I was wondering what the salary breakdowns were for the leagues in CONCACAF, particularly the MLS vs Liga MX. I understand that the Liga MX is a far more established league, being the dominant sports player in a land of a 120 million. For 2013, the MLS has a base salary around $35,000, a median salary of $75,000, an average salary of $142,000, and Robbie Keene is the highest paid player in the league making $4,000,000.
MLS has a salary cap, I believe it is a little shy of $3 million per team. With teams able to sign up to 3 Designated players per team, who only could about $350k or so (depending on the timing of the signing) against the salary cap. There are some other rules to get around it as well. And the cap number only includes the 20 highest players on the roster, not 21-30, many of whom are the 35k players. I could be a little out of date on those numbers, but they are in the ballpark.
This threads comes off as MLS fan boys trying to justify their leagues mediocrity and Mexican domination of the region. High Salaries help a lot but it isn't everything, unless this is UEFA. See South America; some of those clubs can't even pay their players yet they would still dominate all of MLS.

Don't see how its possible for me to be insecure and defensive when my league absolutely demolishes all of CONCACAF combined. Even more so when our 20 year old players that only make $260 a month outplay your "DPs".
True, the past 5 years the Paraguayan, Chilean, Uruguayan and Colombian leagues have better results than the Mexican league, so all of them would beat up on MLS. If it was totally about money Mexico should only be behind Brazil, but leagues with less money are ahead of Mexico and would be ahead of MLS
SMH. You are one of the stupidest more ignorant posters on BS so can't say I expected much from you. It's universally accepted that Liga MX is the 3rd best league in the Americas. Every South American NT except Brasil, Uruguay, and Venezuela have players that play in Liga MX. In CL 08 2 clubs reached the QF. In 2009 2 clubs made the round of 16 but were not allowed to participate further due to swine flu. In 2010 Chivas made the finals. In 2011 Jaguares made the QF. In 2012 Cruz Azul made the round of 16. The only league that have our # is Brasil and Argentina even though we have a overall winning record against their clubs since 2000 and possibly Uruguay. Paraguay has a good league but even their players admit that Liga MX is a lot tougher that their domestic league: Sorprende a Pablo Velázquez ritmo de Liga MX. Colombia obviously a good league but they have 4 NT players that play in Liga MX and 5 Domestic players. Chile's another good league but we've beaten them in finals, Copa Sudamericana 2006, and have advanced further than them over all in the last 5 years.
Yep your a stupid ass. How is it that in 2009 when Mexicans clubs were not allowed to compete yet they scored higher than in 2010 when Chivas reached the final. How is Chile even ahead if they haven't even reached a final in the last 5 years. In the last 5 we are tied with Chile in SF appearances beating them in one to get to the final. Another thing is that you seriously lack critical thinking skills. Aside from Football play there are several things that influence a CL, among the two biggest things are LUCK and OFFICIATING. How easily could Xolos made it the Semi's and potentially the final had they not missed the penalty. Not to mentions how Toluca convincingly out classed Boca Jr two times. American leagues are clearly superior to Liga MX yet lots of their NT would rather have players that play in Mexico than players from their own domestic league
That is really sad. I'd hate to guess how much players in USL or NASL make. MLS needs to get on their job and increase the minimum wage to at least $75,000 and start getting lots of sponsorships to multiple players outside DPs to balance their lack of high wages
Considering how huge football is in Mexico and how profitable the league is, I'd figure the top players would be on way more. Then again converting that amount to pesos might mean much much more to the players. I take it the players are still given cars, homes and sponsorships by their club? The top ones I mean
Salaries in Mexico might be even more than in Portugal, which is the 5th ranked league in Mexico. How's Scandinavian league salaries compare to MLS?
ceezmad, sometimes the best Mexican teams might not be able to participate in Copa Libertadores if they are already in CCL. The lesser teams would have to play in Copa Libertadores and that would affect the coefficients.
Yeah a million $ in Mexico goes way more than a million in the US or Europe. IIRC Cuauhtemoc Blanco said he used to make 100k a month when he was the highest paid player. Also I don't think there are any official numbers reported on LigaMX, those are just estimates.

I think one of the announcers during the GC made a reference to how much a player made in Cuba, but I can't remember what it was.

I bet a guy like Koevermans makes more in Toronto than he ever did in Holland. Cahill's and Keane's salaries seem very high, are they close to what they were making at their former clubs in the PL?
Sometimes for sure and I have stated that, but last year the 3 best teams (top 3 teams on the table, including the 2 finalists) for Apertura 2012 made the Libertadores and still did about the same as the prior few years.

Geez, no wonder almost no one posts here. The OP asks an honest question, I give an honest answer about MLS, and some Mexican douche comes in acting all bitchy and whinny. Look, everyone with a brain, and, apparently, even some without, know the Mexican league is the best in the region. The results in CCL speak for themselves. The gap is still present, but it is closing a bit. Like the CCL results, the salaries are what they are, they aren't meant to justify anything. Maybe he's just a little insecure about his national team, or possibly a bit of manstration going on?
