Tucson has the support. From the fans to the county, we're a step above Phoenix. Can't wait till we join USL-Pro in 2015.
Usually not. Scrimmages, friendlies, and whatnot are not usually counted as part of your record, though of course, the fans will remember them for a long time. This is why teams have "home" and "away" jerseys. There are a lot of clubs in MLS that wear blue, ten or fifteen years ago, a lot of MLS teams wore red. Go figure. In any case, good luck Phoenix Wolves, and also, good luck to FC Tucson. - Mark
Don't get too far ahead of yourselves. Wolves have yet to play a meaningful match. Give them a year or two to build a following, then get back to us on your vast support. Not trying to be mean here, but consider that when both clubs were in USL-D1, the Portland Timbers drew nearly twice as many fans as the Seattle Flounders. When the Flounders joined MLS, they became the toast of the town, and now have legions of fans. (Who are mostly obnoxious, ignorant, arrogant, tools. IMHO.) Just a cautionary tale, my friend. And this is the Phoenix forum, so no trolling. - Mark
I tell my friend from Seattle that the Sounders have been around since the 90's, but they've only been drawing huge crowds since they made the jump to MLS. Her response is that it is because of the void left behind when the SuperSonics left. It's a valid point, but I don't think Sonics fans were as obnoxious as some Sounders' fans are.
In a roundabout way this concerns me, we have NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL already here. The sports entertainment dollar is already so thin. So many options for the consumer, a third division soccer club has no "voids" to fill aside from soccer fans. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Tucson has a similar void left from the evacuation of MLB spring training teams, not only does that free up casual sports fans, but also gets support from the city.
Partly, it's that the timing of the Sonics leaving was perfect for the flounders, and also, the new owner of the flounders are big deals in Seattle, thus, the media, who had previously hated the Flounders, became fawning, boot-licking toadies overnight. So the team has a bazillion fans, but most of them don't know squat about soccer. Bunch of pathetic posers, really. Even should NBA return to Seattle, it's not likely that they will drain away tons of Flounder fans. Oh, and Seattle is a terrible city to drive in, and it's way over priced. Still, it's a fun place to visit. Just don't drive there. (I take the train to get there and get around on foot or public transit. Much more relaxed that way.) - Mark
By "here," you mean Tampa Bay, right? You've got the NASL Rowdies in St. Petersburg and now USLPro VSI in, or just east of, Tampa, yes? Not being a local, I don't get why St. Petersburg is not a great location for a team, but I've heard that said by locals. Also, with 2.8M people, you ought to have enough fans to support an NASL and USLPro side. On the downside, it's going to be hard to get any media love. Good luck. - Mark
Oh crap! Sorry. Forgot what forum I was in for a moment. That's what I get for posting from work. So, a crowded market still. Not good for a lower division team getting attention. Good luck. - Mark
There is still a month until games start. I'm guessing they will be mailed out shortly before they have to be. I've been a little surprised that I haven't heard anything from the team since I bought my tickets, unless you count the confirmation e-mail.
There's a rumor going around the merchandise will be for sale on the website next week. Ah, when else would it be? I know a few people are interested in PFC swag so keep your eyes peeled on the website. Hopefully this "next week" becomes a reality.
I had heard this, but did you notice that the Thursday, July 11 match against Antigua is no longer listed as being played at ASU?
That's interesting. Do you have any insight into why it is being moved and where it is being moved to (that you can share publicly), Kenn (or anyone else for that matter)?
No idea, other than it appears SDSS will be unavailable on that particular evening. Where that game ends up, no idea. Flagstaff? Prescott? Camp Tontozona? No clue.
No. Antigua has no home games this year. Not a typo. Every USL Pro team except Antigua has 14 home games and 12 road games this year. This game is and has always been a Phoenix home game.
Turns out, I was on the right track. Technically, said fixture date is a home game for Antigua. As such it can not be played at ASU. They are searching for a neutral location for the match.
