Stars sign Bryan Arguez for 2013 seasons. They lost Hlavty to FC Edmonton. I think Bryan is a better player so they come out ahead on this one.
Stars are set to sign reigning NASL MVP Pablo Campos. http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/01/minnesota-signs-nasl-mvp-campos.html
Boom. http://www.startribune.com/sports/187986431.html?refer=y "I say, boom." grins That little old jersey collector Me
Great news for Stars... I really hope that we see this team in MLS within the next five to seven years!
Aftershock. The Stars add Aaron Pitchkolan and retain Simone Bracalello. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22429953/stars-sign-past-two-nasl-mvps "The Double, perhaps?" widely grins That little old jersey collector Me
With Manny at the helm, and an owner willing and able to give him what he wants, I am totally letting myself daydream about winning The Double.
Wow those are 3 very impressive signings. That shows a lot of commitment to put a really good product on the field. Does anyone know if they have expanded their front office at all and maybe hired some folks to sell tickets?
What is the Double? Shouldn't it be the Triple? Spring-Fall-Soccer Bowl? I am not sure about the three years deals. Especially for older players who aren't going to play D1 again. Three years deals at this level seem counter productive. It could come back to haunt you if McGuire sours on being a minor league soccer owner.
Maybe they are option years, plus at NASL level they are competing vs. some Central American leagues, also it may be easier to sell them on (if they were younger) to Scandinavian leagues if there is any interest if they are signed to longer deals. But yes if dude gets sick of being an NASL owner before a few years I assume the Stars may fold anyways so the players would be AOL. Then again maybe the league would take them over again (well traffic) and send their best players to other teams, (I guess it would be the same if say Red Bull got sick of paying for DP players and getting no titles).
I'll start with Bob and work my way down... No official word about front office expansion except the owner's son-in-law (lawyer) to work in some capacity, and that the club is in the process of hiring their own video crew. Also some vague tweets and things saying more news on player and FO additions coming "soon". My guess is yes. The Double is Cups! The NASL Championship Cup and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Three year deals are good strategies for just these kind of players. Proven goalscorers in this league, but too old for MLS to take a gamble on after disappionting stints there earlier. This should keep other league teams from poaching them and insure a bit of compensation if wanted by overseas teams. No indications that Dr. McGuire will get tired of team. Local owner with deep pockets pretty much retired from business world except as an investor and philanthropist. The earliest the club will have to reassess their future is when or if the owners of the Minnesota Vikings, the Wilf family, decide to excercise their option with the state (owners of the new Vikings Stadium), to put an MLS team in that new stadium, currently scheduled for 2016 completion. When or if that time comes, There are options. The Wilfs could buy the Stars and install them as the MLS franchise (preliminary talks have occured with no commitments on either side), or the Stars could continue to compete, either on their current level or drop a level or two or they could just fold. The latter seems the least likely at this point. The chance that the league would retake control of the Stars is about nil. One of the main reasons they kept the team alive in the first place was to meet USSSF standards for minimum amount of teams in the league (eight) to qualify for Division II status. With as many as 13 other teams committed for the 2014 season, that reason no longer exists. The contracts, if past Stars contracts are an indication, probably contain an option year or years, with possible buyout clauses for the players if they want to move on. Don't know about these specifically, however. "Hope that clears things up" says That little old jersey collector Me
Stars hold a press conference tomorrow (3/5) to announce some goals...this is when I wish BQ was back from his hiatus to give us all the scoop on the team. I even checked IMS just to see if anything had been posted...no luck .
His IMS twitter account is still alive and well and updated regularly: https://twitter.com/IMSoccerNews
The waiting has been killing me all day. I'm on pins and needles here. #pleasenotMinnesotaUnited #pleasenotMinnesotaUnited
I'm right there with you. I feel like after 3 years of struggling to get rid of the awful branding NSC were able to come up with, we finally hit our stride with the new crest. But I also can't blame Dr. Bill for wanting to put his own touch on the brand (no matter how little he might have paid for it up front). He's the guy who cuts the checks, and apparently the team is up to about 60 staffers right now. So I may not be super happy (?), but you've gotta give the guy props.
Sorry, it's Minnesota United FC. The IMS twitter page has plenty of info. https://twitter.com/IMSoccerNews
I am actually loving the logo and the kits. Like, loving loving. They have eased the pain of the Stars' death
Started a new thread for more in depth discussion on the new team name/logo/jerseys, if people want to leave this one for news. If not, whatevs. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...et-minnesota-united-fc.1983646/#post-27351523
Dead? Says who? I don't consider renaming a "death". Neither should you. The Dark Clouds I'm sure will still follow.
The Stars are as dead as the Thunder. It's just the facts. But no matter what the name, the Dark Clouds will always follow (Limited edition Dark Clouds supporter scarf, censored for the faint of heart)
