Why Jermaine Jones? When was the last time he received a red card while playing for the USMNT?

Because he loses his cool playing soccer, even if he hasn't been caught doing it while with the USMNT.

Look if you are right and Jermaine Jones is in control of himself, then JK has nothing to worry about.

What if Jermaine Jones continues to do lots of stupid things and continues to run around like a chicken with its head cut off?

Cuz I see the latter as more likely.

I am really coming around to a POV like this. Of course, it all depends on the group draw. If we luck out and get Switzerland/Greece/Algeria and don't advance, I would make that "#3." But otherwise, the possibilities are really stacked against us this time around, and I don't know what more you could ask of JK given the current player pool.

We have a team with strenght enough to pass the group stage except if we get france in third pot and brazil, germany or argentina in the first pot.
Of course the team must be well chosen- no beasley at LB, Cameron as RB, - the other positions are filled with proper players .
And the referees must be just- we were robbed in the last three cups- against south korea and germany 2002,, against italy and ghana2006, against algeria and slovenia2010

I would think with all the history you know about our WC performances you would also know that we had back to back historical years using teams you consider not "well chosen."

You may not like the teams he has chosen, or may have players you prefer more in your extremely limited knowledge (unless of course you attend every practice and camp and are in the dressing room.) Even at that you still have the problem that his results have been better than any the USMNT has ever seen.

How? Also, if they are better, why set the bar lower? If you truly feel confident with his work then you should have no trouble with insisting that he at least equal the results of the widely disparaged Bradley and Arena.
He's doing fine as a head coach but all the bootlicking and hypocrisy from some of his fans is nauseating.

LOL...not really boot licking to go to USSF and see the records we have broken and enjoy watching us try and dictate the game. I think the coach knows who is in the pool and what they bring the team. His results say he has been choosing wisely.

I will wait until the draw to comment on what I think our WC goals are/should be..

Klinsmann likes benchmarks so I thought I would provide some a priori for the USMNT Manager in advance of the World Cup draw on Friday so we all know where we stand going in, rather than hearing a plethora of ex post facto excuses over the week end, after the draw is common knowledge.

W/out further, my "no more tears" formula contains 3 groups.( I ignore the wrinkle about the 9th Uefa team going into pot 2 for simplicity's sake)

    Group A
1 seeded team Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argie, Uruguay, Colombia, Belgium, Switz
+ 1 of Bosnia, Greece, Croatia, Russia from pot 4
If we do not qualify out of this group: "Jurgen, you're fired."

    Group B
1 of Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium from pot 1
+ 1 of Holland, Portugal, Italy, France, England, from pot 4
if we qualify out of this group: "Jurgen, you are hired, with a raise"

    Group C
1 of Uruguay, Colombia, Switz from pot 1
+1 of Holland, Portugal, Italy, France, England, from pot 4
If we do not qualify out of this group: "Jurgen, it is not looking good"

In sum, Klinsi's benchmark is to get out of the Ger-Por-Ghana group in Brazil 14 , in which case I have a hard time seeing how he does not continue in the job he wants. I would be for a rehire, definitely.
