Yeah Chalobah deserved it by quite a margin. Also not forgetting:

    Will Hughes (Second place)
    John Lundstram (Third place)

Not sure. Even more unsure now that Henderson has won the U21 award.

Been absolutely awful in quite alot of U21 games. At least he's been doing better recently at club level.

The England coaches was behind the youth award,
which is why it seem so correct.

England player of the Year and U21 however were voted by on their website.
    Winner: Steven Gerrard
U21: Jordan Henderson. Runner up: Martin Kelly
As you know there are a few Liverpool fans out there ..

Btw, just realized Powell is in neither squad. Has played 2 games with the United U21's now and went with the team to Qatar, so should be fit after his injury ?

Happens quite alot with Pearce and Blake. Pearce was in my view over promoting Powell and has now dropped him. Blake then looks at other players. He'll probably be in the U19 squad for the elite qualifiers.

Tbf, there wasn't a lot of competition. Even less when Henderson is called up to the mains.

Shelvey will never really be anything other than a mediocre player and the rest are from the same age group.

I don't agree about competition. Pearce even picked about 5 similar players in the squad and ignored players that have played regularly at a higher level than Powell. Pointless when he could start at U19 level. Was never going to get enough first team playing time either to warrant the step up.

3-0 at HT Ince with two and Shelvery with one.

Nick Powell needs to show a lot more to get in the U21s. Seen nothing in his career to date to indicate he will be better than Shelvey. Not that Shelvey will amount to much.

One of the better displays. Why put Will Hughes on the left though? Did the same with other smaller players in the past. Should have given Chalobah more time too.

To be fair terrible pitch which didn't suit Sweden's style of play and was always going to suit Pearce's tactics more. Some good young players though, just hope they get the right club moves if they're not already in the Prem.

    haha what a tool.
I guess no one told him the under 21 team was just the stepping stone to the full team. Its not about making Pearce look good with players who have already been promoted. I bet if he ever played in the under 21's again he would get played on the wing like before.

Silly thing is we've got options that need these games to help push them on. Pearce just thinks a trophy at this level is all that matters. Trying to make out like he's some sort of victim is beyond parody.

That is probably one of the worst rants i've heard Pearce go on for a long time. This really does need to be his last campaign. I know it's Pearce, but still this is quite shocking to hear him saying these things when it sounds like he has showdown talks in the summer.

I think he probably assumes he needs a trophy to ever have a chance at getting another job. So he is pushing for big names to be involved. If they arent involved ,he already has his excuse written down.

He will be like this until he's gone. His argument is the same but even in the last campaign he never asked for Walcott to go or Rooney when he was eligible

At the last tournament he kept saying - 'People will say what have I won until I win a trophy with the U21's.' Whatever his true motives the logic is pathetic. The seniors priorities can't be second choice just to win an U21 tournament.

His quotes are all about his own interests ,rather than building for the future. Playing in that tournie will do jack shit for Wilshere . He will be better off acclimatising in Brazil than playing some shitty unbalanced 4-5-1 long ball system with Pearce .

It really annoys me that Pearce keeps citing the Spanish and the French taking their strongest, as that is not the whole story at all. Spain have such a strong senior setup it's been hard for a few years any U21 eligible player to break in, the likes of Mata and Thiago only played because they were struggling to even get in the senior squad. Also France's U21 team has been pretty poor for a few years and they've had more depth in the 25+ age group.

The biggest problem for us by a mile is injury and burnout. Last thing we need is for players who play regularly in the Premiership and have senior caps to get worn down. No way should Wilshere go to this, also Sterling is one who should be left out as well. The likes of Chamberlain, I'd say fair enough as he's not a regular 90 minute player at club level or for the seniors. Although I can understand Hodgson being reluctant to let Pearce misuse him and damage his confidence.
