Would be a good time to get this thread off the ground. So WC 2018, who are the players Under 26 that could make this squad?

Unfortunately there is not much regular info on our young players. But looking at our youth programs and some young pros, these stand out to me:

MF, Samuel Piette (U20, U23, Senior, Fortuna Dusseldorf)
DF, Luca Gasparotto (U17, Rangers FC)
    FW, Lucas Cavallini (U20, U23, Senior, Nacional/Juventud)
    DF, Ashtone Morgan (Senior, TFC)
MF, Alessandro Riggi (U20, Celta de Vigo)
MF, Michael Petrasso (U20, Queens Park Rangers)
MF, Dylan Carreiro (U20, Queens Park Rangers)
DF, Joseph Di Chiara (U23, Kecskemeti TE)
DF/MF, Russell Teibert (U23, Senior, Whitecaps)
    GK, Quillan Roberts (U20, TFC)
DF, Tyler Pasher (U20, TFC Academy)
    FW, Caleb Clarke (U20, Whitecaps)
MF, Bryce Alderson (U20, U23, Whitecaps)
GK, Michal Misiewicz (U23, FC Edmonton)
DF, Doneil Henry (U20, U23, Senior, TFC)
DF, Andres Fresenga (U23, Racing Club)
DF, Nikola Paunic (U20, TFC Academy)
MF, Kyle Bekker (U23, Boston College)

I tried to put these in order of importance? Considered a couple others, but ultimately had reasons not to list more. Scarce FW options still the concern, but ultimately I think there's cause for some optimism.

Any thoughts on Karl Ouimette? I notice he wasn't on your list.

First Academy player to join the Impact, captain of their U21 team since 2011. Over 6200 minutes played with the Imapct Academy. Hasn't had much of a chance to play in MLS though.

i'm in the dark about him and have never seen him play, do you rate him highly?

i also recall being impressed with Philippe Davies during Olympic Qualifying, at which time he was unattached. he's since joined Richmond Kickers but it's difficult to suggest an upside to an almost 22-year-old in USL Pro. though i wouldn't put it past him to improve his club situation and represent Canada at some point.

Nah, that's why I asked if you had any thoughts. He's played with the Impact this season for 66 minutes, and that's about the only exposure to him that I've had. 66 minutes is not nearly enough time for me to form a reasonable opinion, and unfortunately I have never seen any of the Impact's U21 or U16 games. He seems to receive much praise, but aside from that I'm in the dark about him as well.

Great to see some of Canada youth be a top 20 picks in Bekker/Welshman whom are both with TFC. I hope they have an instant impact to the squad and play from the get go of the new MLS season.

Not only are they getting a chance at TFC... but national call-ups and a pile of playtime this past week for Bekker. And he looked good. This young guy has a a future with Canada. It will be exciting to watch. He's making me want to follow TFC more than I ever have before. :cautious:

Yes he is a player to watch and so is Emery Welshman seems like he got fighting spirit. Both I can see them working hard for years to come. I'm hoping that our young gunz who played these past two friendlies against Denmark, and US can get signed by teams in MLS mainly the Canadian MLS teams.

CSA announced the roster for the U-20 team last week:

    http://www.wakingthered.com/2013/2/...urnament-squad-for-concacaf-u20-championships

    4 from the Whitecap Academy
    3 from the Impact Academy
    1 from TFC
    1 from Edmonton Academy

Other than those another local Impact Academy prospect who was not called to the U-20 team played surprisingly well in the pre-season game vs Sporting Kansas City yesterday.

Maxim Tissot assisted on Andrew Wenger's goal in the second half

Video of the whole game here for those interested:

Tissot's assist was in the 61' minute

Jordan Hamilton has been a monster at U17. Other noticeable players include Bustos, Boakai, Haynes...will have to keep an eye on these guys. great job whole squad for the bronze and WC qualification.

Yes he has been and proud to see the U17 do well in the tourney. The future is looking good for Canada for its next WCQ quest.

The players we've come up with ever since the so-called "golden generation" just haven't been good enough. But there's hope with the youngsters. Aleman, Osorio, Piette, Teibert (also Morgan if he gets back on track) won't take us to the world up in 2018 but with a better supporting cast in 2022 we might have a chance again

I've always said he could be Canada's Ronaldo. As ignorant a comment as that is. His talent, flair and potential is beyond anything I've seen in my lifetime. He's also starting to show a bit more of his personality now with those haircuts. Shame he isn't on twitter/instagram.

Teibert, Bekker, Osorio, Porter, and Aleman I hope can put these three games behind them and push on with their growth in the game. At least Canada has some glimmer of hope with its future foundation although at the moments its very weak foundation. Let see what the future holds for Canada and its young gunz.
