Here's their schedule for this season. They are going to play Rochester up at Edinboro. I thought that was interesting and wonder why they are doing that. Probably one of their bigger matches and not really playing at home. http://www.riverhounds.com/pro/schedule/index_E.html Home schedule 2011 Home Schedule Day Date Opponent Time Saturday April 23rd Harrisburg City Islanders 7:00PM Friday May 6th Charleston Battery 7:00PM Saturday May 21st FC New York 7:00PM Sunday May 22nd Los Angeles Blues 5:00PM Saturday May 28th Wilmington Hammerheads 7:00PM Friday June 17th* Rochester Rhinos 8:00PM Friday July 1st Orlando City 7:00PM Sunday July 3rd River Plate Puerto Rico 3:00PM Saturday July 9th FC New York 7:00PM Wednesday July 20th Dayton Dutch Lions 7:00PM Saturday July 30th Richmond Kickers 7:00PM Saturday August 6th Charlotte Eagles 7:00PM ALL HOME GAMES TO BE PLAYED AT CHARTIERS VALLEY STADIUM **JUNE 17TH GAME VS ROCHESTER RHINOS TO BE PLAYED AT EDINBORO UNIVERSITY**
They are playing in Edinboro because that is the weekend of PA West's Youth Open Cup (U12 to U18) up at Edinboro. It's a full weekend tournament at Edinboro University's fields which attracts thousands of parents, players, etc. to the area. If one tries to book a hotel this late in the game for that weekend anywhere as south of Edinboro as Meadville and as far north as Erie, it will be impossible. I believe they've done this Ediboro once or twice in the past few years. I don't know how many fans it draws, but smart to move it up there since much, but not all, of the Pittsburgh area soccer community that attends the games will be up at Edinboro.
Wigan Athletic confirm that the team will travel to the USA for the first time for a pre-season training camp next month. Owen Coyle’s men will now face MLS side Columbus Crew at the Crew Stadium on Saturday July 13 and 3rd Division side Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the Highmark Stadium on July 19. Coyle said: “The opportunity came up for us to go to the States and was too good for us to turn down. “The players will love the facilities over there which are first class and it is a great way for us to begin our pre-season preparation in readiness for August 3.” Read more at http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/13-06-21-usa-tour-confirmed-875552.aspx#yPy44PvyrWg4818b.99
Nice matchup, I wish Harrisburg hosted more of these. Wigan is an interesting opponent, FA Cup champions but relegated in 2013. The timing of the match is very odd, the Hounds host Orlando on Wednesday, Wigan on Friday, and Wilmington on Saturday? Let's hope they move a match because nobody wants the league to look bad with a fatigued or reserve lineup playing Wigan.
