    Hi there,

I'm looking at a number of different whey proteins, but I really can't decide which to go for. There's myprotein.com, which is dirt cheap, and then there are ones such as muscle milk, or the standard holland and barret stuff.
    Has anyone got any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Hey Dan,

You mentioned holland and barrett, so you must be in the uk, right?

Well I'd say go for an organic protein powder, as these are healthier and don't have high levels of heavy metals like mercury, which lots of 'normal' protein powders contain.

Unfortunately you can only really get these in north america at the moment, but there is one in the UK called Organic Whey Protein and they are giving money to charity as well which seems nice. Problem is, they aren't selling yet.

On the other hand, there are lots of organic hemp proteins around already, but they don't taste so great.

First, as you probably know, isolate is the better stuff. That said, if you can find the brand Syntrax near you, try it. It's the isolate, and they offer fruit flavors. I've just bought two cannisters of the "Fuzzy Navel" flavor (peach/orange) that is amazing. Tastes like a regular sports drink. Got really tired of the same old vanilla and chocolate, but this stuff goes down like angel piss. Can I say that?

    I found it online for $24 a two-pound cannister.

When protein is very natural product and no artificial thing add,so no side effect generate in to use. When you want for protein supplements to build muscle, whey protein is the very best, it really is.

Large amount of protein intake is not good for health. That may affect you a several negative impact on the health. That's why take advice before taking this.

I highly recommend Optimum Nutrition's 100% Gold Standard Whey. In my opinion, the best whey in its price range. Universal has some good products. I currently felt like trying something new and bought ON's Oats and Whey and I am very pleased. The flavor is great and the combination of oats and whey has definitely helped me bulk a bit. Experiment, don't buy a 5 lb tub right off the bat. After you find a brand you like, switch every few months or so.

Hi there! I am a food consultant, and I wouldn't recommend whey protein isolate or any type of whey protein.
Whey is the by-product from cheese and milk production. I recommend reading this article about dairy:
    http://sporthealthtravel.blogspot.com/2013/09/is-milk-good-for-us.html

The American fixation with "extra protein" is really not based on science at all. Protein is no more important than the other macronutrients our bodies need. In fact, if you are a high-performance athlete, you will need a lot of carbohydrates to fuel your body, that's what your body runs on. When we eat excess protein, it isn't stored as protein, it is stored as fat. So you're not doing your body a favor by taking in extra protein than what the body can use. I hope that helps.

Syntha-6 isolate. Great tasting and has both whey and casein protein isolates.

Yeah I use half a scoop of the unflavoured MyProtien and half a scoop of the Precision Engineered Whey Protein from Holland and Barret, makes it cheaper and last longer. Especially if you time your re-ups for when they have the penny sale on!

Very true. Many people are showing that a high protein diet can cause early mortality.

Since running out of protein powder, I've replaced it with spinach, in a green
    smoothie. Pop Eye Style!!!

Brock Lesnar had 12 inches of colon removed, Too Much Meat.

But its also worth noting that carbohydrates is the only macro our bodies dont need. You need proteins and fats, if you dont eat carbohydrates your body can make whats its missing from lack of carbohydrate intake. Its just an interesting point.

This is the first question people need to answer/ask themselves. If you are looking to increase muscle size/mass it does work and I do recommend it.. Now "building muscle" falls on a spectrum. Are you just looking to add some marginal muscle, or supplement to help aid in another sport? or are you going more the bodybuilding/sculpting route?
Depending on your answer, this will change your intake and your requirements, and frequency of use.

From a bodybuilding perspective, the general rule is 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. (a lot). Since you can only digest a certain portion per sitting, (the rest gets passed though your system and not used ) you need to split up those intake sessions through out the day... o for example 175lb x 1.5 = 262 total grams per day/ 5 servings per day = 50g sitting (which is the upper end of what a person around that size can digest and use..)

This will give optimal results, but again isn't necessary to get results...... The issue is that this does over time put an additional load on your kidneys.. So yes year after year, doing this over the course of decades can possibly have side effects. But unless you are this hardcore with it, the sie effects are minimal.... So for most average people using protein powder its a non issue...

It depend on where you fall on the spectrum.

There are also some side effects of taking too much protein like kidney disease so please keep that in mind.

Plant-based protein supplements are usually the best, in my opinion. From what I've seen around, I'd recommend Dr. Schulze's SuperProtein and Markus Rothkranz's Super Plant Protein. However, they are pretty expensive because they contain a wide variety of plants.

Just been listening to paul saladino’s debunk of gamechangers with Ryan Lowery.
Says many vegan supplements have been found to ‘accidentally’ contain ‘SARM’s’ (selective androgen receptor modulators) which act like steroids and prevent muscle loss/help build muscle.
    ‘Accidentally contained’...

From what I have briefly read, they don’t contain the essential amino acids whey protein provides so to cover that you will have to buy and spend $$$$ on an extra supplement..
