I actually think that Jozy is worth about 8 million euros. I think 8 is way too much for Szalai. I don't see why people just disregards 31 goals as meaningless since he doesn't play in one of the top three or four league's. He scored these goals for a well regarded team in a league that has produced many top strikers.
Tell you what, I'd be fine paying 10 million euros if he came here as a squad player, made 10-20 starts, played 30-35 total matches, and scored 10+ goals in all competitions History is littered with guys that excelled at one level, but looked like crap at the next level. I'm almost certain that a club like PSV would pay more for Altidore than a team in the Bundesliga for this reason. German and Dutch clubs value players about the same, but PSV has that extra bit of comforting knowledge that Jozy's already experienced success in Holland.
Doost got 32 goals and De Jong got 25 goals last year in the Eredivise only managed 8 and 6 respectively in the Bundesliga this year. From this I project altidore to score 5 goals in the Bundesliga next season. Szalai scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga and was sold for 8 million euros therefore Altidore is worth 3 million euros.
Impressed you've reduced soccer scouting to a surefire mathematical formula. It is only a matter of time until you leverage millions from your secret.
Same here. I wouldn't say Jozy is worth 8. I'd wager he's more at 6. But that was once the season was over. His recent goals might have added a million to his price. So you are probably right. He scored and had a good number of assists. And he's adjusted to several leagues style of play. He's a vet at just 23. Been around the block.
Ever heard of Bjorn Vleminckx or Dmitry Bulykin? They scored 20+ goals in the Eredivisie a few seasons ago. Now, I think Jozy is a much better player and has more potential than either of those guys, but it just shows that there's been some really mediocre guys near the top of the scoring tables which is why it's understandable that top leagues have reservations about shelling out a lot of money on Eredivisie strikers.
I just scouted him in Football Manager 2013 and they estimated his price at 15-17M Euros. Foolproof science. I think some of you guys are tripping with your 4-6M Euro estimates. That hardly buys a bag of peanuts these days. Strikers are expensive. Stephen Fletcher, Daniel Sturridge, Andy Carroll, Olivier Giroud, Papis Cisse, and Loic Remy were all 10+ M Euros. Benteke was a "steal" at 7M pounds, which is still a lot of money. If a Prem team gets involved he will cost at least 8-10M Euros IMO. If he goes somewhere like Russia, France, or Portugal, it will probably be to a team with money. We're talking about maybe the best player on USMNT. Maybe the most talented American field player when it's all said and done. He's not going for Brek Shea money (no offense).
The lone time in his entire career that Bulykin scored so many came at the age of 30. Good grief, when does the cherry picking on past Eredivisie scorers end? No league below the top four in Europe, or the world for that matter, can even approach the level of success by Eredivisie products in those leagues. Not. Even. Close. We've been over this 412,368 times.
This is the original source, it has more details. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...riker-altidore-1-5787326#.UcQLfb-ZATk.twitter
6 epl teams huh? I don't buy it but ill speculate: Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham, Tottenham.
They won't get him. Well, they better not. But EPL clubs going after him does drive up the price as others have mentioned.
Not to knock on Jozy Altidore but can you name one FW who succeeded outside of Eredivisie that isn't from Fyenoord, Ajax, or PSV?? The great FWs from Eredivisie are basically from those 3 teams...
This is what we were talking about. In Germany, a solidly average to slightly above average starter is worth about 5 million euros. Maybe you tack on an extra million for an attacking player. Teams won't pay 8 figure transfer fees unless they're buying one of the top 20 attacking players in the league. Italy and Spain are very similar. These countries develop so much talent that the high supply drives prices down. Teams in these leagues won't pay 12 million for Jozy because they can buy a 20 year old from the second division who's 95% the player that Jozy is for 3-4 million.
